Supreme Game: Antimagic Apocalypse

Chapter 72: Bandits?

With the settlement of their new home, Raizel finally felt a heavy weight lift from his shoulders.

All this time, he had been constantly worried about their safety whenever he entered the game. After the recent killings of Alastor and his group, that worry had only intensified.

At last, he could feel reassured about their safety. If anything had happened to them because of his actions, the guilt would have haunted him for the rest of his life.

While his parents and sister were busy settling in, Raizel stepped outside into the well-maintained garden.

He sat on a wooden bench, glancing at the other residences nearby.

From the looks of it, they would have new neighbors soon.

But mingling with them wasn't on his mind right now.

Basking under the warm glow of the sun, Raizel enjoyed the peaceful moment before deciding to log into the game.

Plop!

---

As Raizel logged back into Supreme Game, his body reappeared in the same Caravan, the soft creaking of wood and rhythmic clopping of horses welcoming him back. The scent of dry hay and forest wind greeted him, along with the familiar ambient chatter of adventurers.

The sun in this world had lowered slightly, painting the skies with warm orange hues. The caravan was still en route to Rubens City, rolling steadily through the winding path flanked by trees and grassy fields.

"Sir...You have returned," Lam whispered quietly, her eyes lighting up with both relief and mild irritation.

Raizel gave her an apologetic smile. "Sorry for the wait. Everything's fine now."

She nodded, then shifted closer beside him in the darkness. "Sir, you look different. Did something happen?"

As she came closer to him, the subtle scent women's reached his nostrils, but he kept his expression calm.

In the darkness, Raizel spoke, sounding slightly puzzled. "What do you mean? I look the same as I did."

"No," Lam replied softly. "I can feel it… You sound a little happier. Or should I say, more at ease?"

"Oh? You could tell? I'm surprised by your keen senses, Lam. Yes, I just solved a problem that had been troubling me for a while."

Lam offered a small, knowing smile, her voice soft as the caravan gently rocked with each turn of the wheel.

"I could feel it in the way you breathe, Sir. You are calmer than before," she said, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "I'm glad whatever it was is over now."

Raizel leaned back slightly, gazing at the canvas ceiling above them.

"Yeah. It was starting to suffocate me, honestly. But now that my family's safe…" He trailed off, his voice lowering to a near whisper. "I can finally focus here."

Lam looked at him with subtle admiration. She didn't press further, sensing that whatever had happened wasn't something he was ready to talk about in detail.

But his words made her feel reassured, maybe even proud, that the person she had chosen to trust was reliable not just in battle, but in life.

A comfortable silence settled between them for a moment. It was warm, like the gentle wind brushing past the wagon.

Then Raizel asked casually, tilting his head,

"So… how long was I gone?"

"About two or two hours, Sir," she replied. "Everyone else is still asleep or just quietly meditating. We should be reaching Rubens City before sunset."

"Good… I've been itching to explore it.

Anyway… have you been there before?" Raizel asked casually.

Lam shook her head. "No, Sir. I haven't."

"I see… No worries. I'm sure we'll find our place there."

"Ours? Does he mean living together?"

Lam wondered internally, her cheeks flushing red as her mind ran wild, imagining impossible yet dreamy scenarios.

Then she quickly shook her head, brushing the thought away as foolishness.

"Why would someone so powerful and respected stay with someone like me? I'm not worthy..."

In the dim light of the wagon, Raizel remained unaware of her hesitation and flustered reaction.

There were still a few hours before reaching their destination, but he chose not to return to the real world again. Though the chances were low, he knew their peaceful travel could be interrupted at any moment by bandits or monsters. And he preferred to be there, just in case.

He glanced behind, spotting more wagons trailing their route, each equipped with magical lamps that cast a bright focused glow, illuminating the road like lanterns in a procession.

There were wagons ahead of them too.

From a bird's-eye view, it would appear as a snake-like formation, a seemingly endless line of wagons carrying goods and people, gliding smoothly along the dirt path with near-perfect coordination.

Their strategy for deterring bandits and other threats was almost ingenious.

They have the strength in numbers, vigilant guards, and enough courage to spook most low-level threats.

But life rarely moves according to plan.

An hour passed in relative silence.

Then—

A sudden whistle split through the air. The sound was high-pitched and sharp.

"Bandits!!"

The cry was loud enough to travel across the entire caravan, from the leading wagons to those trailing at the end.

"Screech!"

"Neigh! Neigh!"

Horses reared in panic, their hooves stamping the ground as some wagons abruptly skidded to a halt.

The rhythmic creaking of wheels was replaced by chaotic shouts, clattering armor, and the rising tension of an ambush.

"Sir Raizel!"

Lam whispered urgently, clutching his clothes, feeling increasingly scared as the sounds of wild battle cries reached her ears like a horrifying symphony.

Raizel, already aware of the danger, opened his eyes, waking from half-sleep.

He didn't panic like she did. Instead, he remained calm. He believed he had enough strength to make it out alive.

Outside, the sounds of steel clashing and terrorized screams echoed around them.

It wouldn't be long before the attackers came to loot their wagon.

"Lam, if you're scared, close your eyes and stay hidden. I'll make sure you get out of here alive. Just give me a little time, okay?" he said coldly.

Lam nodded silently, feeling reassured as she gazed into those scary yet intimidating crimson eyes.
