City of Desire [Kingdom Building]

Chapter 760: Death

Tamal Wraithhearth

'Why won't he just die!' I cursed as I poured more mana into the coffin.

I thought it wouldn't take more than ten seconds for me to finish him off, but it had been nearly ten minutes since the spells encased him, and he was still in there.

I am pulling mana from the remaining undead to sustain the spell. The spell is a beast, consuming a massive amount of mana.

I could feel he was injured, but not enough to stop fighting and let the coffin kill him.

He also seemed to have spells that obscured his condition from my view. I could see, but not as clearly as I would have liked.

I fed it more mana and aura; I just stopped limiting and let it take as much as it could.

Right now, I don't care about preserving any. The only thing I care about is killing Silver.

Seconds passed and another, but I still didn't feel Silver's death. Instead, he is defending against my attacks and seems to be getting better.

'Liorian, Yark, come to me,' I said finally.

I wanted them to have already finished off the ones they are fighting, but now I want to take down Silver first. Once we deal with him, we will be able to deal with the others as well.

I kept pouring more mana into the spells, while the battle continued around me and was marked with the awakenings.

I have seen such an awakening only a few times in battles that were fought with desperation. Usually, only one side awakens the aura, but here, both mine and Silver's men are awakening.

Once I take the city, I will give them a choice. To join us or perish, these people are dangerous.

If they won't join, then it's better to finish them off. So, they wouldn't become a threat in the future.

A minute passed, and a frown appeared on my face. Liorian and Yark are still locked in their fights.

'Don't waste time, come here to help me with Silver!' I snapped. 'I am trying, but these bastards are too much!' replied Yark, and I turned to look at him.

A surprise appeared on my face and activated sensory spells, but once more, I failed.

Seeing that, I decided to help them take care of their problems with my staff lighting up in the spell. When, suddenly, I stopped, sensing something.

A moment later, a shock appeared on my face.

Bang!

Six cyan blades struck, blasting the coffin apart and bringing me out onto the battlefield once more.

It was the most powerful attack I had ever made.

I had summoned six aura blades, filled them with the power of the artifact, and the essence to break through one of the strongest Grade V spells of the Necromancer class.

I locked eyes with the Necromancer, who was watching me in shock. "How? You shouldn't have been able to do that?" he asked.

I didn't reply. In less than two seconds, the spells would activate. Stone had already sent the message to everyone to use their full power, the moment they felt the change.

"You might have survived the coffin, you bastard, but don't think you will survive the battle!" He roared angrily, and his staff lit up.

The spells materialized the next moment.

Twelve spears burning in a grey flame came at me. Given that there are barely five meters of distance in front of me, they appeared in front of me in an instant.

There was barely a meter of distance between us when six cyan blades materialized, while my own blade moved toward them.

The shield would have been much easier and would have caused much less pain, but I need to keep moving toward it. My control and comprehension of aura methods had improved tremendously in the past few minutes, but not enough to move the shield with that level of flexibility.

Rip Rip Rip!

My aura blades and sword tore through the flaming spears, while a more profound shock appeared in his eyes.

'Activating!'

He opened his mouth when Caena's voice rang out in my mind, and her spell was finally activated.

He sensed it immediately, and I felt frozen, before his eyes widened like never before.

Tamal Wraithhearth

"Witchcraft!" I voiced out loud as I felt it

The power of it is subtle, but gripping, covering every bit of my body and my very soul. It had covered not only me but the whole army.

Everything and everyone got affected by it. There is nothing and no one that is spared.

'Such power; there is definitely a coven. A powerful one at that,' said Liorion. I could feel heaviness in his voice and a hint of fear; that man rarely fears things, but this is worthy to be feared.

We have seen the terror of witchcraft, and it is one of the things we have been warned to be extremely careful of.

I could feel the power of the spell. Powered by a Great Witch, along with a coven, as support, or there is no way it would cover the whole horde.

We knew he had a powerful witch or shaman with him, who specializes in souls.

He had captured souls of our people before, and we had been careful, but never in our wildest dreams had we expected it would be a Great Witch.

'We should retreat; the enemy has prepared for every step. I fear that if we stayed longer, the losses would become even greater,' advised Liorian.

"No," I rejected immediately.

I would not retreat, even if it were a Great Witch acting. There is too much at stake to retreat right now. I have already lost the horde, and if I lose this battle now, I will lose everything.

My position, my privileges, and even this very artifact, I am holding in my hand.

Though the first thing I have to do is find out what the hell this spell does, before I move to counter it.

I attacked. I didn't cast the spell, but used the spell that is stored in my artifact.

The moment, I did. My expressions changed drastically.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

'It is weakening our attacks,' Yark's voice rang out. He didn't have to tell me; I could feel it. My spell lost a third of its power the moment it materialized.

'It is affecting skills as well?' I asked. 'Yes!' multiple replies rang out in my ear.

A witchcraft spell that affects both spells and skills. They are extremely rare, and only a few Great Witches could cast the spells of such complexity, even with the coven.

Rip!

His blade ripped through the Bone Harpoon, shrinking the distance between us to just three meters.

It is too dam close!

I sent another group of Dead Flame Spears at him that were stored in my staff to slow him, before casting defensive spells. I had defensive spells stored in the staff, but I had used them all to defend against the alchfire.

I had time to store more defensive spells in my staff, but I thought I would have more time.

Marrow Bulwark!

It was less than two meters ahead of me, and he was moving his sword to strike me, when the spell appeared. A wall of thick crystalline bone appeared in front of me.

With that, I moved my horse. I need to create as much distance as possible.

I can't let him get close to me; I shouldn't have gone so close, but I thought his death was inevitable, with the Coffin.

'Fuck!' I cursed when I noticed that even my horse was moving slower than usual. It is a construct of bones, operated by my spells and skills, which affected it as well.

Bam!

I was trying to move it faster when the Marrow Bulwark exploded into pieces, and I saw him riding toward me with lightning covering his horse's feet denser than I have seen in the battle.

Immediately, I attacked, and this time, I didn't hold back. I released spells as fast as I could.

Pushing as much aura into them as I could, I could at the same time cast another defensive spell.

I had also called for Yark and Liorian to abandon everything and come to me. Also commanded my special undead, blasting one, so the other two will come to me.

The explosion rang out, but my undead didn't come. Silver's men are stopping them.

Liorian is right. Silver had made preparations for everything, and it is all coming together. It is shocking, but it has also raised many questions in my mind.

I pushed them all away. Once I deal with him, I will have ample time to investigate everything.

Rip Rip Rip!

My spells went toward him, but aura blades kept materializing at shocking speeds, tearing through one spell after another. They seemed to have become more powerful, especially that sword.

Bang!

Another Marrow Bulwark appeared, but just as it did. It was blasted apart, and I saw aura blades coming toward me.

Seeing them, thoughts of retreat appeared in my heart, but I pushed them away.

I could see Silver's state, and it is bad. He is bleeding from every part of him. His clothes are bloody with cuts all over, with blood coming out of the orifices.

He won't be able to keep pushing himself for long. Soon, he won't be able to, and I will use that chance to kill him.

I want to kill him. Now, I am even more sure than ever that alive, he will cause us a lot of trouble. I must deal with him now, and I am going to.

Though first, I will have to deal with those aura blades. My aura roared, and I moved to deal with them when suddenly, a powerful suppression came down on me out of nowhere.

Silver

I used my last card; my legacy. I brought down the complete suppression of the Throne on him.

I had held back this card. I wanted to use it many times, but I held back for the right time, and this is the right time.

Clang Clang Bang!

He defended against my aura blades, but one was able to slip through and cut through his bone horse.

It didn't destroy the horse, but slowed it down, and I moved to catch up when another Marrow Bulwark appeared in front of me.

Bang!

Three aura blades materialized and pierced it, destroying it, before I moved ahead. Only to see, sharp bones covering the area in front of me.

Rip Rip Rip!

Aura blades appeared and cut through them like a lawnmower.

"Faster!" I commanded, and lightning blazed densely under my mount's feet. It is angry at the undead; I am not the only one cut bloody and raw by the Necromancer, the horse was too.

Bang!

I rode faster, and another Marrow Bulwark appeared. Giving me a fraction of a second, which was enough, for the aura blades to appear and destroy his spells.

More of them appeared and destroyed the spells coming at me, along with one by my sword.

I am destroying everything he is throwing at me. He is throwing a lot. Despite being a great mage, he couldn't cast this fast on his own; it is that artifact that could store spells.

More came and were destroyed, but they are slowing me down, and I have to catch him quickly.

We have reached the edge of the battlefield, and he is still running forward. If he crosses the boundary, he will be out of the domain of the legacy, and it will be very hard to kill him then.

"Silver, surrender, and I promise you. I will spare you and everyone else, including your army," he said, and as he launched a new group of spells toward me.

"Too late for that," I said, and summoned twelve blades of aura. That effort made me feel like I would die.

It is actually too late. If he had offered this in the first battle or the second battle, I would have accepted it, but now, there is no way I would.

Rip Bang Rip!

I ripped through the spells and destroyed another Marrow Bulwark. I was expecting another group of spells, but there was only a single spell coming at me.

"I will retreat. Call off the battle, and I will retreat with my horde!" he said. "No," I replied simply and destroyed the spells and Marrow Shield after, before appearing beside him.

"You have made a mistake, Silver!" he said with an angry grin, and suddenly, I got a very bad feeling.

Tamal Wraithhearth

Things have changed so suddenly in the past few seconds. From being confident of my total victory to fighting for my very survival.

I became merciful and offered to spare him and everyone, but he refused. Leaving me no choice but to use my final trump card.

The staff has many abilities, including enhancing the power of the spells.

There is one specific ability. That strengthens, further than that. It only works once, but it makes it very powerful.

I brought out that spell and strengthened it further with my aura method. Pushing every bit of aura into it. I didn't think about what I would do later.

I never put myself in such conditions as even allies are enemies, but right now, I have no choice.

I have to kill him or he will kill me.

Silver

A spindle materialised in front of its staff.

It is not big, the size of a palm actually, and looked like a delicate piece of art rather than the most dangerous spell, I had sensed from him.

Deathbone Spindle.

Like Dymiran's Coffin, it is one of the most dangerous Grade V spells. We didn't even know; he knew it.

Unlike a coffin that could be used on a group of people. This is the single-target spell. It will only focus on me, and nothing else; not those behind me and around me.

There was only a meter distance between us. So, in front of me, it teleported while my sword moved toward it.

I didn't hold back anything. Pushed every bit of aura and emotion essence I could into the blade, my skills. Strengthening them, like I had never done.

Feeling the power of it. I know, I need it, and I am going to give it all.

Clang!

My blade crashed against the attack, and great power travelled through my arm, damaging my bones.

The spindle had stopped my sword and was pushing against me. I could feel it's getting powerful, and I wouldn't be able to last long.

I pushed more aura into the blade, but that seemed to have barely any effect as it pushed my arm back, damaging more of my bones and giving me torturous pain.

'I have to cut through it!' I thought, but no matter how much I pushed. It didn't seem to have any effect.

I looked at the blade. It is the only thing that could save me.

So, I focused on it. Focused on that power, melded on the blade. Concentrated it, but it's hard. I already did everything I could and made remarkable progress, but I need more.

"You should have accepted my offer, Silver. Now there is only one end," he cursed, voice filled with tiredness but also with confident relief.

"Not only for you, but also for your army, your family, your people, and your whores. I am going to turn them into undead, and I will start with your little sister!" he added gleefully.

Hearing that, anger like never before rose in my heart, and I focused harder, with the idea becoming clearer than it had ever been before.

At that moment, the blade hummed, and I felt the change from it. The first ability of the artifact had been imprinted in it.

I would have liked to do it sitting in the hall with my mind clear and focused on the blade and nothing else, but there is no choice.

Rip!

The power of the blade flooded into the ability, and it began to rip through the spindle, while collapsing its structure as it does.

I could see the unmitigated shock appearing in his eyes before it turned to horror.

My blade cut through the spindle, and it didn't stop. It kept moving toward the Necromancer.

Pachac!

"Silver, I surren…" his words were cut as my blade cut through his neck. His soul tried to escape, but my blade went for it, and the spell of Caena that prepared for the Necromancer.

We want to kill him thoroughly and not allow him to come back as a lich.

It was then that the power of Vris'alud descended with such weight that it nearly froze me, but before it could rescue Tamal's soul, multiple forces countered that power. They came from the empire, but some also from Mayhurst Island itself.

I had informed them that I plan to kill him.

Though they didn't believe me when I told them I planned to kill the lich, I am glad they were ready.

One thing that surprised me was the power coming from the merchant state.

'It seemed like the cap on the level is true,' I thought. My contacts informed me that there is a restriction in the contract about the level of people who can enter the region from Vris'alud.

No one of Lv. 50 and above is allowed.

They didn't personally enter, but their power did. I wonder what kind of language they used in the contract that let them do this.

The merchants wouldn't have taken the action if they were not sure; they wouldn't have done this if they weren't sure that it wouldn't break their contract with Vris'alud.

"No!" his soul screamed as my blade and spell severed through his soul before the planet absorbed pieces of it.

At first, we wanted to trap it, like we did with others, but it was too risky. So, we move to destroying it and scavenging, whatever might be left.

It is not the only thing I took. I also took his staff; there are restrictions on it, but I suppressed them with the power of my legacy. If that power had touched it along with the soul, we wouldn't have been able to.

"Retreat!"

I had just taken the staff when the loud call to retreat rang from the undead.
