"The rules are simple in this. The teams will consist of two fighters. One boy and one girl.
"There will only be one fighter from each team in the ring at times. The teams can change fighters a total of three times during one match.
"If either of the fighters is defeated during the match, their team will lose."
The physical education teacher said.
With a smile, Cleo excitedly said.
"I think this is good for us. I will try my best to defeat one of their fighters, but I am sure they will change their fighters often when going against me.
"When I become slightly fatigued, it will be your turn, Jock, and all you have to do is to not lose. Try to waste time so I can recover as much as possible.
"When our opponents have wasted all their changing fighters, I will do my absolute best to defeat them once and for all."
Jock listened to her excitedly speaking. He liked when she was so excited and smiling from ear to ear.
It made her look very cute, Jock thought.
"The first match of the day is between Chizuru and Adrik, going against Caitlin and Peter. Take your places by the ring, please."
The physical education teacher said.
He was also acting as referee for the matches, as he was the strongest teacher of Montrael middle school.
"Cleo, I wish you luck in your match."
At that moment, Lumian walked over to them. Della was walking behind him, looking down at Cleo with an arrogant look.
She was from a wealthy family, owners of Bushido Den, which was a powerful four-star dojo, and thus, she thought of herself as better than Cleo.
It was because Cleo's family were just business owners. In the field of martial arts, Della's family was way superior.
"Thank you, Lumian."
Cleo said with a smile.
She was ignoring Della, as she believed that she was just trying to pick a fight, and there were several reasons why she was doing it.
Della had a big crush on Lumian. It had lasted since their kindergarten days. He had ignored her advances so far.
It was because Della had a hunch that Lumian was into Cleo or something like that, which just made her extremely bitter.
"Good luck to you as well, Jock."
Lumian looked at the shy-looking boy and gave him a gentle pat on the shoulder. Jock shook under the pat.
"And do not forget, this is team competition. You have a role to play, and so does your partner, Cleo. Teamwork can defeat stronger opponents."
He said, then bade his farewell to the two, and headed back to their seats to discuss their upcoming match, as they were participating in the second match.
"…"
With tight lips, Jock watched them walk away, and he whispered.
"He is rather nice…"
"Yes, he is. Back in the dojo, he is always guiding those younger than him and spending his valuable training hours to help them."
Cleo said with a smile.
At that moment, the bell rang, and the first match started in the ring.
It was between Chizuru and Peter. It started with both of them throwing punches. The physical Peter took advantage with his iron fists.
Chizuru was fast. A track-and-field athlete. She dodged Peter's punches effortlessly, making him look slow and clumsy.
After a minute of throwing punches, Peter was already quite winded, and their team made a drastic decision to change fighters.
When Peter jumped out of the ring, Caitlin jumped to replace him and pushed Chizuru to the corner with her low kicks and sharp hooks.
Caitlin was rather skilled. The kicks were aimed at Chizuru's legs. It was to get rid of her speed early on.
'Speed is important. I am not fast. I am quite sluggish. Whenever we had track and field during physical education lessons, I was always last when we ran.
'Sure, I was unawakened when everyone else was awakened, which played a part in that, but even during the first year of middle school, when nobody was really awakened, I was still always last.'
Jock thought to himself worryingly.
The climbing exercises he did over in the Martial Redemption dojo helped him to get some arm strength and toughened some of his skin.
It also helped him to gain some upper body strength, but now that he thought about it, it seemed quite useless for this competition.
The rope jumping, on the other hand, was something he needed, and he should've done it way more frequently to improve his agility and endurance.
The rope jumping helped to improve his cardiovascular endurance and helped him to build his footwork and coordination.
It also helped him to enhance his speed and explosiveness.
That training he understood, but the climbing the rope? He couldn't quite understand the point of that.
In the ring, Chizuru was so badly pushed into the ropes that they decided to change their fighter.
With a quick leap, Chizuru jumped out, and her partner, Adrik, took the stance. His punches were explosive.
Caitlin was pushed back, but she was smiling, and then she surprisingly changed places with Peter.
"Hahaha!"
Peter rushed in, rejuvenated, and landed a devastating blow to Adrik's chin. It rocked his head back like a punching bag.
With a loud thump, Adrik crumbled to the ground. The countdown started. His partner, Chizuru, tried shouting at him to get back up.
However, Adrik was out cold.
"The winner is Caitlin and Peter!"
The physical education teacher shouted, and the two of them cheered loudly in triumph, hugging with smiles on their faces.
"Chizuru was counter to Peter. Caitlin was counter to Chizuru. Adrik was counter to Caitlin. Peter was counter to Adrik."
Cleo said with a giggle.
"Good teamwork from Caitlin and Peter. They always wanted Peter to go against Adrik, as they know that Peter is stronger than him because of their physical difference.
"I think Peter and Adrik are decent friends too, and Peter knew that Adrik might hesitate for a moment when facing him.
"He took that one moment of hesitation to end the fight."
Jock said.
"Oh…"
Cleo looked at him, impressed, as she never took him as someone with such a great analytical mind.
Seeing her look, Jock turned quite shy and awkwardly scratched the back of his head.
"That's what I think, at least."
"Hehe, I think you are correct."
Cleo said with a giggle.
