Rhyana fought like her life depended on it, because it quite literally did. She was still in the midst of the horde of monster ants, dashing from one foe to the next with desperate movements.
Wounds littered her body by this point, despite her best intentions the shear number of foes that she had fought was almost too much for her to count.
At first Susan had ensure that she stayed in peak condition, always paying close attention to her health and sending a healing sleep her way if she took a serious wound. But as the battle slowly dragged on, Susan was unable to save the mama needed to constantly be healing her, she was now primarily focused on expanding her field of bubbles, along with enhancing Rhyana's defences.
Both girls had become somewhat accustomed to the ever shifting battle by now. They stayed right at the front, their only allies that stayed this deep being the immovable Earth Wyrm and the Wind Roc that would regularly fly by overhead and unleash a barrage of wind attacks, momentarily easing the pressure on the 3 combatants.
Still even with the aid of two beast lords, it was a truly rough battle.
The core of the beast army had somehow manage to maintain its position, not falling back or being overrun by the seemingly endless assult of the ants. The two wings of the army, consisting of the Storm Touched also held strong. Although the side closest to the Orthrus had suffered some losses when the giant soldier ant had been launched into the lines by a particularly strong attack from the Orthrus.
Speaking of the soldier ants, Rhyana quickly glanced over to where her friends were currently engaged with one such monster. She couldn't see much from her position, but she saw enough to feel slight awe.
A near constant barrage of void magics were being flung with incredible speed towards the ant. It's disturbing limbs in a constant flurry to try and block them. At the same time, flashes of white could be seen from directly underneath the ant as Luna held its attention.
A surge of shame washed over Rhyana upon witnessing her friends being forced into such a brutal battle. If only she had been stronger, then she would have been able to help them more directly. Instead she had been forced to sit back and only engage in this prolonged battle against a horde of lesser monsters. And even still she is struggling!
She knew logically that it was unreasonable for her to feel this way, and knew that her role was still quite important in the overall battle. But she was unable to dampen the feeling of inadequacy that washed over her upon witnessing the magical might of Violet and the swift grace and deadly power of Luna.
As if feeling her emotions, which she likely was due to their bond. Susan sent over her own feelings of inadequacy, but then continued on sending her feeling of hope and her determination to get stronger. The emotions were rough, as if not quite formed correctly but, the intention was quite clear to Rhyana. If you are undatisfied with your current strength then all you have to do is get stronger!
That… that was something that Rhyana could get behind!
So with renewed vigor she dove back into the fight. Tearing off heads and limbs alike from the ants, her lightning undergoing a renewal as it began to jump from ant to ant in an ever growing chain of lightning. Any creature that was struck writhed in pain as its insides began to be cooked by the concentrated power coursing through its flesh. Leaving them wide open to a swift claw or bite.
Susan's bubbles expanded, flying deep into the lines of the ants before all exploding in a rippling burst. The monsters all around them screeching in pain as they were buffetted by concussive waves, making their insides shake.
This continued for some time as the companions got engrossed in the continual combat, blood and icor coating the rain slick ground.
Then she heard a concussive boom, her head whipped to the side, recognising that sound as coming from Violet's strongest attack. Her eyes widened in shock when she saw the scene before her.
Violet was barely standing, a deep wound nearly severing one leg and her chest cut open. The monster had been pushed back, yet did not seem out of the fight just yet. Rhyana's heart clenched in fright and she made the desicion that she needed to get to them to help, even if that help wa only delivering Susan to Violet so that she could help heal her.
So with neary a second thought she began to charge towards them. But with the great number of ants in her way she opted to fly over instead.
With a mighty leap she launched herself into the air, her wings snapping open and pushing down to provide the needed lift to keep her airborne. She suffered a couple of stray attacks from the ants below her, but nothing that she was unable to handle.
Then she was flying, soaring above the battlefield. It was here that she felt something shift, a shivver running down her spine as she felt like something was freezing. She did not seem to be the only one impacted by this feeling as most creatures near to Violet and Luna seemed to feel it too.
Looking over at them Rhyana bore witness to a peculiar sight. The closer creatures got to her friends the slower they seemed to be moving, with the ones closest to them seemingly frozen in place. Yet they themselves did not seem to even notice this shift. When she looked up she understood what was happening.
Luna had appeared atop the monster, unleashing a furous onslaught of attacks, tearing into the being that was currently frozen in time. Rhyana felt her heart pound upon witnessing the power being displayed. She hoped that Luna would be able to put down her foe, yet her prayers were not answered.
Soon the monster snapped out of its frozen state and Luna slumped down in utter exhaustion. The Terror on the other hand seemed furious.
Rhyana began to fly all the faster, determined to get their to provide whatever meager aid she could to her two precious friends.
Yet it would seem like her sid was not needed. For Violet, who was somehow still on her feet despite the gracious wound she had suffered was not out of the fight just yet.
A glow seemed to emanate from her closed mouth, the monster seemed to finally notice the dragon once more and slaked towards her, intending to finally put an end to Violet.
It was then that the dragon opened her maw and unleashed pure devastation. A beam of utter destruction erupted from her mouth, its violet hue turning the world into a monochrome of purples for an instant. Then came the explosion. A visable shockwave pushed back the very rain itself, along with all rubble and creatures within sever dozen meters of the impact point.
Then as if in slow motion Rhyana watched as the half desecrated corpse of the monster ant began to collapse.
It wa then that Rhyana finally reached Violet's side, Susan not waiting a moment longer as she leapt off and landed besides the dragon who was now slumping to the ground in exhaustion and pain. Rhyana similarly did not stay still, rushing to locate Luna, she soon found the leopard.
Luna was too in a state of utter exhaustion, so Rhyana swooped down and half carried half dragged the big cat over to Susan's side.
Once both companions finally saw each other, they gave half hearted smiles before promptly passing out.
Rhyana snorted in bemused awe at the two. But did not allow herself to be distracted from the ongoing fight for too long. She took a defensive stance in front of her exhausted and wounded friends, determined to not allow a single monster the chance to get close to them at this time.
It seemed that a few of the Storm touched felt the same way, as 3 wolves split off from the fight to stand before Rhyana, silently offering their own protection for the wounded beast lords that just slew one of the two strongest foes in this battle.
Like that Rhyana bore witness to the rest of the war.
She watched as the Orthrus slowly but surely whittled down the other soldier ant, eventually felling its foe. The twin headed dog did not suffer quite as much as Violet and Luna did, so it was able to join in the main battle once its foe was dead.
From there the fight turned into a one sided slaughter. With the two soldiers dead what little coordination the monsters held, swiftly fell apart. The beast rallied around the victorious Orthrus and soon began to overwhelm to ants. It did not take long from that point for the battle to come to a decisive end. The last ant being crushed under one of the might paws of the twin headed Orthrus with a resounding boom.
