Chapter 101: The Curtain Falls Amidst Applause

Yu Sheng, before he could forget the string of disjointed content, blurted out all the intelligence he had heard, almost biting his tongue in the process—it was almost entirely based on instinct and that bit of short-term memory, and after he finished, Little Red Riding Hood responded with a dumbfounded "Huh?" which completely threw him off.

Fortunately, right after that, Little Red Riding Hood fished out a recording device from her pocket...

"It's my habit. You should adopt this habit too, always carry a 24-hour recording device with you—don't use the phones issued by the Special Service Bureau, they waste battery life, a voice recorder is enough," Little Red Riding Hood said as she operated it and spoke to Yu Sheng, "In the Exotic Realm, unexpected situations always arise, and human attention isn't always reliable. Having a recording device to review facts anytime is very useful."

After a slight noise, the voice recorder played back the long string of content that Yu Sheng had rapidly recounted earlier.

Little Red Riding Hood, Erin, and Hu Li simultaneously looked up, their gazes of confusion, astonishment, and curiosity all landing on Yu Sheng.

Hu Li was the first to speak: "Savior, this is..."

"He said it," Yu Sheng raised his hand and pointed towards the corpse beside him, "It spoke so suddenly, I almost didn't catch it, luckily my short-term memory is still decent."

Erin and Little Red Riding Hood were immediately horrified, while Hu Li still looked at Yu Sheng admiringly and without a care, "Savior, your Spirit Communication Technique is truly masterful!"

"How can you accept anything so bizarre! Anything that happens to Yu Sheng, you think it's normal, right?" Erin looked astonishedly at Hu Li, then turned to Yu Sheng, her eyes widening in anger, "What's going on, weren't you just standing dumbfounded beside that table? When did the corpse start talking?!"

"Maybe... it was because I touched this?" Yu Sheng was also pondering this question, and he glanced thoughtfully at the dry blood residue on his fingertip, "At that moment, I suddenly saw the whole hall come to a standstill..."

He didn't hold anything back and poured out his brief experience, including the abnormal phenomena in the hall and the weird state of Hu Li, Erin, and Little Red Riding Hood. After finishing his recount, he curiously rubbed his finger on the bloodstain on the display stand again, but this time, the phenomenon of the "deceased speaking" did not occur again.

"It seems like it was a one-time thing," Yu Sheng muttered, rubbing his fingers, "Little Red Riding Hood, does this make sense?"

Little Red Riding Hood didn't respond, still in a state of "this is too chaotic, I haven't figured it out yet."

Yu Sheng could tell that there was no need for a reply from the other party, this matter seemed illogical.

Just like many illogical things that happened to him, just like countless illogical things in this world that he had seen.

The little doll, after being frozen for a while, finally grasped the situation and hesitated before saying: "I think... this shouldn't be a hallucination."

"Whether it's a hallucination or not, let's just go see," Yu Sheng said, pointing towards the entrance on the other end of the white gallery, "The deceased told me that the killer discarded the Wailer Statue in the corridor."

Hu Li immediately headed towards that corridor.

Seeing this, Erin quickly cautioned, "Hey, be careful, don't run into any traps."

Hu Li found this very sensible, nodded her head, made a strange hand gesture, and eight of her nine tails detached and flew in front of her surrounded by Fox Fire, moving forward slowly like a group of reconnaissance drones.

She also turned her head to Yu Sheng and explained, "Savior, this is called 'Tail Control Technique'..."

Yu Sheng's face twitched, as he tried to maintain a serious expression while preemptively sensing the surroundings to confirm there were no hidden "Security Guards."

Little Red Riding Hood still had a hard time accepting the scene of the fox using her bunch of tails as drones, her eyes twitched several times, and she wanted to speak up but ultimately held back.

Moments later, a fox tail returned from deep within the corridor, curling around an object at the tip.

It was a small pristine white statue—a woman sculpted in a strange twisted posture, her hands covering her face, crying.

This was the original target of the "assignment."

The fox girl retracted her tails and joyfully returned to Yu Sheng holding the small statue, handing over the mission item like offering prey: "Savior, it really was there!"

Yu Sheng reached out and took the small statue about twenty centimeters tall, but having the mission item in hand did not bring any sense of "complete success."

What was originally thought to be a straightforward, experienced hand guiding a beginner in a quick retrieval mission had now turned into an especially thorny and complicated event.

"The statue really was in the corridor... So the information you 'heard' from the deceased is mostly true," Little Red Riding Hood said with a complex expression looking at the "Wailer" statue in Yu Sheng's hands, "I just remembered, the Five Rivers you mentioned must be mistaken, but indeed there is a district called Wusong River in the southern part of Boundary City, it's far from here... Boundary City is huge, some districts have different local accents than the main city area."

"The meaning of 'Assist His Descent' and 'Free the Savior from Suffering', can you understand them?" Yu Sheng asked curiously.

"I've never dealt with followers of the Angel Sect—this is too dangerous for an ordinary Spirit Realm detective. Whenever we come across such clues, we report them immediately, then try to stay as far away as possible," Little Red Riding Hood shook her head, "People from the Special Service Bureau definitely know more, it's just... I would really advise against you inquiring about these matters."

"Why?" Yu Sheng frowned.

"Because the 'Angel' worshiped by the Angel Sect is frankly the 'Dark Angel', the thing you encountered in the valley last time — the guy who worships that thing like a God, do you think he can be any good?"

Little Red Riding Hood spoke with a gravely serious face.

"Even amongst all the insane cult groups and extremist organizations, the Angel Sect is the most unreasonable of all, so much so that even the 'Black Dot Group', an extremist force widely wanted in many orderly zones, issues arrest warrants for Angel Sect members in their controlled areas. That should tell you how twisted these people are."

She seemed worried that Yu Sheng might not yet grasp the dangers of these lunatics and added, "They're not just crazy, what's more critical is that they seem to actually have some kind of connection with the 'Dark Angel'; the more you deal with them, the madness spreads, even attracting the gaze of the 'Dark Angel' itself—thus even the regular armies tasked with the extermination of the Angel Sect require strict psychological evaluations and administrative leave after each interaction with them. Really, it's best to avoid any involvement with this group altogether."

Yu Sheng, feeling the weight of Little Red Riding Hood's repeated and grave emphasis, recalled the mysterious and terrifying giant eye he saw in the valley, his expression growing solemn: "Okay, I understand."

Little Red Riding Hood let out a sigh of relief, looking around the now especially eerie and ruin-filled white exhibition hall.

"We should leave."

"How do we get out exactly?" Yu Sheng asked, "Uh, I mean, what's the normal process?"

Before Little Red Riding Hood could respond, Erin interjected with confusion: "Huh? Wouldn't we just open the door and go home?"

"Maybe not?" Yu Sheng's face showed a trace of embarrassment, "It's late at night, and we can't call the Special Service Bureau from the Exotic Realm to report; sudden alarms sound pretty scary. Besides, I'd like to experience the normal process of leaving the Exotic Realm."

"Cough cough, to leave the museum normally there are only two methods," Little Red Riding Hood coughed lightly, "Either survive here until the 'night show' ends, which is the morning of the next day in the real world, or let 'Museum Night' come to a grand 'final curtain', which is when the theater resounds with lasting applause—the performance ends with the applause."

"Waiting until the end of the night show takes too long," Yu Sheng immediately shook his head, "What does it mean by bringing 'Museum Night' to a grand finale? How would we do that?"

"There's no clear standard, basically, if we treat our entire activity in the museum as a 'performance' on stage, then to satisfy the invisible audience in the theater they must feel 'satisfied' or 'amazed'," explained Little Red Riding Hood, "There are many ways to achieve this effect, sometimes even accidentally triggering applause—someone once improvised a painting in an exhibition hall, someone just hummed a song, and someone even received applause amidst an internal team quarrel. The most outrageous instance was an investigator who got trapped in an exhibition hall, was severely injured, and in his despair cursed at the museum loudly; surprisingly, while cursing, a thunderous applause erupted..."

Yu Sheng: "…"

Is it that random?!

After a moment of exclamation, he turned his gaze towards the small doll that had again climbed upon his shoulder.

Erin immediately reacted, glaring dramatically (or not): "What are you looking at me for? Hey, it's impolite to treat a lady this way, I'll have you know! Usually, when I speak my mind, it's just my natural reaction, are you stereotyping me..."

Yu Sheng thought for a moment and also felt that allowing Erin to curse might not be a reliable way to satisfy the 'audience', so he looked at Little Red Riding Hood: "The chase we just had with the 'Security Guard' was pretty thrilling, wasn't that enough to meet the 'final curtain' criteria?"

"'Combat' is actually the least likely to achieve a 'final curtain,' because a 'Security Guard' is a part of the museum's mechanics; combat with 'Security Guards' is likely viewed as a normal part of the Museum Night's performance, lacking an 'amazing' and 'off-script' effect," Little Red Riding Hood analyzed carefully, "As I understand it, to meet the 'final curtain' condition, something 'that should not happen in the Museum Night script' must occur."

Upon hearing this, Yu Sheng began to think.

This time, before Erin could remind him, Little Red Riding Hood also instantly realized something—Yu Sheng had an idea.

Indeed, Yu Sheng spoke up quickly, "You just said, our encounter with the security guard is a valid part of the big 'script' of Museum Night, right?"

Little Red Riding Hood, not knowing what the other party was thinking, just inexplicably nodded: "Right."

"What if, without encountering the security guard, we still cause a huge 'artistic' scene?"

Little Red Riding Hood: "…Ah?"

Yu Sheng did not explain, instead turning to Hu Li: "Do you still have enough tail reserves?"

Hu Li nodded vigorously: "Plenty, I also have Fox Fires available—they're unlimited."

"That'll do," Yu Sheng suddenly smiled, his expression extremely cheerful.

Little Red Riding Hood felt a chill from his smile and finally couldn't hold back: "What on earth are you planning to do?"

With a cheeky laugh, Yu Sheng raised his hand and pointed towards a door not far off: "See that? We came from there earlier, there's a large exhibition hall over there filled with a heap of sculptures and antiques. Let Hu Li pile all his stored tails there, and before security arrives, let's make a big bang. If that's not enough, we'll burn down all the exhibition halls along the way and collapse all the passages here…"

Little Red Riding Hood was dumbfounded, yet what astonished her even more was that Hu Li did not hesitate in nodding his head.

However, the next second, before Little Red Riding Hood could voice her doubts and before Yu Sheng could take any action, a sudden thunderous applause from all directions interrupted everyone's movements.

The museum erupted in applause.
