The Gourmet Innkeeper: Cooking Monsters in a Fantasy World

Chapter 105: Inn Landscaping! (Part 2)

One side of the lot would be the relaxation areas. He decided the eastern face was better because the slope and view there was better, while the west was more filled with trees (and a lot of sap trees).

Tumble, in the past few days, had not only finished the bunk beds, but also his outdoor table and chair sets. They were circular and looked like woven rattan. For the handiwork, Ranran definitely helped out.

He even made him (and Pang) rocking chairs and better hammocks since they seemed to like watching people fight in the barrier.

It was quite touching, and that rocking chair was really comfortable.

Amusingly, Pang adjusted quickly and moved there, so now there was a Panda on the front porch, guarding it, but relaxing/sleeping on a rocking chair.

As for Ranran, she had managed to complete several monster skins into proper leather.

Ranran's inheritance taught her a lot about tanning formulas, which were needed to prolong the skin's life and prevent loss, and even increase its defensive capabilities.

She used plant tannins, which were relatively easy as long as Finn was there to find the plants, which were fortunately quite common.

And so… now they also had materials for tents in case they got big groups that wouldn't fit in the few rooms they had now.

And another thing about the past two days was that he finally found a skill he could use—and a really good one, too!

[Assessment]

He smiled. He could finally skip over the appraisal tools and not be limited to food-related info!

It was very affordable and very useful—too worth the money. Not to mention, there was no recovery time! As long as he had mana, he could use the skill relentlessly.

According to the skill, sitting on the chairs could give 2% more regeneration, while using the table seemed to be able to increase clarity of mind to a small degree. This meant that even outside the walls of the inn itself, he could also add buffs.

Anyway, it was all quite interesting, and what he would build eventually would be more than just aesthetic.

In time, he would build a garden with flowers here, and maybe even a gazebo. Most 'barrier fights' would be here, too, so people could watch ongoing fights and use this place as a rest when they wanted to.

As for the other side (the west), he would keep it mostly as it was. Not only were most of the in-barrier plants there (other than the front), but he would be expanding the building in that direction someday.

For the front, other than the preservation of the existing forest, it would mostly be open space, albeit they'd curate it bit by bit. They'd add better tiles eventually and make it into a camping area.

They added a permanent campfire in an area as well, and people would just need to add a bit of dry grass and a spark of fire to make it work.

However, despite all this, he also had to give sufficient space and easement next to the barrier.

After all, a lot of people, including him, would be fighting in these areas. Furniture and plants were not appreciated in these zones. Rather, he kept his goblin/human-made items away from the barrier.

They would, however, maybe add some surfaces anchored to the trees so people could use them to hold stuff. Not everyone had spaces. What if they wanted to place their drinks, potions, and food somewhere near them?

The depth of the surfaces wouldn't be too deep, so people wouldn't hit them by accident, though he doubted people already within the barrier would be running around carelessly. The northern side was okay to maximize because it was sloped and dense. Even if monsters were there, they'd just have to lure them to other areas of the lot.

When he gained enough money to splurge on the gardens, he'd probably try to find a way to maximize the lots. He wondered how far vertically the effect of the garden could go? If he added platforms over the gardens, would the pots there also gain some advantages?

Well, that was something to experiment on at a later date.

After doing errands here and there, it was soon time to prepare for their lunch, with Ranran would begin helping him with the ingredients.

He also taught her more about cooking, bit by bit, and Tumble made her cute stairs and platforms so she could comfortably reach the counters.

Speaking of which, the goblins, when they gained weight (they seem to gain it fast as long as they were well fed), looked quite adorable.

They looked like those chubby green aliens from TV back when he was a kid, except they had noses, two eyes, and pointed ears, and no antenna.

Anyway, Ranran was learning well, especially if it was just simple few-ingredient dishes.

She could make jerky now by herself. Her essence food making was still very low, only one out of fifteen or twenty, but that was still more than many cooks out there.

In time, they'd probably be able to sell tons of jerky to their future customers without having to place purchase limits!

Anyway, the goblins were really good workers.

They were really passionate and could get quite talkative, which he'd get headaches, but they did good work and were sincere. It was quite endearing.

They were really the best hires so far!
