The Frugal Mage

Chapter 182: New Spells

Rayven checked the skill description…

[ Gravity Bind (Rare): Generates a small gravitational field that anchors a single target in place. Prevents movement and reduces evasion. It can be resisted by very high strength or anti-control effects.

He really liked it…

Still, Rayven decided to use his suggestion feature for now.

He opened his system interface and navigated to the Basic Suggestion Feature… As he mentioned his query, the system activated.

[ Suggestion Feature Activated ]

[ Mystic Explorer Path Detected - Adept Tier ]

[ Cost: 3 Gold Coins deducted. ]

[ Request: Curated Tier 2 Spell Recommendations for a smooth advancement into Tier 3 Mage in the future. ]

The interface shimmered briefly, then displayed a list of spells optimized for detection, control, and mobility, each one selected based on his current Mystic Explorer Path.

[ Tier 2 Spell Recommendations - Mystic Explorer Path ]

[ System Note: Recommendations are based on current path, recent spell usage, and situational context. Additional synergy analysis available via Combo Inquiry (5 Gold). ]

Rayven scanned the list... Well, he already had the Scout's Recall, so made sure to take note of the two spells. They were detection and mobility spells…

Once again, he was lacking firepower…

Nonetheless, they were spells he could use to explore, investigate, and control the battlefield.

He then closed the interface.

Then, he checked his current balance.

[ Current Balance: 5,221 Gold Coins ]

Not bad.

Most of it came from his steady earnings, not just from the Fountain Pens and Mayonnaise he'd been selling, but also from the Guildmaster's reward after the Glimmermuck Invasion. That mission had been brutal, but the payout was generous.

Then there was Stein.

His brother had apparently reported his situation to their parents. It took time, but once they learned he'd become a mage, they sent a large sum of money. They knew how expensive Spell Rune Models were, and they didn't want him held back by cost.

Thanks to all that, Rayven was… well, rich.

He hesitated for a moment, then tapped the Gravity Bind listing.

[ Gravity Bind (Rare): Generates a small gravitational field…

He read it once again before he purchased it.

[ Purchase Confirmed - 1,600 Gold Coins deducted. ]

The spell was now his.

Rayven exhaled slowly. He really liked this Spell, so there was almost no hesitation, purchasing that... It wasn't flashy, but it was very reliable and tactically useful. He could already imagine the setups like pinning evasive targets, interrupting spellcasters, and locking down runners.

With this Spell, he just needs a high-powered spell to eliminate anything that he locked down.

Then, after confirming that he obtained the new Spell, he opened his inventory and selected his final Refresh Token.

[ Market Refresh Token - Used. ]

[ Skill Market has been updated. ]

The interface shimmered, and the familiar list vanished. A new set of spells appeared in its place.

[ Skill Market – Refreshed ]

[ Mana Push (Common) - 500 Gold ]

[ Six Good Steps (Common) - 550 Gold ]

[ Minor Ward (Common) - 650 Gold ]

[ Inner Mend (Uncommon) - 800 Gold ]

[ Fade Mark (Uncommon) - 950 Gold ]

[ Reaver Bolt (Rare) - 1,750 Gold ]

Rayven then checked the Skill Market and began reviewing each entry carefully.

Rayven paused briefly as he checked each spell. Well, he could replace his other Common and Uncommon Spells, so he had to check all of them, and not just the Rare ones.

Anyway, Mana Push was basic, but useful for quick spacing. Six Good Steps had potential for dodging or repositioning, especially in tight places. Minor Ward was decent, but he already had enough support spells.

Then his gaze settled on Inner Mend.

He tapped the description again. Internal healing... He wasn't exactly sure, but it might help Elvira. He made a mental note to consider purchasing it later and replacing Mana Flick.

Arc Needle gave him a clean offensive option… It was not flashy, but the piercing power was good. He liked that.

Fade Mark was situational, but it had tactical value. Especially if he needed to move unseen or mark someone discreetly.

Then came the heavy hitters.

Reaver Bolt. That one was good. It was a direct, high-speed strike that ignored basic defenses. Perfect for mages who relied too much on shields.

Nova Shard was even better for crowd control. Area damage, mana disruption, it was the kind of spell that could turn a fight around if timed right.

Rayven exhaled slowly. This refresh was good.

And with over 3,000 gold still in his balance, he could afford to be bold.
