The horseback ride lasted for half an hour, and finally, signs of human habitation appeared within sight in the distance, with houses hidden among lush ancient trees. As far as one could see, there were no buildings over ten stories, and the most eye-catching were two similarly styled spire buildings.
The two buildings retained the most primitive Gothic style, standing opposite each other like two giants guarding Holy Spirit Town compared to the other relatively low houses.
Xiao Manxue noticed Lin Tian staring at the two buildings and explained, "That's the town's central square. The buildings belong to the Knight Academy and the Female College, respectively, with the square as their boundary, they stand opposite each other."
"Am I seeing things? Is there really smoke rising from a town chimney?" Lin Tian pointed to a faint wisp of smoke in the distance, surprised.
What is chimney smoke? It's something that occurs when wood is burned in a kitchen. This is unimaginable in our country, even in rural areas it's rare to see smoke rising from the chimney. Everywhere uses modern appliances or natural gas. Not to mention towns, where visible smoke would make people think there was a fire.
"Holy Spirit Town retains a more original ancient appearance. But regardless of how isolated it may be, it still has modern transportation, and both the internet and electricity are available," Xiao Manxue replied.
"Then I'd like to see it for myself." Lin Tian said with a smile, then sped up, quickly entering the boundaries of Holy Spirit Town.
The town was indeed ancient. Old cobblestone paths, streets paved with square stones, honey-colored walls covered with unknown flower vines, tall ancient trees growing among the houses, the whole scene was full of flavor, clean and cozy.
The attire of the town's residents was modern, and they weren't surprised to see Lin Tian riding a horse. Instead, they were curious about his outsider identity. Such a semi-isolated town rarely had any visitors.
But they were only curious and didn't stop them, and Lin Tian's group soon reached the town's central square.
Though it's called a square, it's not very big, slightly smaller than a football field. The two schools stand at opposite ends of the square.
Xiao Manxue led Lin Tian's group towards the school on the right, but a young man stopped them at the gate.
Rossi saw these young men, his expression changed, and he quickly rode over to Lin Tian, whispering, "Brother Tian, they are Guardians."
"How do you know they are Guardians?" Lin Tianqi asked, puzzled. Although the Knight Academy was right in front of them, it was unlikely that everyone they met was a Guardian. They might just be young people from the town.
"I encountered this group yesterday. I overheard their conversation while following them. The tallest one, wearing a vest, is their deputy leader, seemingly called Carter," Rossi explained softly.
Lin Tian raised an eyebrow, thinking to himself how coincidental this was. However, they hadn't seen Rossi's face, so Lin Tian wasn't afraid they would recognize him. He gestured subtly to Rossi to remain calm.
"Who are you? Why have you come here?" Deputy Captain Carter asked in English, though his gaze wandered, scanning Xiao Manxue and Secretary Xu without restraint.
Indeed, Guardians are human too. They have thoughts about beauties and, because of their superior abilities, they act even more unrestrained and arrogant.
"Since when do people from the Knight Academy take on guard duty at the Royal Women's College? If you're bored, go train. What's the point of blocking the gate?" Xiao Manxue sat on horseback, looking down at the group in front of her, speaking with directness.
Lin Tian looked closely and noticed that on their clothes, whether vests or other attire, there was a stitched emblem of a knight on horseback, holding a lance in a charging stance—probably the Knight Academy's crest.
Lin Tian could guess why these students were blocking the gate of the Female College—no need to say it, their target was the female students inside, trying to flirt.
The Knight Academy wasn't strictly all male, but girls were certainly rare. It was a case of many wolves and little prey. Undoubtedly, they would shift their focus to the Female College.
Lin Tian said placidly, "Miss, need it be said? They're blocking the gate simply for the beauties inside the Female College."
He spoke in English, which they clearly understood. The group was obviously hit by Lin Tian's words, their expressions slightly awkward, though they quickly turned to glare angrily at Lin Tian.
"Who are you? Since when can an outsider interfere with the Knight Academy's affairs?" Carter sneered, glancing at Lin Tian.
"Move aside," Xiao Manxue pulled out a badge and waved it in front of the group.
Carter and his team saw it and their expressions turned conflicted, because it was the emblem of the Royal Women's College, yet they were puzzled since they hadn't seen it before.
Xiao Manxue and Secretary Xu dismounted and entered. Lin Tian and Rossi also dismounted, but before they could follow, Carter's group blocked their way.
"She belongs to the Female College and can go in. You two can't," Carter said contemptuously, blocking Lin Tian and Rossi.
But in his mind, he was thinking, I've been mixing in the Knight Academy for so long without entering the Female College, yet you—a mere outsider—expect to get in? I'm here trying to flirt, and if I can't get in, neither should anyone else.
Lin Tian said indifferently, "The eight virtues of a knight are Humility, Honor, Sacrifice, Valor, Mercy, Honesty, Justice, and Soul, yet I see none of these in you. Is this what the Knight Academy, with its lineage from King Arthur, teaches? Knights? Hunters? More like a gang of ruffians and a flirtation squad."
Disappointed, Lin Tian felt let down by the so-called Knight Academy. These students, supposedly Guardians, instead of training, were loitering around the Female College. If King Arthur and the Twelve Knights of the Round Table knew, they'd probably be furious enough to crawl up from Hell to reprimand these descendants.
"You can't insult the spirit of knighthood, nor can you insult the Knight Academy!" Carter shouted in anger, and his team glared at Lin Tian, ready to rush up to teach him a lesson.
Knowing how to be angry is proof they haven't completely rotted, but Lin Tian plainly said, "It's not I who insult the spirit of knighthood, it's you. The spirit of knighthood isn't for others to admire or just to mention, but a creed that every knight should uphold. Do you deserve this creed?"
"Duel, outsider, I challenge you to a duel. Once I have you underfoot, you'll know whether I deserve it!" Carter was infuriated, shouting loudly.
The central square of Holy Spirit Town wasn't very large, but Carter's voice was, drawing students from both the Female College and the Knight Academy. A crowd quickly gathered at the Female College's entrance.
