Chapter 56: Room at the Inn

After leaving the castle, Eve and I went to an inn that I know is of good quality and not too expensive. This was the place where Grace stayed before going to the castle.

It has a nice price for good comfort, of course with no security at all the guests' safety depends on themselves. They also don't serve any included meals, so Eve and I will have to eat somewhere else.

But the rooms are big, so Eve and I can share a room without any problem. We can just sleep together in the same bed since there's only one bed per room.

"Eve, what do you think of this room? It seems good, doesn't it?" I ask Eve as I gesture around the room. Eve comes in with our things and sets them on the floor.

"It seems good enough for you, Evelyn-sama, although the low security is a bit concerning. But I think this is the best we can get considering the low price and good comfort," she says, and I nod.

"Well, this inn wasn't made for nobles, but for common people. So this is kind of a luxury room for common demons. And the receptionist was super nice!" I say, approving of that guy.

He's a good receptionist. It would be even better if he didn't have that strange look because of the type of demon he is, but no prejudices! I can't judge a nice person by their appearance.

At least he didn't question anything or say anything more than he should. After all, a noble staying here might be strange, and by his look, he must have recognized me because of the bad rumors about me.

"Eve, you can put the things anywhere... I really don't care as long as they don't get damaged," I say, pointing to a corner of the room. There's a small wardrobe that can't fit much.

But it's what we have for now. In the future, when we have money, we'll go to a better inn, and maybe I'll even be able to buy a house, although I don't think it's worth it since I'm going to go back to the castle later.

"Okay, Evelyn-sama, where should I leave my sword?" She asks while I carefully analyze the room. It has yellowish walls with good space, but no supports.

It only came with a medium-sized bed, a small wardrobe, and a small table with two chairs. Other than that, there's nothing else, not even a bathroom the bathroom is downstairs.

Although I did pay an extra to have access to a private bathroom. After all, I need to take good care of myself! I would never risk using the common bathroom, where someone might see my body!

"Ah... I don't know," Eve said it's not good to leave the sword just anywhere, as it slowly damages the durability and sharpness of the blade. This reminds me that we need to buy a sheath for it, as well as a better sword.

"So much to do, so much to do!" My mind spins with ideas as I throw myself onto the bed. It's comfortable, not too soft, but comfortable enough for me.

"Well, let's think about these things later, Eve. First, we have to go to the guild! I have to register our group!" I'm strangely excited about this. In the game, there was a way to join the guild, but Grace was a bit overpowered.

She's too strong, and her title as a heroine gives her huge advantages in the ranking, so she had a high ranking from the start. That's why I'm excited to have this chance now. Spending time just me and Eve, gathering power for our future, will be fun. I'll really enjoy exploring various places with Eve.

Besides, there are beautiful tourist spots in this city that I'd love to visit and explore, no doubt. My eyes even start to shine as I imagine seeing those places in person instead of on a computer screen.

"Hahahaha," Eve starts to laugh, and I look at her strangely. She soon waves her hand, signaling for me not to worry about it.

"It's nothing, Evelyn-sama. It's just that you're so cute when you're deep in thought. It's even a bit funny because I don't think you realize the expression you make," she says, breaking my pensive moment.

"Tsk!! Just hurry up! We have to go to the guild!" I tell her to speed up. She quickly starts to put away the dresses we brought, while I get up and go to the window to look outside.

'Looking at it like this, it doesn't even seem like this world is gloomy with terrible traditions and cultures...' The city seems quite peaceful on the "surface." What happens behind the scenes is no doubt terrible.

"Evelyn-sama, how will we register at the guild?" Eve asks curiously as she continues to tidy up the room.

"Oh, first I'll register you as... as? Eve, how am I going to register you?" I ask, confused.

"How should I know!?" She says, alarmed. I never thought about how to register a marionette. She's not a person, and others will notice that.

"Well, I think with the guild's rules, you'll probably be counted as a summon or something like that. You probably won't get the permission to be a regular adventurer, but you'll get the group privileges," I murmur the possibility.

"I'll leave it for us to figure out when it happens, Eve! Don't worry! Anyway, I even have a plan to skip the lower Ranks!" I say excitedly, thinking about ignoring the lower Ranks.

"You know, Eve, normally we'd have to start at the lowest Rank and slowly work our way up. But during the registration, we can try a challenge to increase the Rank."

"And with your power, I think we can aim for Rank C. That's important, you know? From Rank C and up, you can go to dungeons without even having to notify the guild."

"If we're Rank F, E, or D, we won't be able to go to dungeons. We'd only be able to do stupid missions. So we have to try to get Rank C!" It will all depend on Eve and whether she can pass the challenge.

The adventurer Ranks are actually quite simple to understand. It's more or less based on the "freedom" in the guild and the strength of each person.

F = Basic Rank, the starting point for any adventurer. No benefits in the guild and can't take higher-ranked missions, nor can they go to dungeons. If they go to a dungeon without permission, they'll have to pay a fine.

E = This Rank is only slightly higher than Rank F. Has the same restrictions, but with the benefit that if they're dying, the Guild will provide minimal support.

D = The D Rank has fewer restrictions. In addition to the basic support, they also get access to a basic medical kit and a resting room if seriously injured. They can go to dungeons, but only with a group that has at least one Rank C member.

C = This Rank allows adventurers free access to dungeons, but the guild doesn't take responsibility for any permanent injuries or accidental deaths, only getting involved if the death is proven to be criminal. They get basic emergency medical support.

B = From this Rank, adventurers get lifelong guild support, medical assistance when needed, and special commissions. But they also have the duty to serve the guild in case of an emergency.

A = Rank A is awarded to adventurers who have made great contributions to the guild, either through high power or significant intellectual contributions. They receive support from the guild in various areas and even help with certain things, in exchange for having to serve the guild when needed.

S = From this Rank, they'll have almost complete freedom from the guild and missions, in exchange for having to serve the guild in case of an emergency. However, they'll have medical, judicial, and even loan support if requested.

X = In Rank X, they'll have total freedom from the guild, and the guild will try to recruit their help, but without anything mandatory. The guild will provide any necessary support.

XX = And XX is the highest Rank in the guild. Total freedom and even the ability to temporarily command the guild in the absence of a guildmaster. This person will have the full support of the guild if requested, while being able to take on any mission independently.

"Plus, Eve, there are usually some stupid rules we'd have to follow, but since I'm a noble and a candidate for the throne, I can literally bypass the rules!!" I say excitedly, finally finding an advantage in being a candidate for the throne.

"So, Evelyn-sama, we just need to make sure we get Rank C?" Eve asks, finishing up and coming to me.

"That's right! We just need Rank C, and then we can go to dungeons without much annoying bureaucracy," I confirm with a smile, taking her hand and pulling her towards the door.

"We have to go right away!! I want, if possible, to go on a mission tomorrow! So the faster we do this, the better!" I didn't tell Eve everything. In fact, being a candidate for the throne gives us some bizarre rights.

Each candidate for the throne can commit murder, theft, kidnapping, or any other normal or sexual crime, and they won't face any punishment, as long as the person isn't important or the stolen object isn't of extreme value to someone influential.

It's kind of bizarre to know that there's literally a law that allows us to kill normal people like that, and that's why I didn't tell Eve about it. I don't like something so barbaric.

I prefer to just pretend it doesn't exist and continue with my life.
