Chapter 8. Big Goblins
In the pitch-black primeval forest, the sudden appearance of a campfire was obviously an extraordinary thing.
And if there was a small tent made of branches next to that fire, along with three Big Goblins scratching their feet, it looked even stranger.
From within a clump of bushes about twenty meters from the fire, two white, rabbit-ear-like twin tails suddenly appeared.
Chen Zixuan was observing from the shadows. When she spotted those three Big Goblins, she had already confirmed that this was indeed the monster lair the Guard Captain had described.
Big Goblins—as the name implied, they were simply bigger goblins. They stood around 1.8 meters tall with strong, sturdy builds, about as massive as three regular goblins combined.
With their greater size, the clubs they wielded were triple the usual size, stained with dark red blood, making them appear extremely formidable.
Yet, their reactions seemed a bit slow; even at such a close distance, they hadn't noticed Chen Zixuan secretly observing them.
"Not going to be easy..."
Chen Zixuan slowly withdrew behind the bushes, brows furrowed as she pondered her next step.
According to the official game guide, Big Goblins appeared as elite monsters. Normally, only densely populated goblin regions would ever have a single one.
But this mission required her to eliminate three Big Goblins at once—it was clear the system placed high expectations on her.
In the monster archive, the Big Goblin was listed with the following details:Big Goblin, Elite Monster.
Level: 5
Attack: 40
Physical Defense: 10
HP: 150
Racial Skill: [Hooah!], can throw its club with immense force, dealing double attack power as physical damage and inducing a 1-second stun to the first unit hit within a 20-meter straight line.
High attack, thick health bar, and such an outrageous skill—Chen Zixuan knew she would have to tread very carefully.
Her HP was a whopping 200, and her agility was also over 200, but if she accidentally got hit by a Big Goblin's skill, the 1-second stun would definitely leave her open to the next two attacks.
40 x 2 x 3 = 240. After factoring in her physical defense, Chen Zixuan would still take 201 total damage—just enough to kill her from full health in a second.
No matter how she looked at it, it reeked of a system conspiracy!
"With just a normal rookie weapon, there's no way I can solo this dungeon now."
Chen Zixuan opened her equipment tab, swapped to the [Executioner] dagger she had drawn from the lottery, and noticed her personal attack stat rise to 53. With 5 points of armor penetration, that meant she now effectively wielded 58 attack.
"I'll use a skill to take out one instantly, then finish off the other two with three attacks each!"
With strategy mapped out in her mind, a fierce glint of battle intent burst in the silver-haired girl's eyes.
After all, they were elite monsters; the rewards for killing them would definitely be generous!
No more hesitation!
Leaping from behind the bushes, the petite silver-haired girl swung her dagger in a half-arc, sending a silver streak flying straight at the nearest Big Goblin!
Epic purple skill—Silverflash Pierce!
The Big Goblin hadn't even reacted before the silver light pierced its skull, spilling a splash of bright red blood!
Floating above its head appeared massive white characters: -212!
Bang!
Its health bar instantly emptied, and its massive body crashed to the ground beside the fire.
This startled the remaining two Big Goblins, who scrambled to their feet and triggered the heroic battle music!
With a flick of her wrist, the dagger Chen Zixuan had just thrown was instantly gripped in her palm again.
Now that she'd blown her cover, she had no plans to keep hiding.
She dashed toward the remaining two Big Goblins, weaving in a zigzag pattern as she tried to dodge the Big Goblin's skill—[Hooah!]
As expected, one Big Goblin was the first to activate its skill. It raised its club high and opened its mouth, revealing a mouthful of fangs:"Hooah!"
With that beastly roar, the club spun through the air toward the silver-haired girl, whistling as it cut the wind!
A perfect chance—dodge!
A victorious smile appeared at the corner of Chen Zixuan's mouth as she lightly leaped to the right.
Thud—a dull impact, bullseye!
The flying club struck the silver-haired girl square on the forehead, her eyes turning into 〉 〈 shapes; she took 67 physical damage and suffered a one-second stun.
She stood dazed on the spot, as if struck stupid, her mind probably filled with only three questions:
Who am I? Where am I? Where am I going?
"Perfect!"
Miss System was not stingy with her praise for the Big Goblin, delivering another heavy blow to Chen Zixuan's young heart.
"Hooah!"
Another beastly roar resounded. Chen Zixuan had just recovered from the stun, her vision still blurred and unfocused, only to see another club hurtling straight at her.
Crap!
With another dull thud, the girl fell back onto the ground, her eyes now turning into @ @ shapes, hp plummeting to less than half.
This was a dangerously low value—if she hadn't taken out one goblin instantly at the start, she probably would already be soaking in the hot spring at the rookie village.
The death penalty in "Legend of Karolan" was severe: not only would you lose half the coins in your bag, you could even drop your equipment for good.
"Wuhu! Wuhu!"
Seeing the girl fall, the two Big Goblins burst into excited howls, like middle-aged women rushing toward a supermarket sale, charging at her aggressively!
After a second, the stun wore off!
The silver-haired girl flipped up, leaping lightly backwards to dodge the first goblin's pounce—at the same time driving her dagger into its neck.
[Dagger/Shortblade Mastery] activated! A vital strike increases damage twofold!
-101!
The Big Goblin let out a pained roar, reaching up to pull out the dagger stuck in its neck, but the girl was quicker.
She drew the blade out, slicing the trachea, dealing a secondary blow!
-75!
The Big Goblin crashed to the ground.
Chen Zixuan was stunned for a moment, finally realizing that the game's damage calculations weren't as simple as she had once believed.
Meanwhile, her own health bar also bounced up by great amounts with the two attacks.
+20! +15!
Two green numbers popped up!
The vampire prince's passive skill, [Blood Banquet], activated, instantly bringing Chen Zixuan's HP from below 50% to a relatively healthy value.
When she saw the numbers at the start, Chen Zixuan hadn't really appreciated the true power of this hidden class.
She had only thought her starting stats were a little high, and, thanks to her exceptional luck, she drew blue equipment and purple skills at the beginning, resulting in this overwhelming combat power.
Only now, after this high-difficulty skirmish, did she realize just how ridiculously strong the skills of the [Vampire Prince] profession were.
According to the official stats, at the beginning of the game, a single Big Goblin elite could easily beat up several level 3 players.
But now, at just level 2, she could already handle three at once.
If such a class existed in any other game, it would probably never make it out of beta, right?
