A week passed in the blink of an eye. Amon had been strictly following his routine. Waking up in the morning. Going for a run around the Academy. Then attending lectures.
Sparring sessions had become more interesting lately. Fighting different opponents every sparring class. Amon had won most of his fights but lost miserably to top students.
Still, he was happy for not getting paired up with Seraphina, Arnold, or Marcus.
After classes ended, Amon would go for training. Practicing his swordsmanship, hatchet throwing, and marksmanship.
Then one last thing: studying. He had to get help from Seraphina and Eliana for hours.
It was just another day. Only one week remained for the written exam.
Currently, Amon was going toward the secret pathway outside the academy. It had been a long time since he sneaked out.
whistle~ whistle~
Amon was humming and whistling.
He was happily going in that direction. Now he was not afraid of the student council much. Why should he be? The president was close to him.
It was night. He had already eaten dinner. Now he was going to explore the night city.
"Where should I go? hmm~"
Just when he reached near the abandoned building, right before he entered, someone called him from behind.
"Where are you actually going?"
Amon stiffened. He turned back immediately.
This was the last person he expected to see.
Short, shoulder-length black hair with red streaks at the ends. Red eyes observing him with interest. Two fluffy wolf ears twitching cutely above her head. Taller than him, arms folded beneath her bust—Aisha stood there.
Amon froze.
'Why is she here? Did she follow me? And I didn't even notice her.' He thought.
"Hello there, Aisha! Why are you here?" Amon gave a friendly smile, greeting her as if she were his old friend.
"You didn't answer me… What's inside the abandoned storage room?" she asked with suspicious eyes. Her brows narrowed.
Amon tried to act innocent. He rubbed the back of his neck. "What are you talking about? I wasn't going there, I was just strolling. hehe."
Of course, she didn't buy the lie. She stepped closer to him.
"I remember President Selena talking about how you got caught two times sneaking out of the academy, in the infirmary. So… the path outside is here?" She hit the mark perfectly–her speculation was spot-on.
Amon still smiled. "Haha… come on, how can you say that? I don't sneak out anymore."
But Aisha didn't listen. She tilted her head and grinned widely at him.
"Oi. Let's go outside. I'm bored of staying in the academy for months. I want to explore the city too."
"Ah?" Amon blinked, surprised. Relief washed over him. Even though he acted confident, he knew Selena would punish him if he got caught again. Closeness or not.
He grinned back, matching her smile. "Then follow me! I know Elarith City very well."
Amon was not going to lose good company. He always went alone. Having someone with him was nice.
"Now that's what I like to hear," she replied. For the first time she talked nicely to him… maybe the second time.
Well, it didn't matter.
---
It was night, yet Elarith City was brimming with crowds and lights.
The streets were still full of life. Friends talking and enjoying time together.
Drunkards fighting in alleyways.
Men going home from work. Couples on night dates.
Between them walked Amon and Aisha, side by side.
"So tell me, where do you want to go?" Amon asked, calm and relaxed.
Aisha looked around.
"I don't know the city. Shouldn't you be the one to take me somewhere fun?" she asked while gazing at him.
Amon raised a brow and met her red eyes.
"Oh? So it's like a date– taking you to a nice place– OUCH!" he yelped mid-sentence.
Aisha elbowed him in the stomach before he could finish.
He rubbed the spot and glared. "Why hit me?" he complained, genuinely confused.
Aisha narrowed her eyes. "Use your words more carefully. As if I'd go on a date with a weakling like you. Hmph!"
Amon didn't drop it. "So you will go on a date with me if I become stronger?"
Another elbow strike.
"Ouch! Okay! okay! Sorry. Heheh, I won't do it again." Yet he smiled despite the pain.
It was honestly entertaining.
"Okay, so where should I take you..." Amon wondered.
Aisha's gaze landed on an expensive-looking restaurant. Amon noticed and quickly said,
"Well, sorry Princess Wolf, we can't all afford to dine in golden palaces."
"I never dined in a golden palace… and I'm not a princess," she muttered.
Amon raised a brow. "…Really? You look like someone who eats meat off platinum plates."
Aisha ignored him and sniffed the air. Her wolf ears perked up. "Meat."
Amon blinked. "What?"
"I smell grilled meat somewhere." She suddenly looked serious. "Take me there."
Amon sighed like a defeated soldier. "Of course. The noble lady desires street meat. Yes, yes, I shall guide you."
First it was Selena. Now Aisha.
---
Soon they stood before a stall where sizzling skewers cooked over fire. Smoke rose into the cold night air.
Aisha's eyes sparkled. "I want ten."
Amon stared. "Ten… skewers?"
She nodded like it was normal. "I'm hungry."
Amon checked his coin pouch.
He smirked. He had a good amount of money. Thanks to Arnold and Marcus.
He ordered.
---
Minutes later,
Amon chewed slowly on his second skewer, delight in his eyes. Aisha happily devoured her ninth one, tail almost wagging under her uniform skirt.
"You know…" Amon said proudly, "You are lucky I have money with me from my hard work."
Aisha finished the last bite and wiped her mouth. "Good. Then you had enough to feed me."
Amon stared at her, speechless. "...Are all beastwomen like this? Even Senior isn't this much of a foodie."
She smirked. "You should feel honored. It means you're not boring. Also, which Senior are you talking about?" she asked with curiosity.
Amon blinked.
"Well, forget it. Let's go and enjoy something more… though I can't eat more. I already had dinner at the academy."
He didn't hate her company.
He bought her dumplings, ice-cold cream, and many more things.
There was only one thought in his mind.
'She's from a rich clan… so why am I paying for this?'
