So I Became a Witch and Started Doing Daily Quests

Ch. 185

Chapter 185: Calamity Plane

“A human, actually possessing 【Extraordinary Charm】—could it be that she has the latent bloodline of an 【Oak Dryad】?”

Thinking this, Black Cat Bell couldn’t help but associate it with the particularly pleasant plant scent on Janna, which only made it more convinced of its own judgment.

“However, this scent doesn’t come from her bloodline. It feels more like... the soul—something purer and more exalted than mere bloodline power.”

Contradicting its own argument, Black Cat Bell irritably rubbed its face with a paw.

Then, perhaps feeling drowsy again, Black Cat Bell, no longer inclined to think, simply arched its back in a stretch, then quietly curled back atop the Magical Crystalline Wall and drifted off once more. “What a strange apprentice…”

Back at her dormitory, Janna smoothly set up the 【Spirit Summoning】 ritual.

As the flame of the Spiritual Candle gently ignited, Janna decisively used the sterilized Mithril Short Knife to make a small cut in the center of her left palm, letting crimson droplets fall onto the Silver Mirror.

“Let’s hope nothing goes wrong—”

Taking a deep breath, Janna then retrieved the Water Elemental Essence, which had already condensed a large mist around it, and held it tightly in her upper right palm.

“Great Lord of the Spirit Realm, you who rule the Astral Realm, heed my will and descend with your infinite might—Spirit Realm's Gate, open!”

With the completion of the chant, the candle’s flame surged high.

As the lengthy Mykethan incantation flowed from Janna’s lips, the molten wax dripped down the candle and mingled with her blood.

“Hmm? This is—lightning?”

Guided by the ritual, the Water Elemental Essence in Janna’s hand shimmered with deep blue waves, like rippling water.

Additionally, mist swirled as streaks of white lightning coiled and rolled within the fog.

“No wonder it’s a top-grade Water Elemental Essence. The coordinate locked this time is actually a high-energy multi-elemental plane.” Gazing at the round mirror now suspended midair, Janna hesitated not a second and activated her talent.

“Spirit Phase Travel—”

Buzz—light flashed abruptly. Accompanied by the familiar weightlessness, colorful lights danced in Janna’s pupils. Soon after, a buzzing whisper filled her ears, quickly drowning her consciousness into darkness—

“Success.”

As her awareness returned, Janna, now in spirit form, awakened amidst a turbulent ocean of magic.

“【Ocean】, 【Mist】, 【Lightning】, 【Storm】, 【Earthquake】—this plane is ideal for comprehending laws related to 【Calamity】.”

Torrential waves, roaring thunder, and tornadoes that gathered every ten minutes... Faced with this apocalyptic landscape, Janna immediately cast the 【Floral Guard】 witchcraft in her spirit state, carefully dodging the storms.

Moreover, while communicating with the will of the plane, Janna discovered that because this world had long been shrouded in various natural disasters, the surviving plane creatures were mostly pure elemental beings that didn’t require sustenance.

The variety of creatures was limited as well, all being a low-intelligence species resembling clouds or mist, dwelling eternally in the thunderous sky.

“Rumble—”

Thunder roared as heavy rain poured.

While dodging lightning, Janna continued to communicate with the plane’s will using her spirit form. Yet compared to the 【Thorny Plane】 and the 【Flame Plane】, this plane’s will was notably colder.

Only after Janna repeatedly and humbly inquired did the will reluctantly offer one or two pieces of information. Most of the time, it completely ignored her.

“Oh well, getting even this much is something.”

From those scattered replies, Janna learned that the elemental creatures of this plane were magical beings called “Thunderclouds.”

Though primarily 【Water Attribute】, their prolonged exposure to thunder granted them the 【Lightning Attribute】 as well.

“Never thought I’d encounter a dual-element creature here—what a pleasant surprise.”

Before contracting the Flame Guardian, Janna had also considered contracting a lightning-elemental creature. After all, compared to fire, lightning was the true top-tier in “offensive power.”

Unfortunately, whether it was Lightning Elemental Magic Stones or other lightning-related energy carriers, their exorbitant prices had been beyond Janna’s reach at the time.

Also, due to the highly active and unstable nature of the lightning element, it was incredibly difficult for Lightning Elemental Magic Stones to form naturally. Even with artificial methods, the manufacturing cost was too high, making mass production—like with Fire Elemental Magic Stones—unfeasible.

Thus, aside from their cost, the fact that they were priceless even if available was the main reason Janna had abandoned the idea of contracting a lightning-elemental creature. “Thunderclouds have an almost infinite lifespan. Even juvenile Thunderclouds have lived over a hundred years—the magic stored within them is terrifying—”

After quietly observing for a while, Janna found that most Thunderclouds, in terms of magic concentration, were no less than formal witches. If Janna attempted to forcibly contract one, it would likely result in severe backlash.

“But fortunately, though Thunderclouds possess the lightning attribute, their temperaments are relatively gentle. They don’t actively attack—if I use that well, a successful contract isn’t out of the question.”

Crackle—just as Janna was searching for a suitable contract candidate, a faint electrical buzz echoed above her.

Looking up, she saw, amid an expanse of ink-like black clouds, a completely snow-white Thundercloud, much smaller than its peers, floating not far from her.

“It’s decided—it’ll be you.”

After quickly confirming that this juvenile Thundercloud’s stored magic met her contract conditions, Janna didn’t hesitate. Over ten black chains, flickering between solid and ethereal, shot out from around her, completely encircling the Thundercloud.

Crackle—

The moment Janna launched her assault, the once snow-white Thundercloud instantly turned into a mass of dark cloud wrapped in white lightning.

Its once gentle nature changed entirely. Blinding lightning, like serpentine predators, raced along the 【Soul Chain】 toward Janna.

Crack—

At the moment the lightning struck the emerald green shield around her, the usually reliable 【Floral Guard】 nearly failed under the Thundercloud’s initial strike.
