Adrian stiffened as the man knelt before them. The phrase, "Praise be to the goddess within," echoed in his mind as he exchanged a bewildered look with Lilith and Medea.
His heart raced slightly, caught off-guard by the sudden display of devotion.
"They can tell you two are goddesses?" Adrian whispered, glancing between the kneeling man and his companions.
Lilith, however, looked delighted, her eyes gleaming with amusement as more people gathered around them, some bowing and murmuring similar praises.
Her lips curled into a playful smirk, clearly enjoying the attention. "Well, darling," she purred, flipping her hair back, "it seems we've stumbled upon a group with excellent taste."
Medea, on the other hand, was less amused.
Her dark eyes narrowed with suspicion as she observed the growing crowd. "This doesn't feel right," she muttered, her hand still hovering near the hilt of her sword.
Before they could say more, a woman dressed in simple but elegant robes approached them. She looked calm, but her eyes sparkled with the same zeal as the man on the ground. She bowed her head slightly in greeting.
"Welcome, travellers," she said softly, her voice filled with awe. "I am Selene, a priestess of the Church of Adonitology. We are honoured by your presence."
"Adonitology?" Adrian repeated, his brow furrowing. "What exactly is that?"
Selene smiled warmly, her gaze shifting between Lilith and Medea. "We are Adonitologists. We worship the divine gift and endowment of curvy, big women, especially their noticeable behinds. We believe they hold a divine power, a connection to the goddess within."
Adrian blinked, his confusion deepening. "So… you're saying you worship big asses?"
Selene didn't miss a beat, nodding graciously. "If you put it that way, yes. We believe that such beauty and form are divine blessings, and we offer our worship to honour them."
Lilith burst into laughter, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Oh, darling, I like these people!" She threw a playful wink at Selene. "Finally, someone with the right priorities."
Medea, however, remained as stoic as ever, her arms crossed over her chest. "This seems... ridiculous," she muttered, her dark eyes scanning the crowd. "You worship a woman's body instead of her strength?"
Selene, though, was undeterred by Medea's skepticism. She shook her head with a soft smile. "We honour all aspects of the divine feminine, but we believe the curves are an outward expression of the goddess's power. It's a sacred."
Adrian quickly reached into Lilith's pouch and retrieved the leaflet she had picked up earlier. As he unfolded it and scanned the words, everything seemed as Selene had said.
The leaflet described the Church of Adonitology, a movement dedicated to the worship of women with big and curvy asses. The image on the leaflet he had barely paid attention to was enough emphasis on their 'idol of worship'.
There was even mention of a special service being held in the town that evening.
Adrian blinked at the leaflet, trying to make sense of it. "You've got to be kidding me," he muttered under his breath, glancing at Lilith, whose grin had only grown wider.
"Sounds like my kind of worship," Lilith teased, striking a pose that emphasized her curves even more, drawing murmurs of approval from the crowd.
Selene smiled gently, clearly mistaking Lilith's playful stance for some divine display of grace. "It would be an honour for us to welcome such esteemed guests to our temple. The Church would be overjoyed to have you attend our service tonight."
Adrian felt a growing sense of discomfort. "Look, we're just passing through," he began, folding the leaflet and trying to find a way to refuse politely.
But Lilith interrupted him, stepping forward with an exaggerated sway in her hips. "Oh, darling, don't be so quick to turn down an invitation. This sounds like fun," she said with a mischievous voice. She turned to the priestess, her smile as radiant as ever. "Tell me more about this service of yours."
Selene's eyes lit up with enthusiasm. "Tonight, we celebrate the power and beauty of the goddess within all women. Our service is a time of reflection, praise, and worship. Your presence, as true manifestations of divinity, would be a blessing.
Medea, who had been silent until now, raised an eyebrow. "This all seems rather... convenient," she said in a guarded tone. "Why are they so convinced we're goddesses?"
"Can you blame them?" Lilith purred, winking at Medea. "Look at us."
Adrian, meanwhile, wasn't sure what to make of the whole situation. He could understand the attraction they might have towards them, but the thought of being mistaken for deities by a religious sect that worshipped curvaceous women seemed absurd.
He folded the leaflet again, tucking it into his pocket. "Thank you for the invitation, but we really need to find a place to rest for the night."
Selene looked slightly disappointed but remained gracious. "Of course, my Lord. We can arrange accommodations for you if you wish. The temple has rooms prepared for honoured guests."
Adrian hesitated, not wanting to be indebted to the church or draw any more attention.
But before he could speak, Lilith sidled up to him, her arm slipping through his as she whispered, "Why not? It's free, and you won't find a better place to stay in this backwater town."
Adrian sighed, realizing he was outnumbered. "Fine. We'll stay for the night."
Selene's smile returned, bright and eager. "Excellent. Please, follow me. I'll take you to the temple."
Adrian, still holding the folded leaflet in his hand, excused himself with a polite nod to Selene. "Give us a moment," he said, turning to Lilith and Medea.
He gently but firmly led them to a quieter corner, away from the curious eyes of the gathered crowd.
Once they were out of earshot, Adrian let out an exasperated sigh, his eyes locking onto Lilith's. "Look, I know you're having fun with all of this, but we can't just go along with every invitation we get. This isn't a game."
Lilith pouted, her bottom lip jutting out dramatically as she folded her arms. "Oh, darling. What's the harm in staying a night in a temple dedicated to appreciating my... assets?" She gestured to herself with a playful grin, clearly still enjoying the attention.
Adrian wasn't in the mood to joke.
His tone was firm but not harsh. "You're free to suggest things, Lilith, but the final decisions are mine to make. You can't just agree to things blindly." His gaze softened slightly as he added, "I'm responsible for all of us, and I won't risk our safety just for a good time."
Lilith's pout deepened, but she quickly relented, the teasing glint in her eyes fading slightly. "Alright, alright," she said with a sigh, raising her hands in mock surrender. "I get it. I'm sorry, darling. I didn't mean to overstep." She leaned in, her lips curling into a small smile. "But you have to admit, the idea of a temple worshipping my curves is a bit too tempting to pass up."
Adrian shook his head, though the tension in his shoulders eased a little. "We'll go," he said cautiously. "But just for the night. And I want you both on your guard."
Medea, who had been silently watching the exchange with a slightly raised eyebrow, nodded. "Always," she replied in her usual cold and focused voice.
Adrian nodded in agreement. "Good. We don't know these people or what their real intentions are. Stay sharp."
As the conversation wrapped up, they heard Selene's voice calling from where the crowd still waited. "Are you ready, my Lord and Ladies? The temple is not far from here."
Adrian glanced at Lilith and Medea before answering. "Yes, we're coming."
