The Young Urban Doctor

Chapter 088 A Man with a Story

The two chatted playfully as they slowly walked forward.

When they arrived at several buildings and saw people taking photos, Luo Ziling suddenly felt a bit emotional and said to Yang Qingyin with a smile, "Senior Sister, I only learned about the Summer Palace and its related history from books. I thought I knew this place quite well, but after entering, I realized I know almost nothing about it. Could you tell me about the garden?"

When he visited a place, he didn't like to do what everyone else did—just stand in front of attractions to take photos to mark his visit.

He preferred to immerse himself completely, understanding the history of the attractions and then slowly savoring their charm during his visit.

In fact, he wasn't truly ignorant of the history of the Summer Palace; he just wanted to hear Yang Qingyin talk about it.

Yang Qingyin, of course, didn't know Luo Ziling's real thoughts, but she was more than happy to talk about it.

"Then I'll show off a bit of what I know about the Summer Palace," Yang Qingyin readily agreed but then reminded him with a caution, "If I don't do well, you're not allowed to make fun of me."

"You will definitely do well," Luo Ziling chuckled, then pointed to a small shop not far away, "Let's go there later to buy some food, find a spot to sit down, and while eating, I can listen to your stories. How about that?"

"I want ice cream. How about you treat me to some?"

Seeing Yang Qingyin's coquettish manner as she spoke, how could Luo Ziling possibly refuse? He agreed without hesitation.

But after agreeing, he added, "Actually, you should eat less of these cold foods and more warm, nourishing things."

"Eating a little occasionally should be okay, right? Or, if you think there is something better for me to eat, please treat me to that, okay?"

Luo Ziling agreed once again, "Of course, no problem. Let's go then, and you can talk as we walk."

Yang Qingyin immediately smiled happily.

If others saw this, they would definitely be astonished once again.

When had Yang Qingyin ever been willing to accept things bought for her by someone else?

Let alone food!

For her to take the initiative to ask a guy to treat her to something was completely unprecedented.

Of course, Luo Ziling didn't realize that he was enjoying a treatment no one else had ever experienced; he took it all for granted.

"The Summer Palace was initially built in the late reign of Emperor Kangxi and reached its peak during the reign of Emperor Yongzheng. The entire complex consisted of the Summer Palace, Changchun Garden, and Wanchun Garden," Yang Qingyin began to narrate the history associated with the Summer Palace as she walked alongside Luo Ziling, fulfilling his request.

Luo Ziling listened attentively, interjecting from time to time.

Thanks to Yang Qingyin's narration, Luo Ziling learned even more about the Summer Palace.

Standing in the garden, listening to a beautiful woman who knew her history and scenery, Luo Ziling felt it was one of life's great pleasures.

Actually, there was no need to wander everywhere; simply walking slowly with Yang Qingyin, chatting with her and talking about the history and knowledge related to the sights, was already the greatest enjoyment of sightseeing.

Luo Ziling believed in a saying, that what satisfies you during a trip is not the scenery, but the person you are with.

He felt that no matter where he went with Yang Qingyin, his mood and feelings would definitely be wonderful.

"In the northern part of Changchun Garden, a section of European-style garden architecture was introduced, commonly known as 'Western-style Mansions'. It consists of more than ten buildings and gardens including Haiyan Hall, Great Fountain, Watching Fountain, Linear Method Hill, and Linear Method Wall. After the Second Opium War in 1860, the British-French Allied Forces looted the Summer Palace, and the treasures were plundered. During Emperor Tongzhi's reign, there was an attempt to restore it, but due to financial difficulties, the restoration was stopped and other constructions were made. After the Eight-Nation Alliance, it was again robbed by bandits and ultimately became a pile of ruins. Those ruins are still there, and they are the main attractions promoted by your Summer Palace." When she said this, Yang Qingyin turned her head to look at Luo Ziling and smiled knowingly before adding, "How about we just go there today, and leave the other places for another time?"

As Yang Qingyin suggested visiting other attractions another time, Luo Ziling could not have been happier and agreed immediately.

As the two quickened their pace toward the "Western-style Mansions" area, Luo Ziling said, "Senior, your knowledge of history is really rich. Hearing you talk about so many historical snippets, you truly are a brilliant history student!"

"I'll take your compliment as it is," she said.

"I wasn't complimenting you, I was simply stating a fact."

"Actually, I don't really like my major," Yang Qingyin confessed with a slight sigh.

Luo Ziling read something unusual from her sigh and slightly furrowed brows, and couldn't help but ask softly, "Wasn't your major chosen by you?"

"It's not important anymore, what's important is that I'm already a sophomore," Yang Qingyin said, then flashed a slight smile and asked Luo Ziling, "With your medical skills being so impressive, why did you still choose to study medicine?"

"My grandfather chose it for me. Actually, I'm quite puzzled too. Logically, if Grandpa had me study medicine, it should have been traditional Chinese medicine since most of what he taught me is related to that field," Luo Ziling said, then smiled sheepishly. "Actually, like you said, what you study in college might not be very important. My grandfather probably just wanted to send me to university, regardless of what I learn."

He then couldn't help but boast a little, "Hehe, my grandfather surely wouldn't let me study Chinese medicine because he said that I could teach those professors at the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine."

"Are you boasting through your grandfather's mouth?"

"Do I need to boast?"

"Who knows!" Yang Qingyin pouted playfully and said with a laugh, "But I do believe that your medical skills are good. The diagnosis and treatment you performed for me were very accurate and appropriate."

"Then you can treat me to a meal sometime to say thanks," Luo Ziling grinned, and his smile was a bit cheeky.

"Since today you're treating me, I'll treat you next time," Yang Qingyin agreed without hesitation, and then curiously asked, "Why was your choice of major decided by your grandfather? What about your parents?"

The moment Yang Qingyin asked about his parents, the smile on Luo Ziling's face faded, and after a slight sigh, he said, "I've been raised by my grandfather since I was little, I have never seen my parents."

These words made Yang Qingyin's heart sink abruptly, and she instantly regretted asking the question, quickly said with embarrassment, "Sorry, I..."

"It's okay," Luo Ziling interrupted Yang Qingyin, "My parents are still around, I've just never met them."

This revelation shocked Yang Qingyin even more. She suddenly felt that this seemingly shy but actually quite spirited young man surely had an intriguing story behind him. However, she didn't dare to pry.
