How Did I Become an F1 Driver?

Chapter 168: The Slacking Duo

After hearing Qin Miao's reply, Brother Tou said a slang phrase from their hometown that Qin Miao couldn't understand. However, based on Brother Tou's explanation, the meaning of the phrase was roughly similar to the saying in China: "New generations bring forth new talents, each leading the way for hundreds of years."

Afterward, the two began chatting again about some small techniques in defense.

Qin Miao had a lot of solid information on defense. Listening to Qin Miao's analysis of some situations and the solutions she proposed, Brother Tou couldn't hide the surprise on his face.

It must be understood that defense is an experiential skill. The more races you experience, the more attacks and defenses you partake in, the more insights you have, and the ability naturally strengthens.

But Brother Tou could hardly imagine that the young driver in front of him, not yet twenty, had such an in-depth accomplishment in defense.

It's not even an exaggeration to say that Brother Tou felt if he and Qin Miao were driving last week's Mercedes in Bahrain, he wouldn't be able to withstand Verstappen's attack.

An experienced driver and a young person whose defense skills are maxed out have plenty to talk about on this topic. Before long, the conversation between them became increasingly heated.

...

The pre-race meeting by the FIA began in a conference room, arranged somewhat like the classrooms during school. There weren't many tables and chairs, just about twenty sets, perfectly enough for each driver to get a set.

As more drivers arrived, Qin Miao and Brother Tou stopped their discussion, instead shifting their focus to the drivers who had just arrived.

About a minute after all the twenty drivers had arrived, FIA Chairman Jean Todt appeared at the doorway of the conference room.

The Frenchman bowed slightly to the drivers in apology as he briskly walked towards the lectern position and began to host the drivers' meeting.

Before coming, Barber had told Qin Miao that if he really wasn't interested in paddock politics, during the drivers' meeting it was best to play dumb, avoid expressing any opinions, and avoid any untimely actions. Ideally, he should plug his ears and act like a wooden person.

During voting, it was safest to always vote abstain, clearly showing his stance of not wanting to get involved.

Qin Miao did exactly as instructed, and he and Brother Tou chose seats at the fringe of the room, so once the meeting started, Qin Miao plugged in his headphones and began listening to a novel he had recently been enjoying.

Brother Tou saw Qin Miao's actions and shook his head with a click of his tongue.

This young man Qin Miao truly has talent, but whether it was from paddock rumors or from the recent brief interaction with Qin Miao, Brother Tou could feel the innate laziness and go-with-the-flow attitude in Qin Miao.

This terrifying talent paired with Qin Miao's personality was truly a waste.

Although foreign cultures may not be as profound as those in China, Brother Tou also knew that speaking deeply in shallow relationships was taboo, so he simply sighed with regret.

The hat-wearing Qin Miao, intentionally pulling down the brim to lower his presence, naturally didn't notice the look in Brother Tou's eyes as he glanced at him.

However, while slacking off, Qin Miao found another guy among the crowd doing exactly the same.

If Qin Miao slackened in a somewhat restrained manner, with his headphones being a rather small in-ear style, and he only wore it in one ear.

Then this guy was blatantly slacking off, directly wearing a conspicuous Sony over-ear wireless headphone and lowering his head to play on his phone.

This audacious man whom Qin Miao admired was the Ice Man, Kimi Raikkonen.

At this moment, Kimi seemed to sense the gaze of a fellow slacker, withdrew his gaze from his phone, and looked over at Qin Miao.

After which, the two slackers exchanged a glance, then continued slacking off.

...

The drivers' meeting ended with the psychic connections of slacking off between Qin Miao and Kimi, and afterward, Qin Miao joined Hamilton to return to the Mercedes' team headquarters.

The team headquarters at Imola had been assembled even before Qin Miao arrived in Italy. By now the odor had almost dispersed, so moving in certainly posed no problem.

After placing his belongings in the resting room, once all of the crew members' staff arrived, Qin Miao began another task for the day with them: the track walk.

Originally, Qin Miao didn't mind bringing Zhou Guanyu along for the track walk. After all, Zhou Guanyu was still in F2, and Qin Miao certainly hoped his good friend would become stronger; the stronger Zhou Guanyu's skills were, the greater the possibility of him entering F1.

Unfortunately, the Saint Marino Imola Circuit was not in the F2 race calendar.

Moreover, Zhou Guanyu also had his own work to complete, so this time Qin Miao was alone for the track walk with his team members, along with Boss Zhou and his wife Qimeng.

The number of people wasn't too many, just about ten in total.

Even though Qin Miao had almost practiced this track to a proficiency of 1500 on the team's simulator, this track still hadn't truly appeared in an F2 race, and it was Qin Miao's first time here. So, Qin Miao spent an extra hour to walk an additional lap, and his notebook was almost filled with seven or eight pages, with plenty of new photos on his phone.

All these things were materials for Qin Miao's study and adjustment upon returning to the garage.

The Imola Circuit is located in northern Italy, within Italy's borders.
