Chapter 28: Lonely Soul

Lynch's pupils constricted slightly, and he murmured under his breath, "A solitary soul?"

The name felt both unfamiliar and strangely familiar to him. As he concentrated on unraveling this thought, a long-buried memory suddenly resurfaced vividly in his mind.

These memories dated back to his apprenticeship at the Shadow Tower, during the Blood Moon War held by the Wizard Family at the site of the Ancient Ruins.

Deep within a shattered ruin, he had once sensed an extremely weak soul fluctuation at an ancient altar relic, like it might dissipate at any moment. At the time, that soul body called itself "a solitary soul," and they had a brief exchange.

"Could it be..." A hint of surprise flashed through Lynch's eyes. He hadn't expected that soul to actively reach out to him.

At the same time, the voice seemed to penetrate through time and space, acutely perceiving his inner turmoil, and spoke slowly with the familiarity of a long-awaited reunion, "It seems... you remember me now."

The voice paused, as if the cross-time communication consumed it greatly, carrying a trace of fatigue in its tone: "Come to me. I think... it's time for us to meet again."

"Through the layers of spatial barriers, my voice... has difficulty reaching clearly."

"I..."

"Need your help..."

The aged voice halted after saying "Need your help..." and no matter how Lynch called in his mind, there was no further response, as if the clear conversation moments ago had exhausted the last of the spirit's energy.

Lynch stood in place, his brow slightly furrowed, a hint of hesitation in his eyes. The resurfacing of the ancient soul and its final call for help undoubtedly threw a wrench into his original plans.

After contemplating for a moment, he made a decision, rising to walk out of the small wooden cabin.

In the yard, Shirley was crouched on the ground, carefully sorting several magic materials recently gathered from the forest, meticulously removing impurities and categorizing them by attribute.

After a period of calm recuperation and with the magic potion provided by Lynch, her injuries had mostly healed, her pale cheeks regaining color. She had even resumed the meditation cultivation she had paused for a long time, and her aura had become much steadier than before.

Upon hearing footsteps, she quickly stood up, dusting off her hands, and respectfully asked, "Mr. Lynch, have you finished your cultivation?"

Lynch nodded slightly, and bluntly stated, "I have some matters that require me to leave for a while."

Upon hearing this, Shirley's face showed a hint of urgency as she quickly spoke, "Please wait a moment!"

"What is it?" Lynch halted and looked at her.

Shirley explained, "Sir, I share special spirit imprints with several scattered companions from the family, so we can sense each other's general location in times of trouble."

"In recent days, I've vaguely felt one of those imprints showing faint fluctuations near the Gray Stone Canyon area! I want... I want to go check the situation. They might know something about Miss Avery's whereabouts!"

Lynch's eyes flickered slightly. He nodded, indicating his agreement.

Then, as if remembering something, he gently traced his finger over the space ring, and with a shimmer of black light, an item appeared in his hand.

It was a peculiar-looking necklace. The chain was made from pure mithril, shimmering with a cold metallic luster. The pendant was a vividly lifelike depiction of a gruesome dragon skull no bigger than a fingernail, crafted from unknown bone, with two minuscule dark red gems set in the eye sockets, like the eyes of a sleeping dragon, exuding a faint unsettling aura mixed with majesty.

"Take this." Lynch handed the necklace to Shirley.

"What is this...?" Shirley accepted it with both hands, feeling its cool touch, sensing the powerful yet ominous undead energy within.

"It is called 'Dragon Remains Shelter,'" Lynch explained calmly, "It's an undead witchcraft artifact."

He further elaborated, "Inside it seals an independent undead environment space where my former mount, the bone dragon Trans, is now confined."

As Lynch advanced to the third-tier domain, his power rapidly escalated, and the bone dragon Trans, resurrected with an incomplete dragon soul, gradually could not keep up with him.

Due to the deficiency in its soul's essence, it could not improve through regular means. Lynch simply transformed it, sealing it within this specially crafted amulet, providing a decent sanctum for this early follower undead creation, typically keeping it in the ring.

"Currently, in the site of the Ancient Ruins, enemies clearly reaching domain levels are few and far between." Lynch looked at Shirley, speaking with assurance, "With Trans protecting you, unless you encounter the top-tier entities, your safety should be assured. If faced with insurmountable danger, activate the necklace to release it."

Shirley tightly grasped the cold, heavy "Dragon Remains Shelter" necklace, feeling the immense power slumbering within, a warm current and strong sense of security surged in her heart. She bowed deeply to Lynch, "Thank you, Mr. Lynch! I will be cautious and find the clues as quickly as possible!"

With this powerful amulet, she was filled with confidence in the task of going to Gray Stone Canyon to search for companions and inquire about Miss Avery's whereabouts.

After briefing Shirley, Lynch did not linger further. He raised his slender index finger, casually slicing through the air before him, and a space crack, its edges shimmering with silver light, quietly opened.

Almost the moment the crack formed, a small head covered in fine red scales eagerly poked through. It shook its head, revealing a pair of lively, clear amber vertical pupils; it was none other than Parker, the first magic life Lynch had personally transformed during his apprenticeship.

Since mastering the space domain, Lynch had specifically created a stable dimension space for this little creature, crafting a warm dragon nest suitable for it to rest freely within.

At this moment, the restless Parker swiftly flew out from the space crack, flapping its wings while affectionately circling Lynch twice, finally landing on his arm, persistently rubbing its smooth, cool head against his hand, emitting a soft, "woo-woo," childlike whine, evidently complaining about being "locked away" for too long, yearning for its owner's companionship and play.

In Lynch's eyes, a rare hint of warmth appeared as he gently stroked the hard scales on Parker's neck, murmuring, "Alright, I know you're bored. We need to go out for a while; once tasks are done, I'll play with you."

Parker seemed to understand human speech, lifting its head to look at Lynch, then obediently chirped softly, jumping down from his arm, landing on the ground.

The next moment, its originally tiny body began to swell and grow rapidly at a speed visible to the naked eye!

The fine scales rubbed against each other, emitting metallic clanging sounds, its limbs becoming strong and powerful, head elongated, revealing sharp teeth, and the pair of wings behind swiftly expanded into immense membranous wings that could cover the sky.

In mere breaths, the adorable little creature vanished, replaced by a ferocious fire dragon over twenty meters long, radiating scorching heat and faint draconic might!

It slightly lowered its body, Lynch deftly flipped himself atop Parker's sturdy neck, gripping the bony protrusions.

"Let's go."

Parker emitted a deep, excited dragon roar, its massive wings suddenly vibrating, stirring the ground with intense gusts of air and dust, carrying Lynch upward like a scarlet lightning bolt, quickly disappearing into the haze-laden sky above the Mist Forest.
