Reborn as the bastard son of a Duke

Chapter 76: It Awakens(2)

"Draconic Summoning: Ignis."

A swirling mass of mana would light up the whole chamber removing the darkness.

The red fiery energy would condense into a dragon like silhouette, the silhouette was covered with the fire element which was able to partially light up the whole area.

There was absolute silence after.

The was so deep that the only thing that was heard was the swirling mass of mana that being the summoned dragon Ignis.

Adam was standing it the darkness which was partially illuminated, there was no breaths and the was even the scraping of shifting Stine.

Only whispers could heard.

It were whispers that were thickening the air like syrup.

"—You... can... hear... us—"

"—We long waited—"

"—Awaken... become... our vessel—"

Adam clicked his tongue in frustration.

That wasn't going to happen.

He then raised his hand, he was channeling his mana into his palm.

The dragonic silhouette also stirred a bit, opening it's mouth with red mana building up.

Adam created a small sphere, it was rippling with spatial energy, the air around the small sphere was warping.

And that's when he saw it.

The coffin it was no longer sealed, something has come out.

The crack had begun to widen, the chains were snapping one by one, and they all dissolved into black smoke.

Adam sensed something coming and he acted immediately.

Commanding the dragon silhouette and also firing the small sphere at the coffin.

"That was close."

Both moves hit the lid and made a thunderous explosion that changed the whole chamber.

BOOOOM!

The lid was dropped shut with a thunderous echo, this sent out dust and splinters of the ancient stone into the air.

But the coffin was pushing back back.

And a heartbeat started to echo throughout the whole chamber.

THUMP.

THUMP.

THUMP.

"—Our rise—"

"—Calls Him—"

Adam could be seen gritting his teeth, he extended a lot of his power into pressure against the coffin's lid.

His was pouring much if his mana into the ancient stone, he was freezing the cracks that formed, he layered seal after seal.

Rime was spreading rapidly—frozen runes formed on the surface.

Frost Seal: Ninefold Lock.

Seven rings made of ice were clicking into place...

The eighth...

The ninth...

When the final clock touched the coffin—

The was a wave of corrupted mana that blasted out of it.

Adam was thrown back a bit towards the wall, he crashed into the stone pillar with enough power to crack it.

However he was injured, his constitution, armor and regeneration were things that kept him fighting no matter how many times he got battered and bruised.

"Tch, this is harder than I anticipated."

He dusted his clothes and locked into the coffin, it's lid was still closed for now.

But now... the whole room was pulsing with something ancient, it was struggling to free itself from underneath.

The runes started to dim.

Something was trying to tear them apart, it wanted to escape.

Adam room a deep breath and moved forward.

"—The seal is almost broken... get him!"

"Kim him before the seal gets stabilized!"

"Even if Overseer Valtor failed... he won't fail!"

Voices were emerging from the shadows.

Adam's eyes would flicker upwards, the cultists he had killed earlier.

All of them should already be dead, but now they stood up.

They were all broken, they were twisted, their bodies slumped in unnatural ways, their bones were jutting under their skin.

Their heads were twitching in unison towards Adam, their eyes glowed with bright violet-res.

"—Our God Will... animate...—"

Adam recognized this phenomenon.

"Necromancy."

However this one was different, it was mixed in with corruption.

Adam would tighten the grip on his sword, while the dragon silhouette also moved along get ready.

"This is new, well let's see what you got."

The animated cultists screeched as they rushed forward, they were moving in a mindless frenzy.

Three of them would leap towards him simultaneously, their limbs were bending backward like dislocated spiders.

Adam moved his draconic summon forward, it moved instantly and opened its maw releasing a swirling torrent of fire.

The fire swallowed all of them whole, they turned into ash that was scattered on the ground.

More surged at him, it was fifteen, no, it was seventeen now.

They made unpredictable movements, they weren't coordinated at all, and certainly not human.

There was something that was controlling them, and he needed to find out what it was.

He slammed his palm to the ground.

"Freezing Wave."

Ice exploded outward, it was a wave that crystalized the ground and the legs of the cultists.

But they didn't stop, they tore their own legs and just kept crawling towards him.

"Y'all sure are persistent," he said, and he was growing more annoyed.

"Pierce them, Ice Spear."

Dozens of thin ice spears formed around the walls and floor, they burst out impaling the crawling bodies instantly.

One by one all of them fell limp, silent.

But the whispering still didn't stop.

"—You can't stop us—"

"—The seal will weaken—"

"—We are infinite—"

Adam turned his gaze towards the coffin.

The seals he placed were cracking.

And this wasn't because of the cultists.

It was because of what was sealed within, it was relentlessly trying to breakthrough.

There was a deep, slow pounding that was shaking the carven.

THUD.

THUD.

THUD.

Adam felt the vibrating through his bones, but his mind was still calm.

"What the fuck is happening in that thing?" he muttered.

He tried to step forward.

And then—

The ceiling of the carven cracked violently, dust started raining down.

Adam generated a layer of ice all around him expecting it to collapse.

He didn't expect that reinforcements would come.

A shadow dropped through the cracked ceiling, it landed smoothly on the far side of the chamber. Its cloak fluttered and had a pale silver mask that gleamed.

Adam narrowed his eyes.

This thing had a heavy aura, it was a heavy aura.

[Sovereign's Aura Activated]

Adam countered it's aura with his own, this cause the figure to straighten.

"Located target," the figure said. His voice was too calm, monotone, and bored.

"The name is Soren Hale Rank A+, in a Reaper-Class Assassin. You've been interfering with the will of the Outer One. So you must die here."

Adam just looked at him and blinked once.

"... At this point i fell like all your words are scripted."

Soren didn't respond to the taunt, he didn't even need too.

His murderous intent flooded the whole room like a tsunami.

However Adam remained unfazed, he is undoubtedly the strongest assassin he'd ever faced.

'Good, this way I might be able to use my powers to a certain extent.' Adam thought to himself.

Soren didn't draw a weapon, he didn't need one.

In a single flicker, he vanished.

There was a whisper of air behind Adam—

Adam soun around, sword already raised—

CLANG!

The impact launched both of them backward, skidding across the carven floor.

Soren was flung several meters away, while Adam barely moved a few meters.

Soren's arms shook from the force.

He was fast, but Adam was faster.

But he didn't stop, Soren moved once more, he appeared next to him in an instant.

"Your stronger than i expected," Soren said coldly. "I'll have to get even more serious."

Adam looked at him with a smirk.

'This one is better than the rest.'

But then—

THUD.

The coffin started to pulse again.

There was a crack that ran down the side, there was light spilling through the breaks.

"The seal truly is destabilizing. You must be eliminated."

Adam just made a grin.

"Like your capable of that, snail assassin."

Things weren't going as expected.

The coffin, the reaper, both of them were reaching their critical points.

Adam was standing between them.

Soren then raised his hand.

The coffin would split slightly, a chained hand started to slip through.

More whispers filled the carven.

"—Release... me—"

Adam's instincts screamed.

If that coffin opens, then we're screwed.

He lowered his stance.

"Fine then."

He aimed his sword at Soren first, the draconic silhouette besides him moved slightly.

"You'll have to die first then."

Soren's aura sharpened like a blade.

"Wrong."

His voice was cold as ice.

"You'll be the one to die."

Both of them vanished at once.
