In the end, the mayor had seen the light and surrendered the village to Afilada. The settlement was called Mirfield and was a tier three village. She hadn't had much of a chance to explore what the different tiers meant, but now that she was listed as the owner of the settlement, she had received a message.
It had appeared in the side of her vision as a little blinking box, When she focused on it, words had appeared. It was similar to how notifications worked, but not exactly the same. These seemed to be like a virtual mail system, allowing far off individuals to communicate with each other without the need for a physical letter. The sender was someone called Tutorial Assistant Manager Carl, the name sounded familiar, but she wasn't sure from where.
Congratulations on control of the village and elimination of your rivals. Now that you have successfully completed tier three, and have gained access to the Town Menus, there are some things you need to know…
The rest of the message had outlined how to access the new menus and gave a very brief rundown on what she could do with them. It also informed her that having won the tier, she could now bring in ten people from the previous zone. She passed that decision off to Pierto. She had a general idea of who the strongest people in her army were, what leader wouldn't, but she wasn't sure what the best mix to bring here to help with the town was.
The fact that the village was more than a place to get food and sell things was something else she had learned. The village was vital to the next phase of the tutorial. It would be her base of operations and she needed it as strong as possible. The town was already producing a decent amount of food, but it was mostly grains and vegetables. After sitting down with Sabi as she went through her new options, they had discovered that they now had access to a Network-wide store.
The prices seemed incredibly high, but it had seeds and supplies that they would need to expand the culinary options. It ended up costing most of their gold, but it was worth it. The prices for livestock were simply absurd. They had to exchange most of the common and uncommon class stones that they had looted from their enemies simply to buy a few pigs and a breeding pair of cows.

Once Pierto had finalized his choices of Corellians to activate, Afilada had taken a chance to look them over. It was a decent mix of people who were combat oriented and had some useful secondary skills. This town had a blacksmith, but no one capable of making potions. Afilada had encouraged a few of her soldiers to try and develop the skill in the last tier, knowing that such abilities would come in handy in the future. The lynx woman who had shown the most promise was included as was an orangutan man who had been serving as their quartermaster. The others had a variety of helpful skills like harvesting and mining, while a few more were chosen specifically for their martial talents.
She approved of his choices and willed the selections to the tutorial. She received a notification that these people would appear back at the border of tier two, and she sent Gaso off to bring them back. Say what you will about the cat man, he was fast. He should be able to get to the reinforcements before the day was over, but it would take a little longer for the whole group to make it back.
While Afilada was listed as the owner of the village, Nawog was still the mayor, and Pierto had convinced her to leave the woman in that role. The mayor was still a pain in her backside and was making things more difficult, but she was managing to stay under the threshold for violence. After seeing how complicated the town menus were, she had to agree that her second in command had made the correct suggestion in not killing the woman. Afilada wouldn't have been able to get a fraction of the results that the native could, and it waa going to take a lot of experience before she felt confident in navigating all of the features herself.
An added bonus of keeping Nawog alive was, since Afilada wasn't required for the day to day business of the town, she had more time to train and grow. There were several nests in the area, and she took Forto with her to deal with them. Pierto and Sabi would stay in the town to wait for the arrival of the unlocked recruits, and to keep an eye on things.
