Ring! Ring!
The bell rang, indicating the end of class. The professor started to collect his things to leave, while some students were already getting up from their seats to leave the classroom before the professor did.
Amon yawned.
Yawn~
"Hah... finally lectures are over," Amon said with a relaxed expression.
It was just yesterday when he was on a date with the princess, before exploring a ruined city with monsters chasing him.
He got up from his seat and walked toward Seraphina and Eliana.
Marcus was behind him. But again, Amon didn't stop for him and left the class.
Today Marcus was silent. He still remembered that battle between him and Amon, how he got fooled by a commoner.
Amon also didn't try to bother him today, or else Marcus might have exploded more than usual.
"Hey Sera! Eli! Let's go," Amon said with his sweet smile.
"Yes. Let's go. We wanted to go to the library after classes end. Not too much, just for some hours," Eliana said with her ever-cheerful smile, which did not suit a princess.
Seraphina also nodded beside her.
Amon looked at them in confusion. "Why are you going to the library? Is there anything you want to find? Some information?"
This time both Seraphina and Eliana looked at him in confusion. A realization came to Eliana. Her eyes sparkled. She smiled widely, her clear blue eyes observing Amon.
"It seems you don't remember it, Amon. But after two weeks, it will be our theory exam for the first semester."
Amon's eyes widened in shock, jaw dropped. How could he not be shocked? He never paid attention in class. He still thought the exam would not be so early.
"But why so early? It's still the third month of this year. Shouldn't exams be held at the start or middle of the fourth month?" he retorted. This education system was not right. How could they complete the syllabus so early and throw exams at students?
This time Seraphina answered calmly. "Theory exams will be at the end of the third month, while practical exams will be held next month. Also, they take longer."
Amon remained silent. He thought deeply. His focus now shifted from theory to practicals.
He didn't know much about them, but he knew they were really hard and dangerous.
He even heard rumors about students dying during them. Though they were rumors... they could be true.
"Amon!" Eliana's voice brought him back from his useless thoughts.
"Oh.. Uh.. let's go! Let's go! I need both of your help. My knowledge, theory, everything sucks. I might fail. Please help me out!"
Eliana giggled at his pleading. Seraphina sighed while shaking her head.
"Well, I will charge a high price for it," Eliana told Amon. She wouldn't teach him for free.
He looked at her with round eyes.
"Tch! Trying to loot a poor man. My Sera is here. I won't need your help," Amon clicked his tongue and declared that he still had Seraphina by his side.
He turned to look at Seraphina with hopeful eyes. Only to see her face with a pink shade. She was slightly blushing. At this moment she really looked cute.
'Oh! She's so cute!' Amon thought.
"Amon... you can't say something like that." Seraphina tried to hide her embarrassment. She knew he only said such things jokingly, but it still made her flustered. Who says 'my Sera ' with such a sweet face?
Eliana burst into laughter.
"Amon, where do you get so much confidence from? Your Sera~ hehe" her giggle echoed through the empty classroom. All students had already left.
Seraphina's cheeks became hotter.
"Shu-shut up, Eliana!" she blurted.
Amon also tried to control his laugh.
Then they left the classroom.
---
Amon's head fell onto the table, where a book rested open.
"Hah.. I can't do it. This is too much." He reached his limit.
He couldn't study anymore.
Eliana and Seraphina, who were sitting on both sides of him, sighed together.
Currently, they were in the library, sitting at a study table.
Seraphina and Eliana exchanged a look.
"He lasted longer than I expected," Eliana murmured with genuine surprise.
Seraphina nodded softly. "Mm. Twenty-five minutes is… impressive for him."
Amon lifted his face slightly, eyes tired. "My brain… it's not braining…"
He pointed at the book. "There are… so many words…"
Seraphina pressed her fingers to her forehead, trying not to sigh too loudly. "Amon, you have to at least remember the basics. Mana circulation theory, elemental compatibility, arcane formulas—"
"I remember!" he interrupted confidently.
Both girls blinked.
Amon smiled proudly. "Mana is… mana. Compatibility means… being compatible. And formulas… are formula-ish."
Eliana smacked his head with her book.
"OW!"
"You idiot! Say something useful!"
Amon rubbed his head and glared. "I am smart! This world is at fault for making studying harder than fighting monsters!"
Seraphina gently slid another book in front of him. "Here. This explains everything more simply."
Amon leaned back. "Seraphina… my beloved Sera… mercy…"
Her ears turned pink again, but she still pushed the book closer. "No mercy."
Eliana chuckled. "Come on Amon. Imagine you're training. This is mind training!"
"I'd rather get chased by a wy—" He froze.
Memories flashed.
Running. Screaming. Claws. Teeth. Death.
"…actually studying is good... but why do we need to learn Arcane formulas? Isn't it only high rank ones who can use them..." he said quickly, spine straightening.
Seraphina nodded. "It doesn't matter whether you can use it or not. Having knowledge is always good. Also, these are all basic arcane formulas."
Amon sighed and muttered. "Okay."
Eliana smirked. "Alright Amon, let's start again. Repeat after me. Mana density increases proportionally to—"
Amon raised his hand.
"Yes?" Seraphina asked.
"…?"
"…Can I take a small break?"
"No."
"Can we go and bring something to eat?"
"…No."
Amon whined and slammed his forehead back onto the table.
Thud.
Eliana and Seraphina leaned forward and spoke in sweet voices—
"Amon. Study."
He trembled.
"…y-yes, teachers."
They sat in silence for a moment.
Eliana grinned. "If you score well, I'll treat you to dinner."
Amon's head popped up instantly. "What kind of dinner?"
"Anything you want."
His eyes gleamed.
Seraphina cleared her throat softly. "…I will bake cookies if you pass."
Amon didn't say anything. This was unexpected. Totally unexpected.
'Sera will actually bake cookies for me... that's so cute and innocent,' Amon grinned.
"Alright. Let's study hard."
Eliana blinked. "…That fast?"
Seraphina smiled, a little satisfied. "Motivation is important."
Amon clenched his fist. "For cookies and free food."
Though he didn't care much about Eliana's dinner… cookies from Seraphina? That was something worth fighting for.
They both stared at him silently.
"…Just read page one first," Seraphina said patiently.
"…yes ma'am."
He opened the book.
Thus he seriously started to study.
But not for too much time.
