"Fine. I'll sign," Adrian said in a steady voice.
Abyss's eyes gleamed with satisfaction, and she pressed closer, her lips curling into a dangerous smile. "Oh, Adrian… you won't regret this." She held his gaze as she whispered, "Now, want to sign it here?"
Adrian felt the weight of Abyss's gaze as she leaned in, her words still lingering in the air. The contract pulsed with dark energy in his hands, but the idea of signing it here, having a BDSM session with her here… the location wasn't suitable.
Plus he knows someone who would want to join in the fun… Lilith.
"We'll sign it when we're out of here," he said, rolling the scroll back up and tucking it away.
Abyss's brow arched, a playful smirk teasing the corner of her lips. "Afraid I'll change the terms?"
Adrian shook his head. "No, just prefer a suitable environment. How do you plan to get us out of here?"
Abyss looked around, her purple eyes glinting as she surveyed the vast abyss that surrounded them. "How did you even get in here in the first place?" she asked curiously.
Adrian grimaced, recalling the nightmarish experience of swinging across the endless void, narrowly avoiding falling into what seemed like an infinite pit. "Trust me," he said dryly, "it's an experience you wouldn't want to go through."
Abyss chuckled. Her laugh was rich and melodious, but there was a dangerous edge to it. "Well, we don't need to do things the hard way."
With a wave of her hand, the air around them shimmered, and suddenly, the abyss below began to stir. Adrian watched, his eyes widening in surprise, as shadows materialized in the darkness.
Figures began to take form—ghostly, translucent spirits of the dead, their eyes hollow and glowing faintly. They rose from the abyss, their hands reaching upward, forming a bridge of bodies, linking arms and legs to create a living chain across the void.
The spirits moved in perfect unison, their bodies weaving together into a spectral ladder that stretched across the chasm. It was eerie and beautiful all at once, their pale forms glowing faintly in the darkness.
Abyss turned to Adrian, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction. "Shall we?"
Adrian nodded, trying not to let his awe show.
He had seen power before, but this—summoning the dead with such ease—it was on another level entirely. Together, they stepped onto the ghostly path, the spirits beneath them holding firm as they crossed the abyss.
The air was cold, and the silence was unnerving, but Abyss's presence beside him gave him an odd sense of security.
As they crossed, Adrian's mind drifted to the contract again. The power she had offered was incredible, dominion over life and death itself. But the price—what she seemed to be expecting—she wanted more than just a champion. She wanted him, completely.
After what felt like an eternity, they reached the other side. The tunnel where Adrian had entered stretched out before them, and he quickened his pace, his thoughts turning to Selene.
He had left her behind, injured and barely conscious. She had been exposed to the venom of the manticore, and even though she had seemed stable when he left, there was no telling how much time she had left.
As they entered the tunnel, Adrian spotted Selene slumped against the wall where he had left her. She was pale, her breathing shallow, and her body was dripping with sweat. Without hesitation, Adrian rushed to her side and knelt down, cradling her in his arms.
"Selene…" he murmured, his voice tight with worry. Her chest rose and fell in shallow, uneven breaths. She was alive, but just barely.
Abyss stood behind him, watching silently for a moment with an unreadable expression. But as Adrian gently lifted Selene into his arms, carrying her in a bridal style, something shifted in Abyss's demeanor. Her possessive gaze darkened, and she took a step forward.
"Why are you carrying her?" Abyss asked, her voice laced with jealousy.
"Uhm… she's injured, obviously." Adrian replied matter of factly.
"No… You should be carrying me."
Adrian turned to face Abyss, his brows furrowing. "Abyss, Selene is hurt. She's been poisoned, and she can't walk on her own. I have to help her."
Abyss's lips twisted into a pout, her eyes narrowing as she crossed her arms over her chest. "But what about me?" she said, her tone bordering on petulant. "I should be the one in your arms. Why does she get all the attention?"
Adrian blinked, caught off guard by the sudden shift in Abyss's attitude.
Her obsession was surfacing, and it was clear that she wasn't used to sharing his attention, even for a moment. He had to tread carefully.
"Abyss," he began, keeping his tone calm, "Selene can't make it on her own. I'll carry her until she's safe."
But Abyss wasn't satisfied.
She stepped closer, her fingers grazing Adrian's arm as her eyes locked onto his. "You don't need to carry her," she whispered. "I can heal her. She can walk on her own, and you can carry me."
Adrian hesitated, studying her for a moment. He could see the possessiveness in her gaze, the way her eyes flicked to Selene with barely contained jealousy. Abyss didn't want to share him.
Not now, not ever.
But he also knew that Abyss's power could help Selene—if she was willing.
"Can you heal her?" Adrian asked in a measured tone.
Abyss's lips curved into a triumphant smile. "Of course," she purred, her hand already reaching out toward Selene. "I can make her walk again. She'll be just fine."
Without waiting for permission, Abyss knelt beside Selene and placed her hand over the priestess's chest. A faint purple glow emanated from her fingers, and Adrian watched as Selene's breathing began to steady.
Her face regained some of its color, and the tension in her muscles eased.
After a moment, Selene's eyes fluttered open, and she blinked up at Adrian in confusion. "Lord Adrian…" she whispered, her voice weak but clearer than before. "What… what happened?"
Adrian let out a breath of relief, lowering her gently to the ground. "You're okay now," he said softly. "Abyss healed you."
Selene looked past Adrian, her eyes landing on Abyss for the first time. Her gaze was filled with awe and fear as she took in the goddess's imposing figure.
Abyss stood and stepped back, satisfaction glinting in her purple eyes. "Now," she said with a sultry smile, "you don't need to worry about her anymore, do you?"
Adrian glanced at Abyss, then back at Selene. The priestess was still too weak to fully comprehend the situation, but she would survive. He stood, offering his hand to help her up. "Can you walk?"
Selene nodded, her legs trembling slightly as she stood, but she was able to walk on her own now.
"Good," Abyss said, her voice smooth and commanding. "Now, Adrian…" She stepped closer, her eyes gleaming with possessiveness. "You can carry me."
Adrian sighed inwardly. Abyss's obsession was growing stronger with every moment, but he knew he had to manage it carefully. "You're fine," he said gently. "You don't need to be carried."
Abyss pouted again, her fingers tracing along his arm. "But I want to be," she whispered in a low and seductive voice. "You said you'd take care of me, didn't you?"
Adrian clenched his jaw, resisting the pull of her influence. "We're all getting out of here together," he said firmly. "Let's focus on that."
