The Frugal Mage

Chapter 150: Rare Spell Ticket

Rayven closed the mission summary window, but his system didn't stop there.

Another notification appeared.

[ Tier Advancement Qualification: 2 / 2 ]

[ You are now eligible to advance from Tier 1 Mage to Tier 2 Mage.

To proceed, you must be in a safe and stable location.

Warning: During advancement, all system functions will be temporarily disabled. Spellcasting, Skill Market, and other features of the system will be locked until the process completes. ]

Rayven paused for a moment after seeing this.

With no system, he certainly would become vulnerable. He couldn't do it now while they were still travelling.

He glanced at the others.

Miki was chatting with the driver. Nara was half-asleep against a crate. Thyruz was reviewing his notes.

They were still halfway to Hesa City. The road was quiet, but not secure.

Rayven dismissed the prompt for now…

Advancement postponed.

He'd wait until he returned to the estate. There was no need to rush. He'd rather be cautious than become crippled mid-transit.

Instead, he opened the second reward he received from the system.

[ Rare-Grade Spell Ticket Activated ]

[ Processing…

You may select 1 out of 7 Rare-Grade Spells.

Note: Spell will be granted upon Tier 2 advancement. ]

'Ohh… Makes sense… I only have 10 Spell Limit right now.' Rayven mused.

Soon, a new window unfolded in front of him, showing him the Rare Grade Spells he could have for free after the advancement was completed.

Rayven scanned the list carefully.

'Interesting… So these are Rare Grade Spells…' Rayven mused.

Telekinesis II.

It was a direct upgrade. He already had the first version, and this would let him lift heavier objects and manipulate them with more precision. Useful, but not urgent. He could manage with what he had for now.

'I wonder what will happen with my 'Telekinesis I' now?'

Well, he wasn't sure if it would fuse to Telekinesis II or if it would exist at the same time for a cheaper option.

Anyway, he would learn more about it in the future, or he could ask for his suggestion feature later.

Mana Bullet was quite straightforward. A clean, fast projectile and surely stronger than Mana Flick…

It was efficient, but not unique. He already had enough offensive options. He'd like Fireball more.

However, Magic Missile was different.

'Three homing shots? For only one gold? Are you serious? This is too good!'

Although the damage was noted to be weak, it was still three shots! Definitely better than three Mana Flicks!

It was tempting as it could pair well with Mana Pulse or Fireball for layered attacks. Still, it felt like a redundancy. He preferred control over volume. He would, of course, consider this as one of his options.

Next was the Barrier Pulse.

A reactive shockwave was tied to his defenses. That could work well with Stone Skin. Pushback was useful in close quarters, especially if ambushed. He took note of it as well.

Then, Magic Bind was a tether spell and was also quite decent, especially if he was dealing with fast-moving targets.

It was good for locking down movement. If used correctly, it could also be used to interrupt casting or slow down enemies. He liked it, but not as much as Barrier Pulse…

Swift Step was surely better than Gust Step in terms of raw speed, but lacked the directional control. Still, it was cheap and fast. It could be useful for repositioning or dodging.

Then he reached the last one.

Stabilize. It sounded so simple… However, the effect was definitely incredible. It was a very important Spell for emergencies.

Of course, it didn't fix wounds. But it could slow bleeding, numb pain, and keep someone alive long enough for proper treatment or for potion to be consumed!

Rayven didn't have anything like this.

He had offense. He had movement. He had defense. But if someone collapsed mid-mission, he had nothing to help them. He could certainly bring potions within his system vault but that would take a few steps before he could give it to someone.

An instant Stabilize Spell would definitely be more useful!

He tapped the icon once to view the expanded details again.

Simple cast time. Low cost. No flashy effects. Just practical support.

Rayven nodded to himself.

"This one's worth it…" he muttered. He was already sure that he would take this Spell.

Nonetheless, he didn't select it yet. He still had time before his Tier advancement. But as of right now, this was the Spell he wanted to take, unless something changed his mind.
