The Wandering Sword's Apocalypse Event [A litRPG, Progression Fantasy Epic] [Volume 1 finished]

Chapter 80. An Overdue Update

Rafe remembered his first- very fast - and brutal introduction to the multiverse. To magic. Two magical beauties - none jade, that he could remember - had almost taken his head off.

Now he was back in that same dungeon. Like he had some sort of unfinished business. He preferred to be elsewhere though. To be back home on Earth. That had been the plan. To settle down. To process his new reality.

Now that wasn't going to be possible. If he'd understood the conversation he'd woken up to, he had been summoned. To a dungeon of all places.

In truth, Rafe felt tired then. In his mind, he'd gone from a rough battle he'd spent trying to fight a calamity beast while nursing a soul injury, to listening to that lunatical conversation. He had blacked out after the fight, but even after taking a potion specialised to fight it, Rafe felt a bone deep fatigue he could not explain.

He needed to rest a bit before he started thinking about the next steps.

The layout of the dungeon was convenient. As he'd noticed before, there was no sun, yet there was daylight somehow. And there was an open, sprawling world with hills and forests and the whole deal. It looked like a primitive world waiting for settlers and explorers.

The trees looked strange with their almost metallic barks, and shiny. He knew there were a lot of unfamiliar things out in the multiverse.

Being from a young planet like Earth was like being from the boonies. But he was not interested in exploring. Once he found a secure enough cave, he went to rest.

Somewhere in the back of his mind, the safety of the dungeon was suspect. But then he remembered the floating black ball and everything kind of made sense.

There was no way to tell time in this land of perpetual day.

Rafe popped in and out of sleep for a long time. When, finally he woke up, feeling refreshed and in no immediate need of returning to rest, Rafe started to more seriously consider his situation.

He was in an unfamiliar land, and all he had to go on was a strange conversation he'd heard the moment he woke up. He could have been hallucinating. Because he had been very exhausted at the time. And that man. And the, he suspected, dungeon core.

He needed to find them. He was in the dungeon, after all, so at least he could find the dungeon core. Probably. This dungeon seemed like it was as large as an island. He didn't want to think it was as large as a continent. But it was possible. He hadn't seen any kind of edge yet.

And he had an ability that mapped out the places he'd already explored. Maybe he could leverage that. He considered.

Looking at it, he had meandered quite a bit when he was first searching for a shelter. He had been too tired to consider using the ability. He needed to get accustomed to his abilities. Mostly the utility based ones.

There was something else to consider. Liam had once told him he had been marked by some kind of special soul nurturing Essence back on Earth. He would be forced to return once the tutorial began.

Which meant, he hoped, that the tutorial hadn't begun yet. That was the only reasonable explanation for why he was stuck here. In an unfamiliar land. He didn't want to consider any other options.

So, when was the tutorial slated to begin?

This was why he needed his unlikely heroes. He needed information. He didn't know how long he'd ended up staying in the trial in real time. And this system did not come with a convenient time telling feature.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

With a breath, Rafe prepared to look at his status screen once again, finally deciding to tackle another less immediate problem. He had jumped to level eleven, yet he hadn't received any options for a class evolution. At first, he thought maybe as he had been in the middle of a combat situation, he'd receive the options afterwards.

There was no denying it now though, his foundations were more solid than he'd thought. That meant that even without his crippling injury, he'd level slower than the average person. And now with said injury, yeah he was working with a deficit.

And now his class evolutions, which he'd been looking forward to, had to be delayed by a few levels. It was a grating situation. He only hoped his first evolution hadn't jumped all the way to level twenty-five.

Having only two possible evolutions in the F grade would be a worst case scenario. He needed to make it to a rare class before his E grade evolution.

All that said, Rafe wanted, no, needed to have a look at his current status sheet. He needed to know what he was working with. He was in a new world, after all. Meaning new enemies, new quests.

It was interesting to note how his skills had all jumped in the last few fights. Fighting calamity beasts really was something else. Also, a little intimidating, his Swordsman's footwork skill was very close to a supposed upgrade threshold. He needed to start thinking about meditation. He needed to take charge of his soul.

He also looked at the credits at the bottom of his status screen. A convenient calculation at the bottom. If he was seeing it right, then one D grade credit was ten thousand normal credits. That was interesting, because one E grade credit was apparently only ten normal credits.

It was just a bit of fun maths to distract himself though. He wasn't yet aware of the value of having credits on his status screen. He had a few spec points and stat points to distribute though.

He considered, frowning and reading through the screen once again.

That was when he saw it. That was when he saw the last thing he'd expected to see. And he let out a breath he didn't know he was holding.

Secondary Status: Marked for tutorial.

Apparently, it had its own screen in normal mode, but with him simply scrolling through the entirety of his system menu, he'd found it below his skills. He would have never seen it normally. Rafe didn't know the light feeling that took over his chest.

At least he didn't know it at first. But when he thought deeper on it, he was relieved. He had not yet lost his last ticket to returning home.

Estimated time for tutorial commencement: 13 days 16 hours.
