Chapter 824: Natural Cycle of Life

It had become completely silent in the Feast Hall, and the Fair One, even though she had been used to attention, was quite taken aback by this.

'This must be the first time that a single mortal has been stared down by over a hundred gods.'

She thought to herself.

And she then looked at Kiernan, wondering how he was faring, and to her surprise, he didn't seem to care.

"W-Where should we go sit?"

The Fair One asked.

Every table was pretty much already occupied, and no matter where they sat, they would get a lot of attention from the gods of that table.

"…That one has plenty of empty seats."

Kiernan suddenly said and stared towards a certain table.

She also looked over—she immediately paled—he was looking at the table where Death himself was sitting all alone with his champion.

"Y-You're joking, right?"

"Nope."

Kiernan stepped forward, slowly approaching that table, and the gods gasped one after another after seeing where he was heading.

"…"

Death's eyes squinted.

In that moment, Kiernan sat down at the same table—just a few chairs away—and started filling his plate with food.

The Fair One sat across from him. Shocked to the core. She had no idea that Kiernan was so fearless and bold.

'He is definitely not a normal mortal. This feels like he is playing around with Death. Who even dares to do such a thing?

'When he eventually dies, Death will make sure that he will suffer for all eternity in the afterlife, so why does he act so recklessly and without fear?

'Any other mortal in his shoes would be begging for mercy, but I guess this is what kind of person he is.

'A normal mortal wouldn't have been able to steal the gift of reincarnation from Death. This is why he is not normal.'

The Fair One thought to herself.

At that moment, Kiernan took a bite of the food and let out an acknowledgement of satisfaction.

The juices of the food attacked his throat, and he felt like he was on cloud nine. He had never eaten something as tasty as this.

Mortal food couldn't even comprehend the tastiness of this dish, and he then tried the drink, and it was the same level of deliciousness.

'If I live in the Heavens for a prolonged time, I will definitely become fat if I get to eat this kind of food every day.'

Kiernan thought to himself.

Death was still staring at him, but Kiernan wasn't acknowledging his presence in the slightest, as if he didn't care that he was here.

He was just so incredibly nonchalant.

The gods and goddesses were gobsmacked, as no one would dare to treat Death like this, so seeing a mere mortal do this was shocking.

"…"

Death swung his arm, and with just the mere wind pressure of swinging his arm, every bit of food on the table got blown away.

The food splattered across the floor and the walls.

"…I was still eating that."

Kiernan said, and put his fork and knife down, and then slowly turned to look at the black-cloaked Death.

"I don't care."

Death pressed his finger against Kiernan's forehead, and in the Feast Hall, everyone stopped eating.

Even the winged angel stopped introducing the new guests.

"I should kill you right here and now."

Death said coldly.

"H-Hey…"

The Fair One tried stopping him, but then Death's gaze landed on her, and she was completely frozen in terror.

"Why aren't you doing it then?"

Kiernan asked with a smile.

It was a smile that annoyed Death to no end, and he even contemplated just killing him off right here and now.

However.

He pulled his hand back.

"…Death cannot kill someone who hadn't reached the end of their life cycle. It would break the natural order of things, and that is something he cannot do."

The Fair One whispered to him.

"…Cannot or should not?"

Kiernan whispered back.

"Should not… If he killed you, it would cause irreparable damage to the universe. You still shouldn't underestimate him. Death does not care how much destruction happens if he kills someone."

The Fair One said.

'That doesn't mean he can't get someone else to kill me. Will he get another god to kill me, or perhaps…'

Kiernan looked over to Death's champion—at Prisoner—who was just enjoying his food without caring about anything else.

'That guy is dangerous…'

His vast experience in the field of martial arts made Kiernan's senses very astute, and he could tell that this Prisoner was a tough one.

Click! Click!

In that moment, Big God picked up his wine glass and tapped it with a spoon, gathering everybody's attention.

"Welcome, fellow gods and goddesses, to the Feast of the Gods. It's been a millennium since the last one, and hopefully it won't be the last one…"

Big God said, slyly eyeing Death, to hint to him not to do something stupid.

If Death actually killed Kiernan, this might very well be the last Feast of Gods, as the Heavens might not exist if he went and destroyed the natural cycle of life!

"Tonight, we will enjoy good food and drinks while we watch our mortal champions duel it out in the Battle of the Champions."

Clap~ Clap~ Clap~

A round of applause filled the Feast Hall, and the mortal champions exchanged glances with other champions.

There were hundreds of champions present from every realm.

In that moment, a couple of winged angels brought forward a moving wall. It had wheels under the wall. There were names engraved on the wall.

It was the tournament bracket, and with so many names, it was clear that the competition would be fierce.

'I won't be fighting for a while, it looks like.'

Kiernan thought as he looked at the tournament bracket, as there were quite many fights before his.

"The first match—Goddess of Nitpicking and God of Hyperbole—bring forth your mortal champions, and let's kick off the Battle of the Champions!"

In that moment, their two champions took the center stage, each one looking fierce and determined.

They were wielding weapons—one of them had a hammer, and another one had a sword.

Ding!

A winged angel rang the golden bell, and with that, the fight kicked off to a round of applause.

'It has been a millennium since I last saw mortals fight. I wonder if they had become any stronger during that time!'

Big God thought to himself curiously.

The heavy hammer swung through the air, but the nimble-legged swordsman kept his distance and waited.

In that moment, the champion with the hammer lifted it high. It left him wide open. The swordsman lunged forward for a stab.

"Heh."

The hammer-wielding champion smirked, and he suddenly brought down his hammer on the head of the swordsman.

The speed at which he was wielding the hammer took everyone by surprise, as, for the start of the fight, he swung the hammer very slowly.

It made everyone think that the hammer must be extremely hard to swing because of its weight.

However, it was all a decoy.

This champion could actually wield it as quickly as if he were swinging a mere thin-bladed sword because of his strong muscles.

"…"

The swordsman looked up at the descending hammer, and it smashed straight into his head with a deafening impact.

Every god and goddess expects to see brain matter splattered across all directions.

But soon, to their surprise, nothing seemed to happen, and the hammer-wielding champion looked confused.

"Hmph, fool."

The swordsman flash-stepped forward—moving as fast as light flooding a room—and he appeared behind the hammer-wielding champion.

He had already swung his sword. The blade was drenched in blood. And behind him, the hammer-wielding champion gushed with blood.

There was a long bloody wound on his chest, and then, the hammer-wielding champion collapsed on the ground.

"…Whoah!"

"…He won!"

"…How come that hammer didn't do anything?"

Goddess of Nitpicking was stunned to see her champion lose like that and looked at the swordsman in surprise.

"How…?"

"Hahaha"

God of Hyperbole laughed while rubbing his belly and looked at the pretty goddess with an ever-so-growing smirk.

"Curious? Want to know?"

"…Yes."

Goddess of Nitpicking said with a frown.

"My champion is from the Cultivation Realm. He has done something called body tempering that has made his body unbreakable.

"Nothing can hurt him, haha!"

God of Hyperbole laughed happily.

With that, the first match ended, and already, one of the champions died, and was dragged away from the feast hall.

It was common for champions to die in the Battle of the Champions.

"…He seems strong."

The Fair One said when looking at the swordsman.

"I guess."

Kiernan said, and shrugged his shoulders.

He personally didn't think that he was anything special, and even though his body might be strong, it wasn't going to be strong enough.

With his True God rank, he had also undergone body tempering, and he personally believed that his body was stronger than this cultivator's.

As soon as the first match ended, the second match began, and there wasn't a single moment of delay between matches.

Gods and goddesses started enjoying their food and drinks while watching the mortal champions shed blood.
