The forest trembled under the roar of artillery, dark and twisted fairy tales burning fiercely in the magical flames, the wolf pack that grew in the shadows was torn apart, knocked down successively, the entire region violently ripped open by pure force, the lush trees like fragile saplings, mowed down in the blink of an eye, plowing open a wide avenue.
The squirrel stared blankly at all of this, hidden in Little Red Riding Hood's hood, its body shaking, the forest's rising flames reflected in its glossy little eyes, as if the scene had melted the entire canopy of heaven.
It was never like this, it had always never been—
Scouting, evading, transferring, hiding, then evading again, continuing to transfer to the next safe house; for many years, this was the only way Little Red Riding Hood, who had fallen into the Black Forest, managed to survive. This malicious dense forest never allowed its prey to do anything "out of line," and those unfortunate prey never had the power to rebel against these rules.
Such a thing had never happened before—prey shredding the wolf pack with blood and fire, forcibly carving out a path in the forest.
The squirrel was no longer screaming, it just stared blankly, as if its small brain couldn't bear the burden anymore, the events unfolding before it overwhelming its ability to think and judge.
Little Red Riding Hood was laughing, however, a laugh that was unprecedented, joyful and relaxed—When the howling of wolves arose, fear would still sprout from the bottom of her heart. However, the Foxfire Barrage sweeping across her sight, the Fox Tail Missiles flying through the sky, and the viciously swinging Wolf Fang Club caught in the corner of her eye would bring her another set of emotions, a strange, unrestrained, indulgent excitement, and pleasure repeatedly hitting that fear, melding into a tremble that she herself couldn't clearly articulate or understand.
She didn't know whether she was scared, happy, or simply venting; she just felt that this was good, even if only once in her life, it was still good.
She had grown to hate this place; she wanted to see it burn passionately.
Yu Sheng slightly turned his head, catching the smile on the face of the red-clothed girl and the spark in her eyes.
Good, children should go a little mad every once in a while. She's not even eighteen yet, there's no need for her to be overly cautious like an adult so soon.
Let the real adults be concerned about looking before and after.
He moved his wrists, rotating the rebar Wolf Fang Club soldered with blades, nails, and broken pieces of steel, easing his numb, aching muscles.
This thing was very handy. When swung with full force, he could easily crush the wolves' heads. These monsters emerging from the shadows had a physical form when they pounced, which gave Yu Sheng a great opportunity—many wolves had now been turned into corpses with burst skulls, lying on the blazing trail through the forest.
Some of the bodies had already staggered back upright, blindly wandering through the forest, waiting for opportunities to gnaw at other wolf packs emerging from the shadows.
Yu Sheng shared the same blood with them.
It was also through the spreading blood that Yu Sheng could clearly grasp the changes in the Black Forest.
The forest was not burning fiercely enough—compared to this boundless forest, the blaze ignited by Fox Fire at best just looked like an insignificant flame.
Countless wolf packs were being born out of the deeper darkness, their numbers endless, their malice increasing by the moment, the rate of their destruction far behind the pace of their growth.
The largest Evil Wolf had not been eradicated; although when the sixteen Fox Radish Missiles landed, Yu Sheng had for a moment sensed the Evil Wolf's gaze dissipate, but shortly after, he noticed the Evil Wolf's presence rapidly regenerating. That monster, born from Little Red Riding Hood's cognition and deepest fears, could unconditionally and infinitely reappear in the Black Forest, and now, the reborn creature was slowly approaching them.
This nightmare was too vast, too big for even a fire to cleanse completely.
And Little Red Riding Hood was unaware of this—she might think of these things once she calmed down, but for now, she was clearly still immersed in the joy of watching the Black Forest burn fiercely.
Then let her continue to be happy; children should be joyful.
Yu Sheng exhaled softly, yet the excited and pleased expression on his face didn't fade in the slightest.
He could still create a little more chaos, and with such a commotion… the Hunter hidden somewhere must have taken notice. If they had even a shred of "sanity," by now, they should be sufficiently interested in this group of lawless intruders.
The wooden cabin with lights on came into view at the end of his sight.
"Look! The cabin!" Yu Sheng raised the Tetanus Wand covered in blood and pointed towards that fanciful wooden cabin, "Let's go check it out!"
He strode forward.
Blue magical flames extended under his feet, tall twisted trees fell thunderously beside him, the shrieking of Fox Tail Missiles piercing the sky; twilight had faded without notice, the night sky reflecting the soaring flames—wave after wave of wolf packs surged from the darkness, only to be driven back again and again by Hu Li's dense firing.
"Savior! It seems like there's no end to them!" Hu Li began to feel a bit strained, sensing something was off, she shouted at Yu Sheng, "And the new wolves that appeared are harder to kill—they just won't die after several shots!"
"It's fine, we've arrived."
Yu Sheng said without looking back; before his voice even fell, he had already stepped into the warm range of light spilling out from the cabin's window.
In the blink of an eye, the howling of wolves around them weakened.
The wolf pack began to disperse quickly, even those that had materialized and charged close started to turn back into shadows upon entering the cabin's range, melting away in the light.
Hu Li caught her breath, holding her large tail in each hand, with many detached Fox Fires still revolving around her, amazed by the scene.
The squirrel poked its head out from Little Red Riding Hood's shoulder, its eyes looking back in the direction they had come from before turning to look at the cabin standing silently at the end of the Path of Fire, letting out a mournful, frightened squeak: "What's going to happen next—"
Yu Sheng arrived at the cabin's doorway, peeked inside, then with a smile on his face, knocked on the wooden door.
"Is Wolf Grandmother home?"
The cabin was quiet, without any response.
Yu Sheng knocked again.
"A guest is here—"
Still, there wasn't the slightest stir inside the cabin.
"It seems Wolf Grandmother really isn't here." Yu Sheng shook his head, said to Hu Li and Erin, then pushed the door open all at once.
With a creak, the door opened, and the warm light from inside the cabin hit them in the face, accompanied by an incredible sense of ease and tranquility, as if protected by some power.
Holding the still-dripping Tetanus Wand in one hand, Yu Sheng cautiously, but not overly so, stepped into the cabin.
He heard a "thump" from above.
"What was that noise!" Yu Sheng instantly tensed up, gripping the War Stick and spun around on alert.
Then he heard a frantic voice from his shoulder: "I bumped my head on the door frame! Couldn't you watch where you're going when you enter?!"
Only then did Yu Sheng belatedly turn his head to look, seeing Erin holding her forehead and mumbling, "Sss... Damn, this door frame is too low... I ducked my head in advance and still didn't dodge it... Damn you, Yu Sheng..."
The puppet's misfortune quickly dissolved the remaining tension in the group, and everyone soon showed an understanding smile, with Hu Li being the most outrageous—she laughed out loud.
Erin swore quite unpleasantly.
"Let's rest here for a bit." Yu Sheng casually leaned the War Stick against the door, turned to Hu Li and said.
Hu Li gave an "oh" sound, finally relaxed her tightly wound nerves a bit, walked to the middle of the room to sit beside the dining table, then pulled out a big handful of jerky from her tail and started gnawing on it crunchily.
The Fox Radish automatic missile system is replenishing her ammunition.jpg.
Little Red Riding Hood also walked in, sitting on the empty bed, looking a bit lost in thought.
The squirrel crawled out of her hood, stood on her shoulder, and joined her in staring blankly.
Yu Sheng glanced at the items laid out on the wooden dining table, rummaged through a wooden bowl, and pulled out an acorn, walking toward the dazed squirrel: "Here, you lost your acorn earlier, here's a new one."
The squirrel hesitantly took the acorn but showed no intent to eat, just staring blankly up at Yu Sheng for a while before finally saying, "Thank you..."
Watching the squirrel's reaction, Yu Sheng found it quite amusing, deliberately teasing it: "What about the classic phrase that follows?"
The squirrel dumbfounded: "What phrase?"
"That one, XX are squirrels' best friends—Since I gave you an acorn, am I your best friend now?"
The squirrel remained stunned, motionless for a long time, as if it had frozen.
Yu Sheng didn't care about its reaction; he was just playing with this strange little creature. Now, he withdrew his gaze, looking up at the seemingly calmed night sky.
The Wolf Pack had retreated, the Black Forest had returned to quiet, with only the undying blue ghostly flames still burning slowly in the woods, but also gradually being swallowed and extinguished by the surrounding darkness.
Areas torn by flames and explosions were gradually returning to their original state.
"That Evil Wolf is lingering nearby," Yu Sheng suddenly said, "but it doesn't seem to be approaching for now."
Little Red Riding Hood lifted her head, staring blankly at him.
"It's not dead. We only caused a ruckus, we're a long way from destroying this place," said Yu Sheng with a smile to the girl, but then shook his head, "It's fine, if it comes I'll fight it, you don't have to be afraid."
"I'm not afraid." Little Red Riding Hood lowered her head, her voice somewhat muffled.
As her words fell, as if she feared that he would see through her nervousness at that moment, she quickly changed the subject, pointing at Hu Li, who was happily gnawing on her jerky: "What's she eating? It looks pretty tasty."
"...Tasty jerky," Yu Sheng walked over, took a strip of jerky from Hu Li, and handed it to Little Red Riding Hood, "Wanna try?"
