Chapter 115: The Indescribable Invader

Invaders.

To be honest, Yu Sheng's heart had already been fluctuating before hearing these three words—with the revelation that Dark Angels could appear in the real world and when he heard the term "another planet" from Song Cheng's mouth. He had already realized that those beings called "Angels" were likely much more bizarre and powerful than he imagined. However, what he hadn't expected was that those things could actually be invaders... from beyond this world.

He had originally thought that these entities were similar to those in the Exotic Realm, merely a strange phenomenon of this world, at most a more dangerous "Super Entity."

"...No wonder Little Red Riding Hood advised me to avoid getting involved with the Dark Angels."

Yu Sheng subconsciously muttered quietly.

Song Cheng heard Yu Sheng's muttering, but he didn't say anything. Instead, he continued to place more files on the coffee table in front of him: "I've also brought several other Dark Angels' files, but not all of them—some Dark Angels have a 'leak' characteristic when their known names are mentioned and can only be referred to and studied in the Special Service Bureau's 'safe house'. Others are listed as taboo for various reasons, and even I don't have access, but you can take a look at these, as there's no harm in just looking."

Yu Sheng, however, did not immediately reach for the information on the coffee table like before, but suddenly threw out a curious question: "Why are you so concerned about me? I guess when dealing with other Spirit Realm detectives, you definitely wouldn't directly reveal this level of files—even if they have encountered Dark Angels."

Song Cheng thought for a moment: "Because we suspect that you have the power to expel 'Angels'."

Yu Sheng instinctively felt this might be a reason, but not the whole reason.

However, he did not delve deeper, but seriously refuted: "The big-eyed creature in Nightfall Valley wasn't expelled by me—it left on its own."

"But it left after seeing you. Although there were others present at the time, you were the most unique one among them," Song Cheng said, his tone a bit helpless, "I know this argument isn't very convincing, but the truth is—we are just so powerless against the Dark Angels.

"No one can summarize their weaknesses or patterns of behavior, nor can anyone communicate with those beings. To date, around the world, whether inside or outside the Boundary Land, there are very few successful cases of expelling a descended 'Angel', and they have no reference to each other. Each time an 'Angel' departs, it seems like they simply 'stayed enough and left on their own'. So we can only try our luck like this. Perhaps the 'eye's' departure really had nothing to do with you, but... what if?"

At this point, Song Cheng paused, then added: "This is also Director Baili Qing's judgment. Without her consent, I wouldn't be able to bring you these materials."

"Baili Qing?" Yu Sheng raised his eyebrows, then finally his gaze landed on the new materials.

However, he did not examine them carefully, but just quickly scanned them.

"Really... bizarre," while looking at the peculiar, even abstractly chaotic images and the accompanying notes below the images, Yu Sheng couldn't help but feel astounded, "Shadows, a flame, a huge silent cube flying through the night sky... and what's this with a sphere?"

"Its diameter is about four thousand kilometers."

Yu Sheng's expression was somewhat blank: "...What?"

"You did not hear it wrong, 'Heka Star', named after its initial discoverers and sacrifices, with a diameter of about four thousand kilometers, is the largest 'Dark Angel' with a confirmed physical dimension to date. Its surface is neatly covered with countless hexagonal lattice-like honeycomb structures, and there is a strong life reaction inside. It abruptly bursts into life-bearing star systems and continuously 'broadcasts' strange radio signals from a safe distance. Although there is no explicit evidence, we believe that the broadcasts of the Heka Star might lead intelligent beings to gradually fall into madness, and many notorious wars and terror coups could possibly be related to the proximity of the Heka Star."

Yu Sheng put down those materials, looking at Song Cheng incredulously, "Am I supposed to fight this thing? Seriously?"

"No, no, of course not," Song Cheng quickly waved his hand, "This scale of entity isn't something that can be 'defeated'. We just hope... that you could learn more about Dark Angels, just in case it might be useful in the future, right?"

Yu Sheng curled his lips, bypassing the topic directly: "Let's talk about something else. What else do you understand about these 'Angels'?"

"Regarding their influence," said Song Cheng solemnly, "although Dark Angels are varied and have different characteristics, almost all of them have one thing in common: their connection to the 'Exotic Realm', and their influence on it.

"Just like I said earlier, although Dark Angels can appear in the real world, relatively speaking, they 'descend' more frequently within the Exotic Realm, and under their influence, the 'parasitized' Exotic Realm gets vivified, its entities become more dangerous and violent, and even the operating rules of the entire Exotic Realm change, including its depth—You might still remember the situation in Nightfall Valley, right?"

"Oh, I remember that all too well," Yu Sheng spread his hands, "Theoretically, only one Hunger Entity was supposed to generate at a time, yet they suddenly became ubiquitous, and even the entire valley ended up turning into a massive 'entity'—fortunately, we were quite lucky."

"In most cases, people who find themselves in the Exotic Realm aren't so 'lucky', so those who encounter Dark Angels rarely survive. Even if the 'Angels' themselves do not attack them, the victims still die from the catastrophic environmental changes caused by the Angels' Descent either by the entities or the rules of the Exotic Realm," Song Cheng spoke gravely, "We have been studying the behavioral patterns of Dark Angels, and about the phenomenon that they appear more frequently in the Exotic Realm than in the real world, some scholars speculate that there is something in the Exotic Realm 'attracting' them, or perhaps…"

"Or perhaps?"

"Or perhaps because the 'Exotic Realm' itself is some kind of 'weak structure in space-time' belonging to our world. In the Exotic Realm, the force of order is weak, providing an opportunity for these 'Angels' to slip in. I said earlier, Dark Angels are 'invaders' from beyond our world; they drill holes into our world, and the 'Exotic Realm', for these invaders, might just be some kind of... 'natural hole'."

Yu Sheng pondered thoughtfully, and at that moment, Erin, who had been quietly listening all this time, suddenly spoke up: "Then tell us about those 'Angel Sect' members. Why would a bunch of crazies willingly follow these sinister 'Angels'? These 'Angels' can't communicate, they probably don't even respond to the so-called prayers of believers, right?"

"We've captured many followers of the Angel Sect, you might not believe it, but these 'crazies' are more widespread than you imagine, not just including Boundary Land—basically, wherever Dark Angels descend, these influenced fanatics appear," Song Cheng's expression grew more somber as he spoke about this, "Some of them fall into degeneracy due to their obsession with power and the allure of unknown knowledge, but the most core and fanatical group insist that they are being 'guided'."

"Guided? By whom? These..." Yu Sheng said, pointing his finger at the materials on the coffee table, "These abstract Angels? Aren't they unable to communicate?"

"They are unable to communicate, but the cultists insist that they can truly hear the voice of the 'Dark Angels'; and it's not just any chaotic, meaningless noise, but real 'guidance' and 'teachings'. I've interrogated some stubborn elements, and they often describe the 'voice of guidance' they hear as follows —

"Gentle, tolerant, full of compassion and mercy, these voices show them the end of all things in the universe, yet firmly inspire them by telling them how to find a way out and how to work alongside the 'Angels' in seeking salvation."

Song Cheng paused to organize his language before continuing, "By analyzing the mental state of these cultists and inducing them through hypnotism, we can approximate the process by which Dark Angels exert their influence on them. This 'guidance' process is intensely immersive; massive, continual illusions drag the human minds completely into an inhuman 'perspective' and have them live through eons in this manner. Ordinary people's minds simply cannot withstand this influence, and after being guided, they are completely transformed—even though their appearances remain human, their minds have become something inhuman.

"This puzzles scholars the most—Dark Angels are diverse, from their abilities to their forms, they do not seem to belong to the same species, but the 'guidance' heard by the Angel Sect followers, regardless of which Dark Angel they follow, seems to be largely similar, involving a 'Dark Doomsday', including a 'way out seeking salvation', and many details between these elements are also highly consistent, leading us to rethink 'whether Dark Angels have intelligence' and 'whether Dark Angels are a unified species'."

"Sounds like this research is quite dangerous." Yu Sheng remarked as he listened to Song Cheng's exposition.

"It is, indeed, very dangerous; the biggest challenge lies in that you can't delve too deeply into researching Dark Angels—superficial understanding won't unravel their secrets, but if you understand them too much, you unknowingly fall under their influence, or even during interactions with these cultists, you might accidentally 'see' the 'guidance' in their minds. Many scholars who originally opposed the Angels were thus subtly transformed into new followers of the Angel Sect."
