Surgery Godfather

Chapter 1233: Vague and Unclear

"Such a luxurious ward must be pricey?" The old man didn't believe the doctor and nurse standing nearby.

This elder, now over ninety years old, had spent his earlier years conducting research in the western regions. Having retired many years ago, he was now scheduled for a health examination at Sanbo Hospital. Seeing such a lavish hospital room made him uncomfortable; he felt it was extravagant. Even when undergoing checkups in Beijing, he had refused to stay in special hospital rooms.

As the doctor and nurse were about to explain further, Dean Xia and Yang Ping happened to enter and overheard the conversation. Dean Xia immediately gestured for the doctor and nurse to stop talking, knowing that the more they explained, the more it would upset the old man.

The older generation's mindset differs from the young. They lived through hardships and developed habits of thriftiness, so they naturally feel out of place in luxurious hospital rooms.

Dean Xia explained, "Sir, the conditions here are indeed good. But it's not just these rooms; our hospital's regular wards are also quite nice. I'd be happy to show you around when we have the time."

"Hmm!"

After Dean Xia's words, the old man's displeasure faded a bit.

This elderly gentleman had heart issues and coronary artery stenosis. Due to various reasons, a heart stent wasn't quite suitable for him. He planned to have a coronary bypass surgery after his medical examination this time.

After comforting the gentleman, Dean Xia and Yang Ping visited each ward to meet the elders, communicating and understanding their needs and ensuring nothing was overlooked.

The medical examination was taken very seriously at all levels. Dean Xia had pushed aside all other work to focus on organizing it. Yang Ping, the leading expert of the examination team, personally oversaw the medical technology aspects of the checkups.

The other elders settled in, needing rest as the schedule was tight with examinations starting the next day.

The next day, the examinations proceeded orderly.

Yang Ping personally followed up with the elders' examination team, meticulously reviewing the results of each test. Most of the elders' health conditions were better than expected, possibly due to their calm lifestyle and open-mindedness.

A few elders had minor health issues needing attention. One required a coronary artery bypass, and another had a small tumor that, given its slow growth rate, would take about twenty years to impact health visibly. Since the elder was already nearing ninety, the tumor required no treatment. Another elder had a thyroid tumor, also a slow-growing "lazy cancer," requiring no action.

Overall, there were very few issues needing addressing. These elders were generally optimistic, which contributed to their good health, reassuring Yang Ping.

The coronary bypass surgery for the elder needing it was performed by Yang Ping personally as the chief surgeon. The surgery was very successful, resolving long-standing health issues.

After finishing the medical examination work for the elders, Dean Xia also planned to visit Nandu Affiliated Hospital One. With Dean Zou now heading it, Nandu Affiliated Hospital One was one of the best-managed affiliated hospitals. Dean Xia wanted to explore and learn from them.

The System Space, although restored, was no longer as user-friendly as before. Now it was merely a portable space with fast time flow and access to an almost unlimited amount of books and papers for reference, plus a huge laboratory for conducting experiments.

However, the points reward system had been suspended for a long time, though it wasn't much of an issue. The remaining points were still sufficient to purchase some laboratory equipment, but eventually, they would run out.

Let the points run out then. Just being able to utilize the System Space's time and knowledge was already enough. Yang Ping wasn't greedy. Even without the System Space's help for quite a while, he had managed to develop K Therapy.

Thus, the system was merely a tool, not something one should rely on completely. Dependence on it would suppress one's creativity, which is the key to solving research challenges.

Yang Ping arrived at the laboratory where everyone was discussing the challenges encountered in experiments. Several new PhDs felt troubled, unsure of where to start and having only a vague understanding of the next research phase.

"Professor, I feel like I know nothing. What I've learned before seems useless."

One PhD shared his concerns, likely reflecting the thoughts of many.

"Frontier research is about tackling unknown problems, naturally making it unclear and uncertain. If it were already clear, what would there be left to research? Scientific inquiry is exploratory work, akin to venturing into an uncharted primitive forest, where no one has set foot, where familiar tools fail us. This calls for us to carve our own path," Yang Ping explained to the PhDs.

Education teaches most people to be cautious, avoid mistakes, listen to authorities, and not to make decisions ourselves. While this has its benefits, such as guiding youth along established paths and avoiding trial-and-error;\

it also brings issues, as it leads young individuals to stick to traditions. Fear of exploration and mistakes results in a lack of imaginative creativity and a reluctance to challenge established knowledge, fostering an excessive fear of authority, which hampers original scientific innovation.

"Do not fear, do not bind your hands and feet, but bravely try, explore, and think freely. Fear not failure, nor ridicule, for this is the path to innovation. In science, we must be truthful; no authority is beyond challenge. And if you fail, so what? Just start again," Yang Ping encouraged everyone, hoping they would bravely explore.

After hearing Yang Ping's words, everyone looked at each other, as few "bosses" encourage such risk-taking.

Especially the new PhDs, who had never heard Yang Ping say such things before. Now, they wondered if his words were genuine or just for show.

After all, as graduate students, they had heard similar sentiments plenty like when mentors say mistakes can be pointed out boldly, yet doing so and causing embarrassment may lead to dire implications. Or when they hear one can imagine freely, only to be sharply rebuked for unrealistic ideas. Or when told to prioritize health, yet when struggling and wanting a break, facing disapproval.

Thus, whether Professor Yang's words were truly to be taken to heart required careful consideration. Being new, they weren't familiar with him yet. Some words are just for listening, while others are for action, and it's crucial to discern between them.

External rumors are just "personas," and personas differ from reality.
