Paleview City, Outside the shelter Zones, two figures could be seen on the top of a high rise building, the first figure had distinct yellow hair and gleaming blue eyes, he donned a white exosuit with two blue hilted twin swords behind him, beside him was an otherworldly silver haired woman in a coat, that flapped furiously in the wind.
It was Derek and Yvalna. Derek was looking through a pair of binoculars.
" That's so many of them " he sighed and put them away. Behind him, the wall that was being built to surround the shelters was one third near completion, and with the builder bot and drones assistance, the Mana Greenhouse had already been constructed, the Power plant was still underway, and in a few days, energy would be running in no time.
His comm device buzzed, prompting Derek.
" Sir, this is the latest update from the Awakening Division, A total of Three Hundred and Forty Awakeners have been recorded, Seven of them were natural awakeners and the rest were half awakened and needed the help of mana stones, 20 of them upon evaluation psssess a higher talent then the rest, 208 possess mid talent and the rest possess lower grade talent " General Miles' voice came from the other end.
Apart from being checked out because a famous General he was used to seeing on TV just called him 'sir', hequickly came into terms with it, for a General like Miles who had seen so many battles, he could quickly come into terms with how important strength was necessary in the apocalypse, and he would respect those who had it, especially if they were fighting on his side.
But what he was astounded by was the fact that there were more than three hndrded people who had joined the Awakening Division, he had estimated that the numbers would be less than 200 hundred, but he had underestimated the people's resolve too court death...or rather their resolve to no longer be passive...in the apocalypse being weak was a sin, and these had come to quickly understand, of course there were those who also wanted to take revenge for their lost ones.
All in all, the numbers were very high, but this also left him with a head ache, the equipment were insufficient. His expression darkened as he processed the implications.
"Only a handful of proper combat suits left," Derek muttered. "And mana weapons? Don't even get me started."
Yvalna, standing beside him with her hair whipping in the wind like a rebellious flag, spoke without looking at him. "You'll have to start prioritizing who gets what. The high-talent ones first, of course."
"That's what logic says," Derek replied, "but you know how people are. Give someone a wooden stick while the guy next to him gets a mana-infused blade and suddenly there's talk of favoritism, betrayal, and civil war."
Yvalna smiled faintly. "Welcome to leadership."
Derek exhaled, rubbing his temple. The shelter zones were slowly stabilizing, but Paleview City was still a powder keg waiting for one good spark. The monsters were too many to count, in the distance they looked like a slow surging sea tide.
" Right...I have an idea, we will set up a contribution points system were every beast killed by the newly awakened soldiers will be recorded " Derek said with an excited expression.
Yvalna looked at Derek with an awed expression as she had not expected that from him at all. She understood the implications of this idea, first of all it would take a lot of jealousy away, because awarding equipment to the soldiers over some talent the could not be seen with naked eyes was too superficial, but with the Contribution Point system…there would be proof—raw, bloody proof—of effort, survival, and real-world effectiveness. A soldier who risked their life to kill ten monsters would earn more than someone who just had a pretty affinity score on paper. And most importantly, it would turn the whole city's awakening forces into a machine driven by incentive.
"Not only does it cut down on dissent," Yvalna mused aloud, "it creates competition, motivation, and loyalty in one swoop. People will want to fight. They'll have to, if they want to live better."
Derek nodded, the glint of calculated ruthlessness in his eyes. "And we log the data into their armbands. Each kill, assist, or strategic contribution gets tallied. Rewards go to those who earn them, not those who expect them."
"Will you include non-combat roles too?" Yvalna asked, watching a drone zip overhead.
"Of course, not everyone awakened a combat role" Derek replied. "This apocalypse isn't just about brute strength. Builders, medics, scouts—they all contribute. We'll set modifiers for each role. If a medic saves someone in active combat, that's huge. A builder speeds up shelter fortifications? That counts too."
Yvalna gave a thoughtful nod. "This'll make them see survival as a system, but they have yet to adapt to their awakening, are you sure, you wanna throw them into a battle like that? "
" Yes, trust me battles are the best way to grow stronger " Derek replied, reminiscing about those sleepless nights he had in the Netherworld 1st Floor, those battles had shaped him experience wise.
" Plus they have you, a powerful combat wind mage, who also happens to be a very powerful healer "
Maya nodded.
" With me watching the battlefield, none of them will die even if they want to " She said smugly.
Derek : (
Yvalna's smug grin lingered as the wind tugged at her coat like a banner of pride. Derek gave her a sidelong glance, resisting the urge to comment on her unshakable confidence. Instead, he turned his gaze back to the approaching tide of monsters, that slow, ugly wave of claws and fangs inching closer to the outer sectors.
Time was ticking. And so were lives.
"Alright," he said, snapping out of thought. "It's time."
He tapped the side of his comm, switching to the encrypted command channel that patched directly into General Miles and the Genesis Squad's network.
"Deploy Phase One recruits," Derek commanded. "I want squads of five—two mid talents, one high if possible, two low grades. Mixed experience. Assign each squad a field medic or support role. Tell the Genesis Squad to supervise from the shadows. They don't intervene unless things spiral."
"Understood, Commander," General Miles replied.
Derek blinked.
Commander?
He rolled his eyes, knowing it wasn't worth arguing about now. The efficiency of the military was quite fast, in a few minutes, the recruits all had been equipped with one weapon or another, and were being marched out. Their postures were unprofessional and lacked confidence but Derek knew it would all change in a few days or maybe hours.
From their vantage point, they could already see movement. Drones zipped into the sky, signaling squad formations through blinking lights, while the shelter zones opened gates in calculated intervals, like an enormous machine beginning to churn.
Moments later, the sound of footfalls echoed across the broken pavement and debris-riddled streets—Awakeners, some with gleaming new armbands, others with makeshift armor strapped on with grit and duct tape, stepping into hell with uncertain eyes.
Suddenly a system notification that could not have come at any better time arrived.
[ Hidden Mission, Create and Equip your own Warrior Unit, completed]
[ Reward: Soldier Point Farming System: All Exp and System Credits from the kills of soldiers will be awarded to host ]
" WTF " Derek cussed aloud, drawing Yvalna's attention, Derek calmed down and maintained a neutral expression.
He had been thinking about how he was going to fill in the EXP and the System Credits, and the Soldier Farming System arrived.
" I am going to become Overpowered "
