Upon seeing the burning island, Liu Xing could not help but slow his flying turtle. His entire reason for heading to that island had been to drop off the group of women behind him. Since the island was now burning, there was no way he would leave them there.
As he gazed into the distance and the smoking island came into clearer view, he needed to decide what to do. Should he steer clear of the problem, or observe a bit more? Logic dictated avoiding the island and finding another to leave the women. He was still in a hurry, after all. But the thought of leaving the smoking island without doing anything made his stomach churn. There was a high possibility that the smoke and fire were caused by the rampaging Nether Lotus Sect. The island was likely filled with people, and a bitter taste formed on his tongue at the thought of ignoring them.
His logical side bombarded him with how easy his life would be if he ignored the fires. It reminded him that he could not return to the sect if he failed to retrieve the Heaven Severing Pill, and then he would be at the mercy of the elder who had thrown a mountain at him. The other side, however, remained silent, not because it lacked reasons to persuade Liu Xing but because it did not need to.
After all, it knew it had already won.
Liu Xing inhaled deeply. He could not help himself. True, it would have been easier to ignore what was happening in the Wild Tide Region. Yet, he could not do that. It went against his moral compass. He would not feel at ease if he saw something like this and did nothing.
"I'm already a legend in the Twelve Sun Empire," he muttered, "might as well become one here too."
This did not mean he would go recklessly. A battle was probably happening on that island, and he needed a plan that optimized his chances of victory, minimized the risk of loss, and was also efficient, effective, and safe for the group of women he guarded.
As Liu Xing considered how to achieve all this, he summoned his gun from his consciousness. It instantly materialized in his left hand. When he grasped the handle of the black gun, his left hand suddenly felt just right, as if it were incomplete without the weapon. Yet, he knew he needed to shed this subconscious feeling. After all, he had just conceived a new battle style, and it seems the heavens seemed eager to give him an opportunity to try it.
He willed his stone blade and the Tide Walker to return, and then slowed his flying turtle a little more, giving himself time to calm his mind and think thoroughly. The group of women also saw the burning island, but instead of chattering and asking him questions, they sat silently—a decision for which Liu Xing was grateful. He needed full concentration.
Soon, the stone blade and Tide Walker returned, both hovering before him. The Tide Walker looked at him with an intense gaze, its mouth curved into a ferocious smile, as if conveying it was a beast ready to be unleashed upon his enemies, while the stone blade hovered silently but seemed to emanate the same eagerness to cut down his foes.
Liu Xing inhaled deeply. First things first, he needed to ensure all his weapons were in optimal condition. By that, he meant infusing them with the potent qi from his gun.
Liu Xing sent qi to his gun. The gun absorbed it greedily and converted it into six bullets. He absorbed these six bullets into his Ethereal Pearl that was still inside his stomach. He repeated this process hundreds of times, trying to accumulate as much potent qi as possible in a short period. The entire process took only several minutes, but even that seemed too long.
Then, he split this qi into four parts.
The first part he sent to the Tide Walker. When the torrent of qi crashed into it, its small eyes widened comically, as if a beggar had suddenly been showered with money. But after the confusion receded, the Tide Walker smiled ferociously, trying to devour all the qi. Liu Xing allowed the shark some of it, but he willed the rest to suffuse the creature, making it glow with a silver light. Feeling the power radiating from the Tide Walker, even Liu Xing could not help but feel this little shark was now fearsome and strong.
The second part he gave to the stone blade in a similar fashion, making it glow with a purple light and grow heavier. When he judged the stone blade's heaviness sufficient, he let the remaining potent qi encase it.
The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.
The third part was a reserve he stored inside the Ethereal Pearl, while the fourth part encased the gun he still held. If he released the gun, it would float, but before he could do that, there was something else he needed to do.
Previously, he had not been able to experiment with his Eyes of Lightning using his gun, but now, he needed to do so.
With a pang of regret, he destroyed the three lightning orbs that hovered atop the stone blade and Tide Walker. They turned into blue sparks akin to small fireworks, and the mental backlash from destroying his three new eyes made him winced for a moment.
Liu Xing began to cycle qi to activate Eye of Lightning. Then, he willed the gun to absorb the technique, converting it into six bullets inside its chamber. When the technique successfully converted into bullets, he could feel a heavy presence radiating from them. They felt much stronger than Exploding Fist bullets.
He was curious what would happen if he shot them. Would they explode? Would they paralyze the enemy? Or would something else occur? But, though curious, he swallowed his curiosity, reabsorbed the bullets into his body, and activated the Eye of Lightning technique. Instantly, a small orb of lightning, merely the size of a grain of rice, hovered atop his right hand.
Upon seeing this newly enhanced Eye of Lightning, his heart beat faster, and excitement coursed through his body. This Eye of Lightning was so small that if one was not actively looking for it, it would be hard to see. Liu Xing willed the small orb to move to the side, and it reacted so fast it looked as if it had teleported. He was also quite sure that this little orb was more durable and possessed many other benefits that he still didn't know.
He was quite satisfied with the upgraded Eye of Lighting, although one slightly disappointing aspect of this new Eye of Lightning was that its vision had not been upgraded. He had thought this new eye would have no blind spot, but while it widened a little, the vision was clearly not all-encompassing, which was fine. Because there was one upgrade that made up for it which was the mental strain of having the new eye was light, so light that he barely felt it.
He created the second and third Eyes of Lightning, both the size of a grain of rice. They both shone faintly but were otherwise quite hard to notice. Previously, three eyes had been his limit. But now, while there was certainly some pain, he could still add more eyes.
With excitement filling his heart, he created one more lightning orb. When it had been successfully made, it floated with the other three eyes in the air. Liu Xing ordered each eye to face a different direction: one left, one right, one up, and one down. Combined with his two normal eyes, he currently had six eyes, and the feeling of seeing everything around him without even moving his neck was quite intoxicating, as if he had suddenly become omniscient of his surroundings.
Better yet, he felt he had still not reached his limit; he could still make several more Eyes of Lightning. For a moment, he intended to do just that, but before he could create a fifth eye, a sudden memory came to him, and he looked toward a woman in the middle of the group, the one who had told him the story of the greedy merchant.
Suddenly, he felt as if he had been doused by a bucket of cold water.
"It's enough, for now," he muttered.
With all this excitement, he had almost forgotten why he had recreated his Eyes of Lightning. It was not to increase his number of eyes. Rather, he needed all these eyes for the fight that would occur, and four additional eyes were enough.
Inhaling deeply and reining in his emotion, he gazed toward the distant island. It became closer and closer. The dark smoke billowing atop it was wide and encompassing, as if it were not merely black smoke but a giant cloud trying to plunge the island into darkness, while the fire raging below tried to make the smoke grow bigger and swallow the whole island.
Liu Xing let go of his gun and made it float. Compared to the stone blade and Tide Walker, which emanated power, his gun looked and felt the weakest. Yet, he knew this was not true. The reason his stone blade and Tide Walker emanated power was because of this gun. He could easily say that while the Tide Walker and his stone blade were valuable treasures, they were nothing compared to his gun.
"Alright, the three of you," he addressed the three floating weapons before him. Each was accompanied by a single Eye of Lightning. He felt a little silly talking to his weapons, but for this specific fight, he needed to stay and protect the group of women behind him, and so, it felt as if he were a commander ordering his soldiers to march onto a battlefield.
He inhaled deeply, trying to choose fitting words for the occasion. He felt even sillier trying to come up with words to encourage weapons, yet, in the end, he let out a ferocious smile and uttered a simple order.
"Go, decimate my enemy."
As he said that, the qi all around him suddenly moved, as if responding to his words.
Liu Xing raised his eyebrows. His words were not special. He had not laced them with qi nor imbued them with strong intent. He had just said them because it felt right, and it seemed the qi around him—which was not his own—responded. He did not notice that a patch of qi formed a small butterfly for a moment behind him before it dissolved again into normal qi.
Liu Xing shrugged, finding this phenomenon weird but not important. Instead, he looked toward the distant island, inhaled deeply, and steeled himself.
"Go," he ordered.
His three weapons began to move.
