Chapter 80 Running

What could be beyond the valley?

Yu Sheng felt that curiosity was a natural response—the continuous roll of mountains stood quietly in his sight, not towering into the clouds beyond reach, and there was no longer any fearsome barrier covering the sky. Hence, anyone living here would naturally be curious about the scenery beyond those mountains.

"Have you ever tried to climb over that mountain before?" Yu Sheng curiously asked Hu Li.

"I... tried a long time ago, when the Immortal was still here," Hu Li nodded immediately, "Back then, I went with a few adults, we tried to get over it, but we couldn't reach the summit—halfway up, terrifying sounds would start coming from the sky, and climbing any higher would make us start losing strength, and we'd see many horrifying miasmas. The Immortal even tried turning stone into dummies and sent them to climb the mountain, but they lost contact halfway, and the next day, the pieces of the stone dummies rolled down from the mountain, and every piece was bleeding. The adults who went to check said that flesh and bones had started growing from the stones."

"Sounds from the sky... sounds like the influence of the 'Dark Angel' that covered the sky before," Erin muttered, "But not sure if it's deliberate or just a 'passive effect'; after all, such a sinister thing can have a big impact just by 'existing'."

"Now that the Dark Angel is gone, we could try again," Yu Sheng looked at Erin and Hu Li with an inquiring gaze, "What do you think?"

Hu Li immediately nodded: "I'll follow Savior's lead."

Erin waved her hand: "I'm indifferent, you always have ideas, and want to try all kinds of sinister stuff, I'm used to it."

"Alright, that's unanimous then, let's go."

"How do we get there? Open a portal?" Erin glanced at Yu Sheng.

"We'll have to walk," Yu Sheng gestured, "I've never been there, and it's hard to get a fix on the location if we portal directly. Besides, if that's the edge of the Exotic Realm, the environment might be very special, and portaling directly could be unsafe—if we walk there, we can respond in time to any environmental changes we observe."

On hearing this, Erin suddenly showed a look of surprise: "You actually have a concept of 'safety'?!"

Yu Sheng: "I'm gonna drop you! Sitting on my shoulder and you're still talking so much!"

Hu Li glanced at Yu Sheng and Erin, who were still bickering, then spoke up after a bit of thought: "Well... it's difficult to walk through the valley, and you don't know the convenient routes up the mountain, shall I lead you?"

Yu Sheng curiously asked, "Lead us? How?"

Then he saw the fox girl run forward a few steps and plop down—accompanied by a gust of wind and a glimmer of light, her form suddenly dissipated and changed in the light. Before he could see what happened, a giant Silver White Demon Fox appeared in front of Yu Sheng and Erin.

Yu Sheng had seen Hu Li transform into a fox before, but it was Erin's first time witnessing this scene. The little doll's eyes widened in amazement, and after a vigorous "wow" she exclaimed, "Holy moly! It's bigger than two vans."

"Do you have to describe it like that?" Yu Sheng couldn't help but give the doll on his shoulder a glance, but still nodded in agreement, "Indeed bigger than a van... just those tails alone are bigger than a car."

While speaking, the giant Silver White Demon Fox approached with light and graceful steps. She gently touched Yu Sheng's head with her chin, rubbing against it affectionately: "Like this, I can carry quite a few people!"

Yu Sheng fell silent for a moment.

Because the "affectionate and gentle" rub from the giant demon fox nearly made him see stars, almost driving his head into his chest.

"Talk is talk, can you control your strength a bit!" Yu Sheng narrowly avoided passing out, grabbing the fur under the fox's chin to prevent her from rubbing again, "My goodness, banging on top of my head..."

As he spoke, he still felt his head buzzing, the impact of the Fox Deity opening his spiritual awareness lingering for a long time.

Hu Li spared no time in apologizing; she immediately lowered her head: "Sorry, Savior..."

Yu Sheng quickly jumped aside by half a meter, narrowly escaping a blow to the head from the girl's snout as she bowed.

Only then did he have the chance to take a serious look at the demon fox girl's current appearance.

Admittedly, she was truly elegant and truly beautiful. It was the first time he could associate the words "national grace and beauty" with a furry canine animal—he felt more of the demon fox's unique "aura" than her "beauty".

The giant Silver White Demon Fox stood on the earth, golden-red eyes as if brimming with flowing light, with several long tails slowly moving behind her; occasionally, faint specks of Fox Fire would appear in the air like living spirits, encircling and dancing around her tails, dispersing.

Perhaps because she had eaten well these past days and had taken a good bath, her tails looked sleek and shiny—far better than when they first met.

Hu Li crouched down, one of her tails gently resting by her side, and the tip of the tail landed in front of Yu Sheng.

"You can climb up now," she said cheerfully.

"This is really the first time..." Yu Sheng hesitated for a moment but finally stepped on (in fact, because the demon fox's fur was so beautiful right then, he even considered taking off his shoes), "Doesn't this hurt you?"

"I hardly felt it, just a bit ticklish," Hu Li turned her head to see Yu Sheng awkwardly climbing up her tail onto her back, and reminded him, "You can grab the fluff on the side, or else you might slip."

"No worries, I'm quite agile," Yu Sheng, with Erin in tow, made it onto Hu Li's back and then carefully selected a relatively stable spot to sit cross-legged, "I'm settled now."

Fuzzy and very warm.

Yu Sheng touched the fluff around him with a subtle feeling, as if he was sitting on an exceptionally luxurious, soft fur blanket, and before he could even marvel at it, he saw several tails curling around from behind Hu Li to shield him.

Erin poked Yu Sheng's head: "Look, you've even got armrests and a backrest!"

Then she popped another question: "Can we also fit a seat on your shoulders? Even a hard one would do..."

Yu Sheng: "...What do you think?"

"If it's not possible, then it's not."

A slight sway came from below, as the gigantic Silver White Demon Fox slowly stood up and turned towards the distant, continuous mountains.

"We're setting off," for some reason, Hu Li's voice sounded exceptionally happy, "Savior, hold on tight! We're going to start running!"

"I've got a hold..."

Before Yu Sheng could finish his words, he felt a jolt from below, and almost lost his balance—the demon fox had taken off like a shot.

A tail coiled from behind in time to support Yu Sheng and Erin, who were nearly unbalanced, while another tail extended from the side to block the onrushing wind. Amid the intense sensation of being pushed forward, Yu Sheng only saw the scenery on both sides turn into a blur of retreating shadows, and neither the gullies nor ruins on the ground had any effect on Hu Li's ever-increasing speed.

The demon fox was running freely through the vast valley.

"Wahahahaha—" Erin yelled excitedly, gripping Yu Sheng's head tightly while facing the wind blowing through the gaps of the tails (even though it was significantly weakened), and opened her mouth wide, "We-are-about-to-take-off!"

"I love to run!" Hu Li's voice came from the front, full of exuberance, "It's been so long since I've run like this!"

Yu Sheng held tightly to one big fluffy tail beside him with one hand and steadied the little figure on his shoulder with the other to prevent the now excited creature from falling off, "Be careful! Don't hit... Mountain! Mountain! There's a mountain ahead!"

"Okay!"

Hu Li shouted joyfully and then accelerated again toward the gradually approaching slope—clusters of brilliant Fox Fire ignited behind her, forming fiery swarms at the Fox Tails, followed by a series of consecutive and intense explosions. Amid the fierce burning and eruption, they left behind conical trails!

Yu Sheng looked back at the noise, glanced through the gaps in the fox tails, and exclaimed in shock: "Holy shit—Rocket-Propelled Fox!"

He then felt an even more intense push and severe vibration. Despite his current physical condition, he almost lost his breath, only to realize that Hu Li had already charged up the slope.

She did not simply run up.

She practically flew up in an ultra-low terrain-following flight!

In almost a blink of an eye, the rocket-propelled fox had rushed to a spot near the mid-mountain, and her voice, piercing through the fierce wind, reached Yu Sheng and Erin, "It was here that we first heard strange noises. Going further up, we would lose strength and start seeing weird things—we're about to cross it!"

After that, Hu Li charged almost unimpeded through the "waistline of the mountain," which had once halted Immortals, her parents, and all the survivors in her memory.

Nothing was holding her back here anymore.

She could vaguely see the scenery at the summit, the standing boulders on the hilltop appearing like rows of peculiar sentinels under the daylight.

She began to slow down, the Fox Fire at the tails quickly receding, and her agile four paws landed among the rocky terrain, running and steadying herself.

In the final few hundred meters near the summit, Hu Li's speed finally reduced to the equivalent of a brisk jog. After a few leaps between stones, she finally stopped in a relatively open area.

Her several tails slowly unfolded, like opening a cabin, revealing a somewhat dazed Yu Sheng inside.

It took Yu Sheng several seconds to snap back to reality, looking somewhat sluggishly towards the distance.

"Savior," Hu Li's voice reached his ears, "Outside... there are still more mountains, endlessly repeating mountains."
