Soul Corruption: System Unavailable [Apocalypse LitRPG]

Chapter 227: You say you want an Evolution

When Adam had tried to take control of the former Unklarn base, he found that the entire network that Sgolkr had built had come under his control. Twenty-six bases joined the Jackson network. That had added 52 points to each stat for all the humans who had accompanied Adam, as the Conqueror titles piled up.

The Jackson network already had more land to defend than adequate people to defend it. For now, Adam returned all the newly conquered bases to Dimensional Convergence Rifts. Their defensive form would allow him to choose what to do with them later. He also refrained from transferring their power to Jackson, not wanting to further increase the size of their territory, instead keeping the extra power in reserve until the Sentinel Army could clear the surrounding states of invaders.

Adam did give some control permissions for the mountain base to the Unklarn, to allow them to continue to mine and access their crafting resources in peace, although based on the contracts they could now only work for the humans. He portaled the short, stocky creatures to Jackson and allowed Golgarn to show them the knowledge and technology there, which really got them excited.

The floating island was returned to Tennessee, sitting just west of the main base in a spot where it wouldn't block the sun from those on the ground. Garrett planned to assign a few of the Unklarn to work with him on improving the movement systems for the island.

Adam wanted to be able to use the mobile base quickly when needed. It was too convenient for locking down enemy bases and attacking them from the sky. Several crafters were assigned to work with the Leputi alchemists to develop bombardment weapons that could be dropped from the island.

The power of the Sentinel Army was growing right along with Adam. Thinking about how he had shaped the energy for his pseudo-skills, Adam wondered how that could be further applied to other people's skills and classes. Maybe he could reshape the skills to be stronger, or increase the energy transfer to better facilitate their stats. Yet, he didn't want to go forward with it until he could do some safe experiments on creatures that he didn't care about.

No need to harm or alter humans when there was an abundance of invaders available to test it on. They just needed to catch them.

Adam had waited around the mountain base as the Sentinels cleaned up and organized the resources and people they had gained. No one bothered approaching Adam besides Lucas, Tom, and Brittney. He stood imperiously off to the side, watching all the movement with his intense eyes while everyone else kept a respectful distance from him.

Truthfully, he was busy thinking of other things, but the people didn't seem to need him to make decisions. After the fight they had witnessed, they knew he had done his job. Everyone accepted that the cleanup was their responsibility.

It took five days for all the work to be completed. The rifts were converted, with Adam doing a fly over to confirm their locations and map out the region, the Unklarn were relocated with people to get them organized, and Adam had plenty of meetings to discuss things with the leaders of the Sentinel Army. He also didn't forget to personally carve names into the Wall of Heroes.

After all that was accomplished, Adam finally had time for a meal with all his friends. When it was finished, he made a short, but exciting, announcement.

"It's time," Adam said, sparing no extra words.

"Finally," said Randall.

"We've been waiting for this, darling," Andrea said, with a lot nodding.

"Think you'll get something good?" asked Nick.

"What are you even asking?" scolded Tom. "Only the best for the boss!"

"It's only Tier 2," mumbled Joseph. "How good can it really be?"

"Don't jinx it," said Brandon.

"Yeah!" chuckled Alissa as she lightly slapped Joseph's shoulder.

The group moved into the living room. The widest sofa was moved forward, with two more moved behind it, as if they were going to watch a movie. Everyone wanted to see what was happening. Adam had never evolved his class, so the tension was high.

"Alright, the betting pool is now officially closed," said Tom. He pulled out a notebook and riffled through the pages. "Yup, yup. We've got everyone's wager on class type and words in the evolution title."

"You opened a betting pool on this?" asked Adam, cocking his head to the side in surprise.

"Of course, darling," acknowledged Andrea. "We had about twenty thousand wagers placed. It's all anyone has been talking about since you beat Sgolkr."

"That's crazy," gasped Adam. "I haven't heard anything about this."

"Do you think anyone had the guts to mention it in front of you?" giggled Alissa.

"Yes, yes. The boss is scary. Hurry up and evolve already!" insisted Tom.

"Ok, let me set it up," said Adam.

He went into the status menu. His normal status without splitting it into three was still just a bunch of black lines. Skipping that, he moved to the [Levels] tab.

You have enough XP to level your class or your body. Which will you level? [ Class / Body / Cancel]

Adam selected "Class" eight times until he was at level 15. He gained six skill points and had two more skill selections.

Select a skill: [Firm Stance]: Stay on your feet even when impacted by force. [Push Back]: Redirect 10% of the force an opponent uses on you back to them while defending. [Drop Back]: When impacted by enough force to displace you, there is a 10% chance to move to a non-harmful distance.

Select a skill: [Deflect]: Increases the ease of redirecting an attack with a shield by 10%. [Parry]: Increases the ease of redirecting an attack with a weapon by 10%. [Stun]: You have a 5% chance to briefly incapacitate an opponent when striking their head with a blunt object.

Not caring enough to put a lot of thought into those skills, Adam made quick selections based on the weapons he usually fought with. He selected [Push Back] since it didn't require a shield and might be useful for throwing an opponent off balance when he went toe to toe against them. Then he selected [Stun], hoping his fists and gauntlets would be considered a blunt weapon. [Deflect] required a shield, making it useless, and he could already parry on his own thanks to his strength.

Once finished with his preparations, Adam increased the size of the display and made it visible for everyone. Several people repositioned themselves, making sure they could see better.

Then Adam switched the tab to [Evolutions].

Possible Evolutions for your class have been found. Would you like to view your options?

"Yes!" said Adam, bouncing a little on his seat in excitement. Abbey rested her hand on his arm. He calmed down, smiled at her, and then went back to the display.

Below are the evolutions that you qualify for. Due to the number of options, click on a class name to view more details on it.

"Number of options? How many do I even have?" asked Adam, mostly rhetorically. Oddly, the menu answered him.

7,184 classes have been qualified for.

"Holy BOSS, that's a lot," exclaimed Tom.

"Well, I guess let's look at them then," said Adam, as he opened the list.

To evolve to Tier 2, Adam would need to select a class in the Protection path, since that was where his starter class was. However, his options also included new Tier 1 class paths that he could switch to. They started with some familiar ones.

[Warrior] [Scout] [Mage] [Support] …

Moving past those, Adam began to see higher rarity classes that were available to start paths with. They were organized first by their primary stat, and then by rarity.

Strength Oriented: Uncommon classes: [Fighter] [Brawler] [Masher] [Smasher] [Puncher] [Dueler] …

They went on and on. Adam winced a little as he moved through the list. There were hundreds of classes listed. He wasn't very interested in these, so he scrolled down quickly.

"Hurry to the good ones, boss!" rushed Tom.

"Show them all once, please," requested Ed. "I'm recording these for our records. As long as I see them, I can add them to our library."

Adam moved through the list, and nothing really seemed worth it to him. Sure, they were all better than what humanity had started with, but with as many options as he had, it seemed likely that he would have better options once he hit other rarities.

Rare classes: [Destroyer] [Compressor] [Eradicator] [Ravager] …

"Boooooring," joked Nick. "Get to the good stuff!"

They went through the different rarities, making sure every class was visible for an instant so Ed could catalog them later. They passed through rare and epic. When they got to mythical, Lamar let out a whistle, but that wasn't the end of it.

After mythical they hit legendary, causing them to slow down. The classes there weren't as numerous, but that was only compared to the other rarities. To have even a single Tier 1 class of that rarity seemed ridiculous considering humans had originally only been offered the weakest of beginner classes. Adam doubted other races could achieve the requirements for legendary at tier 1 as well.

"[World Crushing Pupa]? [Devastating Storm of Chaos]? [Obliterating Force of Nothingness]?" read Tom. "Maybe you need to change your path to a warrior's, boss. Those are some ridiculous names."

Out of curiosity, Adam selected one, just to see what the description said.

[Soul Reaping Demonling]

Your enemies will fall before you. Merely meeting your gaze will remove any hope of their survival. This is an area attack class geared towards massacring large groups from a distance. Your power will aim to take all life, ally and enemy alike.

Status Increases per level: 12 strength, 2 agility, 4 wisdom. Requirement: Single handedly kill a thousand enemies at least 2 tiers above you.

"Now that is a large number of stats per level, and only the first tier," comment Lucas, impressed. "The higher tier classes must be even crazier. I wonder if anyone has earned this before."

"Stats aren't everything," retorted Abbey. "Besides, he'll kill everyone with that class, not just enemies."

"I doubt anyone in the universe has gotten that, considering the requirement," pointed out Brandon.

"Yeah, let's look at everything and then Adam can come back to what interests him," suggested Carlos.

To everyone's surprise, there was a rarity category after legendary. The rarity was called "impossible."

Impossible classes:

[Future World Atomizer] You are on your way to becoming a force of destruction that will reduce planets to ash just by approaching them. Each skill in this class will magnify the power of a single damage skill. The multipliers will become high enough in future evolutions that entire worlds will disappear from the universe from your presence.

Status Increases per level: 14 strength, 8 vitality, 8 intelligence. Requirement: Destroy armies from 10 different worlds before selecting a class.

[Raging Universal Singularity] All light and matter are yours to play with. Your emotions are strong enough to burn through all you touch, absorbing their existence to strengthen yourself.

Status Increases per level: No inherent increase per level. Every kill you make, or object you destroy will give you 1 point to selected stat. Requirement: Mindlessly kill, destroy, or acquire every foreign life you encounter.

"Those are…really bleak," said Adam while frowning, his mood falling. "Am I really this destructive? Is that all I've become?"

"Don't worry, darling, we'll love you as you are," comforted Andrea.

"Remember, Adam, this is just the strength path," answered Brittney thoughtfully. "It's all about death and violence. I'm sure it'll be better when we look at other lines."

Adam nodded to her, accepting what she said. He would find out if it was true or not as he went through the list.

Next came the wisdom-based classes. He moved through them quickly, curious if he had any of the impossible rarity too. At the end of the list, he found three.

Impossible classes:

[Master Regenerator] You have self-healed more than any other of your stature. The peak of class evolutions will allow you to heal from anything. Even time will be unable to wear you down.

Status Increases per level: 20 wisdom, 10 vitality Requirement: Heal yourself more than the combined healing of everyone else in your world before gaining a class.

[Soul Sculptor] Souls were never meant to be malleable from the outside, but to you they are putty. The peak of class evolution will allow you to reshape souls with but a thought. Who they were will no longer matter as all will move by your whims.

Status Increases per level: 20 wisdom, 10 intelligence Requirement: Reshape portions of 3 or more souls without a related class

[Energy Maelstrom] Energy bows to your will, in all forms. The peak of class evolutions will allow you to manipulate all forms of energy. Your physical form will give way to the very energy of the universe, as you command it to. A higher plane of existence will become your reality.

Status Increases per level: 22 wisdom, 4 intelligence, 4 agility Requirement: Possess the ability to manipulate 2 or more types of energy through willpower alone

"Those options don't really make me feel any better," sighed Adam. "It seems like all the impossible options are just as destructive to me as what's around me."

Before anyone else could give an opinion or try to comfort Adam, he moved the list down. Next in the list were the vitality-based classes, like his current [Protector] class. It seemed that he didn't have any agility or intelligence-oriented classes. Probably since the [Grand Blood Berserker] class was in the strength line while future Adam's [Soul Forger] class was in the wisdom one, he had used enough abilities from them to qualify for classes within their stats. The same couldn't be said for agility and intelligence.

While trying to hold on to hope for some more positive sounding classes, Adam continued onto the vitality list.
