The Smiling Death

Chapter 256: Demon Attack (12)

Far away from the human camp, far from Amon's desperate struggle. The dark forest was being torn apart by another battle.

A battle between monsters. Galahad and Vaelrix Nocthar were still fighting.

The ground around them was no longer recognizable as forest land. Trees had been split in half, some burned, some crushed into splinters.

Deep cracks ran across the earth like scars. The air itself trembled, heavy with pressure. Shockwaves through the forest.

Clang!

A deafening sound rang out as two blades met.

Galahad's massive greatsword collided with Vaelrix's long sword. Sparks exploded between them like small stars.

The shockwave from the clash blasted outward, flattening grass and throwing broken branches into the air.

Galahad slid back half a step, boots digging into the soil.

Vaelrix was pushed back farther, his heels carving lines into the ground before he steadied himself.

Both warriors stood facing each other.

Galahad's body glowed with a deep brown light, like compressed earth and steel. The aura wrapped around him firmly, heavy and unyielding.

His breathing was steady, though blood trickled down from a cut on his forehead and another across his shoulder.

Vaelrix Nocthar looked worse.

Dark blue energy surged violently around his body, flickering like cold flames. His armor was cracked in multiple places, black metal bent inward.

Blood stained his side, dripping steadily onto the ground. One of his horns had a visible fracture near the base.

Yet his eyes. His vertical blue slit eyes still burned with sharp intelligence and cold intent.

"So persistent," Vaelrix said, his voice calm despite his injuries. "You humans truly are troublesome."

Galahad tightened his grip on his greatsword.

"You demons don't know when to retreat," he replied coldly. "That's why you keep losing."

Vaelrix smiled faintly. Then he vanished.

Boom!

The ground exploded where he had been standing.

Galahad reacted instantly. He twisted his body and swung his greatsword sideways with terrifying force.

Clang!

Vaelrix reappeared mid-strike, his long sword meeting Galahad's blade. The impact sent blue and brown light crashing together. Another shockwave roared outward, uprooting nearby trees.

Vaelrix used the recoil to spin away, landing lightly on a broken tree trunk. He slashed downward.

A crescent of dark blue energy tore through the air, slicing everything in its path.

Galahad planted his feet and raised his sword. The brown aura around his body thickened.

Boom!

The energy slash slammed into him, exploding against his defense. Dust and debris swallowed Galahad completely.

Vaelrix narrowed his eyes. From within the dust. Galahad stepped forward.

His boots crushed stone. His aura flared.

"You'll need more than that," Galahad said.

He lunged.

The earth cracked beneath his feet as he closed the distance in an instant. His greatsword came down in a brutal overhead strike, heavy enough to split a hill.

Vaelrix barely blocked.

Clang!

CRACK!

Vaelrix's knees bent as the force drove him downward. The ground beneath him shattered into fragments. Blood sprayed from his mouth.

He grimaced and twisted his blade, sliding Galahad's sword aside just enough to avoid being crushed.

Vaelrix retaliated immediately.

His sword blurred, slashing again and again in rapid succession. Each strike was precise, aimed at joints, neck, and vitals.

Clang!

Clang!

Clang!

Galahad blocked most of them, but not all.

A sharp cut opened along his ribs. Another grazed his thigh.

Blood spilled.

Galahad grunted but didn't retreat.

He rammed his shoulder forward.

Boom!

Vaelrix was sent flying, crashing through two trees before slamming into a boulder. The rock shattered behind him.

Vaelrix coughed violently, blood splattering the ground.

He forced himself up, leaning on his sword.

"…Impressive," he admitted quietly.

His dark blue aura surged wildly, growing denser, colder. The temperature around them dropped noticeably. Frost began creeping along broken branches and rocks.

Galahad felt it immediately.

"So you're finally getting serious," Galahad said.

He lifted his greatsword and slammed it into the ground.

Crack!

BOOM!

Brown light exploded outward. The earth responded to his will. Jagged stone pillars burst up from the ground around Vaelrix, trying to impale and trap him.

Vaelrix roared.

He slashed in a wide arc, blue energy erupting from his blade. The stone pillars were shattered mid-rise, reduced to rubble.

But the effort cost him. His breathing became heavier. His aura flickered. Galahad saw it.

He charged again.

Their weapons met once more in blinding speed.

Clang!

Clang!

Clang!

Each clash sent violent waves through the forest. Trees fell. The ground caved. The sky itself seemed to tremble.

Vaelrix tried to overpower Galahad with speed.

Galahad answered with raw strength and unshakable defense.

Finally.

Galahad feinted low and then swung upward with everything he had.

Boom!

Vaelrix was too slow.

The greatsword tore across his chest, ripping through armor and flesh. Blood exploded outward as Vaelrix was thrown back, crashing hard into the ground.

He skidded across the dirt, leaving a long crimson trail.

Vaelrix lay there for a moment, unmoving. His chest rose and fell unevenly.

Galahad stood tall, chest heaving, blood dripping from his wounds. His grip on the sword tightened as he approached cautiously.

Vaelrix slowly lifted his head. Despite the pain. He smiled.

"This… isn't over," he said softly.

The dark blue aura around him pulsed once more, unstable and furious.

The battle had not yet reached its end. They clashed again.

Clang!

Their weapons met with one final, violent impact. Sparks burst outward, and a shockwave rolled through the shattered forest. But this time, the clash lasted only a few minutes. The rhythm broke.

Vaelrix stepped back.

One step. Then another.

In just a blink, he had retreated several meters away from Galahad, putting clear distance between them. His breathing was heavy, his chest stained with blood, but his posture remained composed.

Something appeared in his hand.

A dark purple crystal.

It pulsed faintly, emitting a low, ominous glow. The moment Vaelrix's eyes fell upon it, his pupils constricted. A trace of surprise and realization, flashed across his face.

"So they already doen enough damage…" he murmured.

Galahad didn't hesitate.

He bent his knees, brown aura surging violently, and prepared to charge again.

But Vaelrix raised a hand.

"Enough, man," Vaelrix said calmly, though his voice carried weight. "Let's end this."

Before Galahad could close the distance, Vaelrix send a signal to all of his demon soldiers.

After that he started to conjured his strongest spell. The mana density skyrocketed.

The forest screamed.

Wind howled violently as the spell expanded, growing larger and larger.

The magic formation shot upward, piercing through the canopy and stretching high into the sky, its direction clearly aimed toward the human base, where demon soldiers and human soldiers were still locked in brutal combat.

The spell was just not normal. Unknown words form on the spells. They were runes. Something that can help to strengthening spells output.

Galahad's eyes widened.

"Don't you dare!"

He launched himself forward instantly.

The ground behind him collapsed as he moved like a cannonball, greatsword raised high. He reached the spell in a single bound and swung with all his strength.

Slash!

His blade tore straight through the massive magic formation.

For a split second, everything went silent.

Then.

BOOOOOOM!

A colossal explosion erupted across the forest. Dark blue and brown light engulfed the area, flattening everything in its path.

Trees were obliterated. The earth was torn open. The shockwave traveled far, shaking the battlefield miles away.

Galahad was thrown from the sky.

He slammed into the ground hard, rolling several times before coming to a stop. Blood spilled from his mouth as he struggled to push himself up.

Smoke and dust filled the air.

"Vaelrix…!" Galahad growled, forcing himself to stand.

He searched the area. Left. Right. Behind. Nothing. The dark blue aura was gone.

Vaelrix Nocthar had disappeared.

---

At the human camp, the battle was still raging.

Steel clashed against claws. Magic exploded. Screams echoed through the forest.

Then.

Beep.

A faint, sharp sound rang out.

One by one, every demon soldier froze.

Inside their armor, embedded near their chests or waists, dark crystals began to emit the same beeping sound. Purple light flashed briefly.

The demons' expressions changed instantly.

Confusion turned to urgency.

Without hesitation, they disengaged.

Demon soldiers leapt back, broke formation, and began retreating at full speed, abandoning the battlefield entirely. Some dragged wounded comrades. Others vanished into the forest without looking back.

"Retreat! Retreat now!"

Human soldiers stared in disbelief.

"They're… running?"

The humans were in no condition to chase.

Caspian who was fighting against a demon knight who was as strong as him. Also stopped fighting and ran away as fast as possible. Caspian wanted to followed him. But the the human knights were in bad condition. He cannot leave this place.

Their numbers were thinned. Many were wounded, exhausted, or barely standing. The battlefield was soaked in blood, human blood far more than demon.

They watched as the demon forces disappeared into the forest, leaving behind silence, smoke, and devastation.

The battle was over.

But no one felt victorious. Because it was humans who had taken more damage here.

---

The place where Amon and others were fighting against Kalrik.

Few demons soldiers came.

"What the? Sir Karlik is dead!" They started to talked in panicked and surprised.

They search the surrounding and saw few humans lying there.

"Oh...three humans are alive and other four are dead."

One of them declared.

"So should we go with Sir Karlik's body?"

Other nodded but then smile widely. "Let's take this three humans as hostage. We didn't find any human hostages at all."

Just like that. Amon and two of his teammates were captured by Demons.

[A/N: Hello guys! No we will see some extra blood in next chapters. It's time for Amon getting some new power? Well he might get. Let's see Amon's journey of this island is far from over. Hehehe~. Also sorry for not writing about sixth rank one's powers in detailed. Just think that Galahad and Vaelrix didn't use their strongest skills. I still want to modify and add some unique powere for mystic Sovereign. Thats why i didnt show their fight in much detail.]
