"…?"
Kiernan slowly opened his eyes.
The bright light blinded him temporarily, but after a while, he adjusted and could see the room clearly.
He was standing on a white carpet with walls painted a soft shade of blue. It looked like a throne room.
The ceiling was high up and had sky-painted ceiling windows. Or maybe it was an actual sky. It was hard to tell since the sky shouldn't be that low.
'What is this sweet smell?'
Kiernan's nose was suddenly tickled with the sweetest smell he had ever come across, and he then turned his gaze to the throne.
There was a woman sitting on a throne. A veiled woman. She was donning a white silk dress and had a body that people would kill for.
Huge breasts. Long legs that jutted out of the dress. Long golden hair that cascaded down her back.
It wasn't possible to see her face because of the veil, but it was easy to guess that she must be so beautiful that mortal men would kill for her.
"Kiernan… Hunter… Kiernan… Hunter…"
The Fair One, the Goddess of the Elves, echoed his name. Her voice was like a melody, soft and delicate.
She then motioned with her finger for him to come closer, drawing him in with her enchanting presence.
He walked forward, as if he was under a spell, unable to resist her call, and stopped in front of the steps that led to the throne.
'She is Goddess indeed. I can feel it in my bones that she can turn me into ashes whenever she wants to.'
Kiernan thought.
He was wondering why the Goddess herself wanted to meet him, and if she wanted to kill him because of the reincarnation, she could do it easily.
"…I have chosen you to be my… champion…"
She said.
"…Champion?"
Kiernan asked with surprise.
"A Feast of the Gods will be happening in a week's time. It is a once-in-a-millennium event, and it concludes with the Battle of the Champions.
"Every God will send their champion to fight, and I've chosen you to be my champion for that event."
The Fair One said with a smile behind the veil.
"…I don't think I am in any state to fight for you, your holiness."
Kiernan said.
"That shan't be a problem."
The Fair One just waved her hand, and the martial soul, which was broken beyond repair, was now floating in front of her.
The million shattered pieces merged together seamlessly. The martial soul was back whole. It then started floating back to Kiernan.
It went through his chest and appeared back in its rightful place.
'…The martial soul is fixed? Just like that?'
Kiernan thought in shock.
It shouldn't surprise him that it was so easy for a godly being to fix something that wasn't possible by mortals.
"If you win the Feast of the Gods for me, I'll let you keep the martial soul."
The Fair One said.
"…If I lose, you'll take this martial soul away from me again?"
Kiernan asked with a frown.
"Yes, I can't give the martial soul back to you for free."
The Fair One said.
"…I'll do my best, then."
Kiernan said with a serious look.
"You are more famous than you think. The Gods are warring over you, just for your information."
"Warring over me? Why?"
Kiernan asked with a frown.
"The Great Robber… Most of the Heavens want you gone, but there is another side that thinks you are the Destined One.
"That you are destined to bring Mercedes Rosburg down before she becomes too strong even for Gods to handle.
"I am part of the latter.
"There is a risk, of course, for you to come to the Feast of the Gods. All the Gods will be there, even those who hate you, and Death will be there."
The Fair One said.
"…Then, why me? Why do you want me to be your champion?"
Kiernan asked.
"Because you are the only mortal with courage to face them all. You can win the Battle of the Champions and show them all who you really are.
"You aren't just fighting for me. You're fighting for yourself. If you truly deserve the gift of rebirth."
The Fair One said with a deep look.
"…Alright."
Kiernan nodded his head and firmly clenched his fists tightly.
"You will be under my protection over there, but it doesn't mean that the gods won't try something, so you must be prepared for everything.
"I have already given a word to Lucky—the human male you came with—and told him you'll be gone for a little while.
"Are you ready to go?"
The Fair One asked.
"Go where?"
Kiernan asked.
"Heavens, of course."
The Fair One said.
Kiernan's eyes rounded in surprise, as he didn't expect them to go right away, but he then took a deep breath and nodded.
"I am ready."
Snap!
In that moment, the Fair One snapped her fingers, and bright golden light engulfed the two of them.
…
Golden skies stretched beyond the horizon, and the cloudy ground beneath everyone's feet was as solid as real ground.
Winged men and women roamed around the streets, and white-marbled buildings towered high around them.
"…"
In that moment, the Fair One and Kiernan appeared in the street, as if they appeared out of thin air.
Her pointy ears peeked out from under the veil, and the winged angels took notice of her and bowed with respect.
"…Goddess."
"…The Fair One…"
It didn't seem like it was the first time that they had come across a Goddess before, and it wasn't surprising.
Even now, there were Gods and Goddesses roaming around the streets just like ordinary people would.
"…So many angels."
Kiernan whispered.
"These angels used to be mortals of the realms before. They lived a good life, and received a gift of heavenship, and became angels of the City of Gods."
The Fair One said.
"Oh…"
Kiernan said in awe and followed behind her as she headed towards her very own place in the City of Gods.
Every God and Goddess had their own place in the City of Gods, as it was basically their home, after all.
They arrived at a three-story inn-like building—it still looked very nice—but Kiernan thought it was rather humble for Goddess like her.
It was just another not-so-special building in this street with dozens of similar buildings, but when they entered the building, her opinion changed.
The space inside the building was massive. Each floor was the size of a football field. It was like the space was stretching endlessly.
It was a small building from the outside, but there was something strange going on around these buildings that made them much bigger on the inside.
"…Goddess!"
In that moment, the angel elves greeted their goddess with reverence, and they were all former citizens of the Martial Arts World.
When they died after living a good life, they became angels of the Heavens and decided to follow their Goddess, Fair One, even in here.
"Hello."
The Fair One smiled at them warmly, and they then caught sight of Kiernan.
"…Is he the Fair One's champion…?"
"…Yes, he is…"
"…Don't you guys know who he is…? That's the Kiernan Hunter… I went last week to a sermon where one of the Archangels was preaching about him."
"…Really?! That's the legendary guy who robbed the gift of reincarnation? I've heard that Death wants him dead more than anything."
The angel elves whispered among themselves, and surprisingly enough, Kiernan was even more famous in Hell and in Heavens than in the Martial Arts World.
It wasn't far-fetched to say that he might be the most famous mortal in existence, as there had never been a mortal that caused as much of a ruckus as he had.
"I want you to get ready for the Feast of the Gods. I need you to be at your absolute best."
The Fair One opened the door to his room, and Kiernan nodded and entered the room, which was much larger than he had expected.
She closed the door, leaving him all alone.
'I didn't expect that when I woke up today that I would be fighting in front of Gods…'
Kiernan wryly smiled, walked to the window, and took in the view of the beautiful land of the Heavens.
The mortal world seemed like a garbage dump compared to the ethereal beauty before him.
"…"
He pulled out his phone and saw that there was no service, but he still snapped a couple of pictures, as he didn't need service to do that.
'I'll show these to Aoi and Ellie later.'
Kiernan then pocketed the phone and sat cross-legged on the floor and took a meditation stance.
'Right… How does my system interface look right now?'
