Hallow London [Apocalyptic Urban Fantasy]

A Reminder And a Poll

Just in case you missed the author's note at the end of the first book, the bonus chapter that would normally be slotted in for today is being postponed to give me time to build up more backlog for Book 2. So, rather than leave everyone hanging for today, I thought it would be fun if I floated some ideas for future books that I might put into the pipeline and get everyone's opinion on which ideas they like the most.

Keep in mind, these likely won't be in any readable state for a good while. This is more of an exercise to see what new work people might be interested in viewing now that this story is more or less in a visibility holding pattern. Don't worry, this doesn't mean I'll be reducing the upload schedule of Hallow London, either. The Tues/Thu/Sat uploads it currently has will remain consistent, barring any unforeseen IRL hangups.

Starting us off, we have the big 2 genres that draw attention to this site: LitRPG and xianxia. A lot of people here know 'em, love 'em, and will generally keep a few of these in rotation on their reading lists. Generally, I'd consider this the 'safe' option if I was looking at things from a pure catalog perspective. But, at the same time... I have a few ideas of which directions I could take each of these in to keep things interesting.

I have one really vivid idea along this vein right now, where an automotive mechanic turned street racer gets into a racing accident that sends both him and the lemon of a car he'd been saddled with to a land of cultivators, monstrous beasts and heaven-defying immortals. Right now, I imagine a scene where an old, rickety stock car is barreling down a lush mountain pass while a bunch of outer disciples chase after, doing Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon-style acrobatics all the way. This character would probably be some sort of wanderer rather than trying to settle down somewhere, but then again this is just the initial broad strokes.

Another idea I've had recently is about doing something I'd describe as a reverse cyberpunk. Instead of starting as normal humans and adding chrome bits and bobs to the person as the story progresses, instead they'd be loaded to the gills with cyberware and looking for a way to restore their humanity. This one would have a much heavier emphasis on the base-building side of things, because before you can regrow an arm, you'd need not just the know-how to make it happen, but also the industrial base to make the parts that make the parts, and some supply of organic chemicals that aren't polluted with heavy metals, microplastics and other fun poisons. They'd basically be required to rebuild their body from the ground up, in this setting.

Lastly, I've considered looking into making some sort of classic fantasy setting, as well. This is by far the least baked option of the three, but I'd make seafaring a very important aspect to it. Something along the lines of the discovery of a new continent, with untold riches as well as untold dangers. Suggestions on this one are welcome.

So, that's a couple of the what-if ideas I've had floating around. Take some time to let me know which option you like the best in the poll below, and if you have an idea of your own you think I could pull of, don't hesitate to pitch it in the comments. And, who knows, maybe these ideas give you a direction of your own to try a hand at writing!
