The Bodyguard King’s CEO Wife

Chapter 958: Cornering

After hanging up the call, Ye Shikai looked at the car in front of him again. Although he didn't know which spoiled rich kid it was, it didn't matter. Ye Shikai was determined to overtake it.

Meanwhile, the three cars behind him were also stepping on the gas, unwilling to let go as they tailed Ye Shikai's rear. Being overtaken on a curve was too humiliating for them. As spoiled rich kids, face was everything to them, and now on a straight, they relied on the power of their modified cars to overtake again.

Ahead was a sharp 150-degree turn. Instead of slowing down, Ye Shikai accelerated into the curve, hugging the inner path, preemptively drifting and forcing the car into the turn through inertia. This action tested skill and required courage. If you failed the drift, at best you'd stop on the bend; at worst, you'd fly off the cliff, resulting in a total wreck and death.

It must be said, Ye Shikai's move was nearly perfect. Be it in technique or mentality, he had no flaws, much like a seasoned race veteran, but in reality, he wasn't even fond of street racing. He had only played a few times occasionally.

If one had to find a reason for Ye Shikai's superb skill, it might be talent.

The straight was shortening, and the three cars behind had already lost the chance to overtake. If their skills were any worse, they might even be overtaken by the cars further behind.

"There's still a third of the race to go, and Jack remains in first place. Can our racing god overtake at the last moment? Everyone, cheer for the racing god." The host shouted into the microphone to the audience below, who immediately erupted in cheers. The distance between the first and second was only half a car length, and it was still uncertain who would claim victory.

Ye Shikai floored the accelerator and quickly caught up with third place. However, the car ahead seemed not very "friendly." Ye Shikai wanted to overtake from the side but was blocked by that car. Yet, this driver's skill was evidently higher, at least in drifting, he was almost flawless. However, his vehicle was heavier than Ye Shikai's, which meant that though he wouldn't err in maneuvering, his entry into curves wouldn't be as agile or smooth. Ye Shikai needed to seize this opportunity to overtake him.

Due to inertia, the car ahead would visibly slow down on bends, yet it still occupied the inner lane. So this time, Ye Shikai could only overtake from the outer lane.

Overtaking from the outer lane was much harder. Unlike the inner lane, the outer lane was longer, and there was a barrier right beside, so a slight misstep could result in a crash. As the other slowed down, Ye Shikai accelerated, reducing the distance between them. Assessing the space, Ye Shikai sharply turned the wheel, and the two cars almost drifted into the bend side by side, but one was on the inside and the other on the outside.

"Car number 8 has overtaken again. Now he's in third place. I think there's another contender for the champion," the host excitedly said. At this rate, Ye Shikai would soon catch up to the two cars ahead in the final sequence of eight turns, leading to a three-car battle.

"Yo, uncle, I didn't expect you to catch up." Han Ruoyao said through the rear-view mirror, watching as a silver Lamborghini approached — Ye Shikai's ride.

"I said before, it was just for fun with those kids behind." Ye Shikai teased. Jack clearly realized the dark horse contestant who caught him off guard, realizing it wasn't just a race with the racing god but with someone equally strong.

"That guy named Jack seems pretty strong. Do you need my help?"

"No problem, let me handle it." Han Ruoyao refused Ye Shikai's offer, showing her stubbornness.

"Alright, I'll overtake him at the next sequence of eight turns." Ye Shikai gradually closed the gap. Jack seemed to feel the pressure, floored the accelerator, and the professional engine roared as the car sped forward. Ye Shikai hadn't expected Jack to reserve speed or maybe he really was pushed to his limit. With a curve ahead, maintaining such speed could lead to trouble.

"Yaoyao, seems you've got him on the edge." Ye Shikai remarked.

"No, I think it's you, uncle, who pushed him. This guy is a thug, he even tried to hit on me before. He needs a lesson." Han Ruoyao coldly responded. Ye Shikai understood; it seemed Jack's expensive car would remain in Yanjing.

"Yaoyao, stay close behind me. Let's take the opportunity at the fifth curve." Ye Shikai understood the track quite well, especially the minor details often overlooked. The fifth was a sharp 180-degree turn with a wider track, presenting an excellent opportunity.

Passing several bends, the gap between Ye Shikai, Han Ruoyao, and Jack narrowed significantly, almost touching tail.

"Yaoyao, come behind me, close in." Ye Shikai instructed over the earpiece.

"Alright, uncle." Han Ruoyao slowed down, letting Ye Shikai go ahead, then tightly followed the Lamborghini's rear.

"What, the racing god slowed down, now in third place. I really want to see who this number 8 car driver is that could overtake our racing god." the host exclaimed, and the audience began to marvel. Judging by the previous maneuvers, the racing god seemed to have done it intentionally.

"Yaoyao, stay close, I'm about to drift." Approaching the fifth curve, Ye Shikai felt some tension. If he messed up this time, there'd be no chance left.

"Got it, I've been ready."

Ye Shikai accelerated sharply. Professional drivers instinctively leave some space entering a curve, and Ye Shikai seized the moment Jack moved, taking the inner lane, effectively forcing Jack out.

"Now's the time!" Ye Shikai sharply turned the wheel, and Han Ruoyao instantly reacted. The two cars tightly overtook from the inside lane. At their closest, they were only twenty centimeters apart, a slight miscalculation and they'd collide.

"What, I can hardly believe my eyes! Car number 8 and the racing god both overtook Jack on the inner lane. Now car number 8 is first, and the racing god second." In a blink, the positions of the three cars changed, leaving everyone stunned.

"Haha, uncle, we did it."

"Alright, go straight to the finish line, I'll keep Jack at bay."
