There were also cases of mislabeling, where a remedy meant for a common cold was touted as a cancer cure. This is a blatant case of misrepresentation, but the actual efficacy can't be denied. Such elixir recipes can only be discerned by analyzing each herb involved.
After a lengthy period of research, Ling Zhenfei finally ruled out the fake elixir recipes. Almost all the recipes collected by Si Mayang turned out to be useless, with only one left—the Nine Revolutions Soul Restoration Pill—which Ling Zhenfei judged to be genuine.
The Nine Revolutions Soul Restoration Pill was also a lost elixir, with an extremely complex production process, yet the effects were outstanding. As long as a person's life was not fated to end and their Essence Qi was not dissipated, they could be revived with this single pill.
Finding such an elixir recipe made Ling Zhenfei feel that his efforts were not in vain; the discovery could be considered immensely significant.
He continued searching for useful items in the Treasure Pavilion, but the pavilion mainly contained medicinal herbs. Other items were scarce, and his search turned up little of use.
Noticing that it was getting late, Ling Zhenfei made some preparations in his room before lying down on the bed to sleep.
The next morning, Ling Zhenfei was awakened by the sound of the door opening, and then he saw Si Mayang and the butler walking in.
"How goes it, Divine Doctor Ling, have you found a treatment method?"
Si Mayang was naturally very worried about his illness and immediately inquired as he entered, but the butler was busy looking around at the various items, checking to see if anything had disappeared. However, his inspection turned up nothing missing.
Ling Zhenfei understood everything but chose not to speak out. He said to Si Mayang, "After thinking it over all night, I have indeed found a method of treatment, but I can't guarantee whether it will be successful or not."
Having gained so much from the Treasure Pavilion, Ling Zhenfei was not the type to be ungrateful, so he decided to give Si Mayang a chance.
Upon hearing this, Si Mayang's heart leapt with joy, "Really, Divine Doctor Ling? That's truly wonderful."
Ling Zhenfei hastily gestured and said, "Don't get too excited just yet. Although I've thought of a treatment method, your Treasure Pavilion is not short on Spiritual Medicine, but the method is still missing one crucial ingredient."
"What ingredient?" Si Mayang asked curiously.
"The Seven-Colored Flower!"
"What is a Seven-Colored Flower? I've never heard of it before," Si Mayang and the butler were both very curious.
Ling Zhenfei explained, "The Seven-Colored Flower is an extremely precious herb with seven petals of different colors. It is particularly effective for nerve necrosis and, fortunately, it is ideally suited to treat your condition."
Si Mayang inquired, "Then, does this medicine still exist in the world?"
"Of course, it does, it's just very precious and not easy to come by."
"Divine Doctor Ling, with your extensive knowledge, do you know where to find the Seven-Colored Flower?" Si Mayang asked.
"I do know where to find a Seven-Colored Flower; in fact, I've previously collected one," Ling Zhenfei responded.
"What? You've collected a Seven-Colored Flower? Then where is it? I am willing to pay a high price to acquire it," Si Mayang exclaimed excitedly upon hearing that Ling Zhenfei had a Seven-Colored Flower.
"But unfortunately, the Seven-Colored Flower has already entered the Dragon and Tiger Auction House," he explained, "and it will be auctioned at the end of the month."
Ling Zhenfei spoke the truth—he did have a Seven-Colored Flower in his possession, the Heaven-Dropping Essence Marrow, to be precise. However, Ling Zhenfei had no intention of taking it out again. If Si Mayang was capable, he should just attend the auction at Dragon and Tiger Storm.
"What do you mean by this, Ling Zhenfei? You're trying to play us for fools, aren't you? You know we need this herb, so you deliberately sent it to the auction house to be sold, wanting us to spend more money, right?" Si Mayang's butler said, clearly very angry at the moment.
Ling Zhenfei laughed, "Heh heh, if Brother Sima had simply explained the situation when he called me, perhaps I wouldn't have given the Seven-Colored Flower to the auction house. But as it happens, you didn't mention it, so it was not intentional. If you don't believe me, you can look at the announcement made by the Dragon and Tiger Auction House yesterday morning; it was released then."
"So you knew that the medicinal herb was in the auction house, yet you still intentionally used this medicine, wishing to make us pay more," the butler accused, increasingly desperate.
Upon hearing this, Ling Zhenfei grew angry. He glanced at Si Mayang, "If that's the case, then I have nothing more to say. You can find someone else to treat Brother Sima's illness."
Having said his piece, Ling Zhenfei started walking towards the door, but at that moment, the butler rushed up to block his path.
"The same old tricks as yesterday, do you really think I, Ling Zhenfei, am afraid of you?" Ling Zhenfei's temper rose, showing no fear of the butler.
Si Mayang hastily intervened, "Divine Doctor Ling, please don't be angry. My servant misspoke, and I apologize on his behalf. It's just a matter of money, which I truly don't care about. Just tell me how much you want for the Seven-Colored Flower—I will buy it."
"I'm sorry, but the Seven-Colored Flower is now with the Dragon and Tiger Auction House, and they have full authority over it. I have no right to intervene. If you really want it, you'll probably have to attend the auction."
Ling Zhenfei looked at Si Mayang, "Brother Sima, I'm not intentionally targeting you. If it were all about extorting money from you, I could have directly told you that I wanted money, without making things so complicated."
Si Mayang nodded, "What you say makes sense. Let's settle it then. As long as you can confirm that you can cure my illness, I'll get the Seven-Colored Flower, no matter the cost."
"Then there's nothing more to discuss. We shall meet again at the Dragon and Tiger Auction House at the end of the month." Ling Zhenfei knew he had no reason to stay any longer and it was time to leave.
At this point, no one dared to stop Ling Zhenfei, and so he walked out with his head held high.
Si Mayang also followed him, offering to treat Ling Zhenfei to a meal, but Ling Zhenfei declined, citing other obligations.
Once outside Si Mayang's courtyard, listening to the bustling sound of cars, he felt as if he had traveled through time.
He stopped at a small shop to grab breakfast and thought about where to go next. He already had a destination in mind.
While chatting with Chen Qian at Xishan Manor, Chen Qian had mentioned something—inviting him to visit his junior sister in Capital City and to have her analyze their plans. With nothing else pressing, Ling Zhenfei thought it was a good time to go, and was curious to see what Chen Qian's admired junior sister was like.
Opening the address Chen Qian had sent, Ling Zhenfei was about to take a taxi when his cellphone suddenly rang. A strange number appeared on the screen. Curious, but unsure who it might be, Ling Zhenfei still answered.
"Hello, may I ask who this is?"
A woman's voice came from the other end of the phone: "Hello, is this Mr. Ling Zhenfei?"
He found the woman's voice unfamiliar and couldn't quite understand who would be calling him.
