Regarding the construction of the entire Longke Chemical Plant, Luo Fei had many questions in his mind, but he didn't voice them out since it wasn't his responsibility!

However, the top priority now is to check the office of the project manager.

As the one with the highest rank among the nine missing people in the chemical plant, there must be some clues hidden here.

Luo Fei and Zhou Fan went up first, while the others inspected the surrounding accessible areas.

As soon as they walked upstairs, the smell hit them instantly.

"Since the chemical workshop area lies between the office area and the main entrance, one has to cross it to get through. If that's the case, then the mysteriously vanished people have nowhere else to go."

With this thought, Luo Fei glanced at Zhou Fan beside him.

"Team Leader Zhou, what did your investigation reveal about the missing persons' family situation?"

"All showed they hadn't returned home, because there's employee accommodation here, most of them didn't go back, except on weekends. They basically stayed in the chemical plant, as evidenced by surveillance around their home addresses."

Upon hearing this, Luo Fei's eyes shifted slightly. If that was the case, things might get tricky.

Since none had gone out, the chemical plant was the last place they were seen.

If they truly disappeared here, then there's a big issue at hand.

"Team Leader Luo, could it be that the plant manager and the materials supervisor reported falsely? When we investigated from multiple angles, they appeared truthful. Although they cooperated well during the investigation, I still have some suspicions."

Luo Fei shook his head with a smile.

Things are never as simple as they appear on the surface. If two people report an incident together, it indicates they must have discussed it after discovery.

So as long as one of them is deceptive, the other becomes an accomplice.

They don't need to both lie; if one has a motive, the other will naturally act as a corroborating witness, which is very clear in forensic science.

"Nine people aren't a small matter..."

Zhou Fan couldn't help but lament.

"We investigated for a month, the criminal investigation team was troubled, and there was pressure from above. In the end, we had no choice but to give up."

As they spoke, they arrived at the project manager's office on the third floor, where a cleaning lady was waiting.

Since the disappearance, this place has been sealed.

Luo Fei pointed at the door in front.

"Let's look at the project manager's office first."

Ms. Zhang swiftly opened the door, and the two of them walked in.

As soon as they entered, Luo Fei's face showed a hint of surprise. This place was entirely different from the external environment, and the chemical smell was very thin. It seemed the project manager's office had little contact with the chemical workshop.

Inside was a standard set of office equipment and displays.

"We only took some reports and documents placed here at the time. They were the project manager's reports to the higher-ups and his demands on the subordinates. Though not much, they showed the manager was quite concerned."

"That's right, Manager Ning was very mindful of these issues and used to visit the workshop often. Later he was busy with external deals and didn't go much, but he knew this place very well."

"The plant manager often praised him for handling things excellently."

Luo Fei nodded, it was clear they had a good evaluation of this project manager.

At this point, Zhou Fan leaned closer, whispering in a low voice only audible to them.

"Luo Fei, do you think this manager might have a facade of gold but inside is a mess, with his own dirty business, and then covered it up before finding a way to flee?"

"It's unlikely, he couldn't escape from this plant; the surrounding surveillance didn't capture him."

"Maybe he hid somewhere and found the chance to slip away."

Zhou Fan voiced his doubts with relief.

Luo Fei looked at him appreciatively.

"Although the idea is good, what about the finances and the seven missing workshop employees? Did they all get involved too? Allowing only one person to escape seems inappropriate."

"That's true..."

Zhou Fan chuckled.

"Speaking of which, why didn't you report it back then? Bold speculation about the existing situation is actually a virtue."
