Fury Immortal Doctor

Chapter 576: The Delighted Dean

Looking at Shen Qiang's smile, Doctor Pan became desperate and pleaded, "Shen Qiang, I know I was wrong." Seeing that Shen Qiang did nothing but smile without any indication, he turned to the beautiful teacher Ju Yang and said, "Ju Yang, I was wrong. I'm a bastard, I'm scum, please talk to him, ask the patients to stay."

"If they all get discharged, two-thirds of the hospital beds will be empty!" Doctor Pan said anxiously, "That would make me look incompetent."

Ju Yang looked at him coldly and said, "You told me before that if I came to ask you for a favor again, I would have to strip naked and walk into your office. The moment I heard that, I no longer recognized you. Patients have the right to choose the doctor they trust."

"Clearly, between you, a Top Ten Outstanding Young Doctor of the province, and the ordinary Doctor Shen Qiang, they have already made their choice. Now, you're pretending to be pathetic in front of me, it's useless. You can talk to the patients' families. If you can persuade them, that will be much more effective than begging me or Shen Qiang."

Hearing this, Doctor Pan went pale.

He looked at the people gathering around to handle the discharge procedures, his mouth moved as if he wanted to say something.

But the family members of these young patients were becoming impatient.

"Hurry up and process my child's discharge, we've already spent tens of thousands."

"Exactly, my child has also cost us over a hundred thousand."

"Process it quickly, don't dawdle. We adults and children have all suffered, and work has been exhausting. Just do it immediately."

Doctor Pan's face was ashen.

Keep in mind, among these young patients in the pediatric gastroenterology department, more than two-thirds have issues related to lactose intolerance.

If they all leave,

not only will the hospital beds be empty, the hospital will lose income, and as the attending physician, he will become a laughingstock.

But clearly, because of his earlier remarks, too sharp and harsh, teacher Ju Yang was no longer willing to forgive him, and Shen Qiang was not spoiling him at all, so now, there was nothing he could do but proceed with the discharge.

And it was almost at this moment, amid the footsteps from the ground floor, an elderly man's voice rose above the clamoring for discharge.

"Everyone, please be quiet for a moment. I am Du Chengkang, the director of the Medical University Affiliated Maternal and Child Health Hospital. I already have a basic understanding of everyone's situation. Now, please listen to what I have to say, alright?"

"The director?" Doctor Pan's eyes brightened.

But then, he saw that the director didn't even glance at him and instead, smiled and nodded at the beautiful teacher Ju Yang, and even smiled appreciatively at Shen Qiang.

"We want to be discharged; even if you are the director, you can't force us to stay."

"Exactly, it's a matter of a few minutes to handle this, who would be brain-dead enough to stay in the hospital?"

In the voices of the crowd, Director Du Chengkang said, "Everyone, please calm down. I understand your feelings, and moreover, I just carefully reviewed Doctor Shen's reports on the new Thermophilic Streptococcus tests, and I'm quite sure that there's nothing wrong with Doctor Shen's medicine."

"Then what are we waiting for? Hurry up and handle our discharge."

"Right, we can't wait any longer!"

Director Du Chengkang frowned and said, "The situation is this, all drugs in the world are not perfect; they all have some issues, one way or another. That's why many drugs need to go through clinical validation and undergo thorough testing to ensure they are completely safe before they can go to market."

Dean Du Chengkang looked at Shen Qiang with appreciation and said excitedly, "Shen Qiang, Doctor Shen's research results are quite astounding and effective, beyond the expectations of many. Personally, I have immense admiration for him and absolutely trust the efficacy of his medication."

"However, there's a risk in everything, and there's always a chance of the unexpected," Dean Du Chengkang said gravely. "If you take your children straight home from the hospital, you wouldn't be able to handle any emergencies that might occur."

"So, I personally think it might be better to do this: since you've agreed to Shen Qiang's new drug, you could sign a volunteer agreement. Then, your child can continue to stay in the hospital to receive treatment from Doctor Shen Qiang with the new drug."

"The hospital will stop administering medication and only conduct observations, charging only thirty yuan per day for a bed."

"In this case, if there are no problems, you can observe for one or two days and then take your baby home with peace of mind. If an issue does arise, we have doctors and nurses here who can provide emergency care immediately. This should be the safest course of action for everyone."

Seeing the families quietly contemplating, Dean Du Chengkang smiled at Shen Qiang and said, "I think Doctor Shen Qiang would also agree with this suggestion."

Shen Qiang heard this and smiled. Seeing that all the patient's families were looking at him, he couldn't help but smile and say, "Dean Du is right, you'd be safer and more at ease here. I believe everyone can accept the bed charge of thirty yuan per day without medication, right?"

The crowd nodded in agreement.

"Since Doctor Shen agrees, then, of course, there are no problems."

"Yes, as long as Doctor Shen is treating, we don't necessarily have to leave."

"Indeed, the child is safer here."

Seeing everyone agreeing, Dean Du asked an older doctor to go to the doctor's duty room to help the families fill out the volunteer agreements.

Shen Qiang's eyes lit up at this scene.

This volunteer agreement was essentially a declaration of consent which broadly stated that the patients were aware the medication they would be using was in the developmental stage and might have some unclear side effects. Should any adverse consequences occur, the patient would bear the responsibility themselves.

This was a good thing because even though Shen Qiang was confident that his Thermophilic Streptococcus had no issues, he couldn't guarantee there wouldn't be any individuals looking to exploit the situation. Once they signed the agreement, they would no longer have the opportunity to cause trouble.

So in a sense, by doing this, Dean Du was helping Shen Qiang.

"Dean, this is unreasonable. Shen Qiang's drug has not received formal approval and cannot enter clinical trials. As the chief physician, I refuse to allow my patients to use Shen Qiang's new drug and become volunteers," Doctor Pan said urgently.

Dean Du laughed, "Who said his new drug hasn't been approved? Just because you haven't seen the documentation left by Professor Ju Yang doesn't mean others haven't. Just because you don't want to do it, doesn't mean others don't either."

Having said that, ignoring Doctor Pan's pale face, Dean Du looked at Shen Qiang with a smile and approval. "You're younger and more excellent than I imagined. I've shown your new drug documentation to the head of the Drug Administration. He's quite optimistic about it, has personally approved the clinical application, and even issued a registration number. The relevant paperwork will be available next Monday."

Seeing Shen Qiang's elated expression, Dean Du smiled and said, "So, Doctor Shen, I am now formally proposing a collaboration with your new drug on behalf of the Medical University Affiliated Maternal and Child Hospital. I suppose you won't refuse, right?"

Shen Qiang responded joyfully, "Of course, I won't refuse."

Dean Du laughed, "Then good, we'll sign a nice agreement in a bit, and after that, this place will be the designated clinical trial base for your new drug. If you need an office, I can arrange one for you."

Hearing this, Shen Qiang's eyes sparkled. With a hint of mockery in his gaze, he glanced at Doctor Pan and smiled, "I really like Doctor Pan's office; would there be any problem if I used it?"

Dean Du laughed loudly, "Of course not, someone like you deserves it. Not just Doctor Pan's office, but even mine would be absolutely no problem at all."
