Defying the Fate of Beheading

Chapter 82: The Hero is Dead

Bang!

Accompanied by a loud explosion, the last Red Earth Dracolisk standing was directly beheaded.

Except for Louis, who had completed a tactical experiment, and Olivia, who had proven her magic power had dramatically increased, the expressions of the others didn't change much.

Chris crouched down, placed his hand on the Red Earth Dracolisk, and closed its eyes.

He hesitated for a moment and said:

"Something's wrong, these Red Earth Dracolisks seem to be..."

Klein stammered for a moment and directly said, "They came straight for us..."

Kriya scratched his iron helmet, "Big brother, second brother, what should I say?"

Chris/Klein: ...

The three brothers looked at each other, and finally, Chris said:

"You know, the Steel Soul style likes to examine human weaknesses. These monsters didn't focus their eyes on us while fighting."

"Hmm? To be accurate..."

Chris nodded, and his gaze instinctively lingered on Louis and Olivia for a moment.

Louis nodded, "I noticed, their killing intent towards me seemed almost tangible."

Then he secretly glanced at the little swan.

The little swan stared wide-eyed at him, "Why are you looking at me?"

Well, obviously the little swan hadn't noticed that she was one of those targeted by the Underground City creatures.

Finally, the head maid spoke up, "It's not important, but it does indicate one thing: The Thief Guild may not fully understand the situation of the underground ruins."

For a moment, the investigation seemed to have reached an impasse.

Suddenly, a body of a Red Earth Dracolisk on the ground twitched.

The dracolisk that unlocked the "No Chicken Talk" achievement suddenly jumped up, dragging its heavy body and dashed straight into the darkness, disappearing from everyone's sight.

"It's finally moving."

Louis murmured softly.

Ali said with a smile, "You, who are so envious of monster materials, actually let go of these creatures at your fingertips. What's your ulterior motive?"

"What do you mean by ulterior motive? How can adventurers' affairs be called ulterior motives?" Louis snorted, "…Besides, I'm not going to let them go."

Louis didn't notice at all that his mouth was now curling into a fascinated smile.

It was a smile resembling a devil enticing someone, or like a hungry beast smelling the scent of blood.

For him, bearing the "Sin of Greed," what kind of situation would make him willingly give up materials readily available?

The answer naturally is... to scheme for more and more valuable materials hidden in the background.

How else could he be "greedy"?

Louis calmly said:

"When do you think creatures can calmly lie in wait in the dark, like lurking hunters waiting for prey to enter?"

William frowned.

The Iron Guard's instincts made him uneasy.

Suddenly, the head maid looked up.

From the darkness came the sound of footsteps, sometimes near, sometimes far, accompanied by an old voice:

"Of course, it's when there's a real leader among them."

Under the dim green light shining, dozens of pairs of ghostly green eyes could vaguely be seen appearing in the dark.

One person, two people, three people...

Stealthy intruders emerged from the shadows.

The lowest level among them had LV8 skills.

The highest level elderly one... Louis surprisingly felt an aura akin to Captain Jino from him.

Lumi glanced at him and said, "Heisen Bansha, it's been a while."

An elderly man, slightly small, stepped out from the shadows:

"For a half-elf it has indeed been a while, for me, it's been 7 years already, long time no see, Lumi."

Lumi nodded calmly, turned to the others, and said:

"This is Heisen Bansha, now the President of the Thief Guild, and an acquaintance of mine."

President Heisen stroked his beard and laughed:

"If you hadn't come, we wouldn't have realized our home was about to be burgled, embarrassing, truly embarrassing!"

Lumi unexpectedly showed a disdainful expression:

"You truly embarrassed yourself this time. So many things have entered your stronghold and you didn't notice."

Heisen blew his beard and glared, saying:

"What could I do about it? You know how vast this underground ruin is, clearing from A1 area to C4 area thoroughly is already impressive."

Lumi snorted coldly, "Quit the nonsense. Tell us what you've discovered recently. Don't tell me your skills have gone to the Netherworld in just 60 years."

The little swan tugged at her head maid's coat, her eyes filled with "I'm very curious."

Lumi hesitated for a moment and said, "Just an acquaintance."

Heisen said with clear dissatisfaction, "How rude. After all, we were once part of the Hero Squad, fighting together."

Louis: "Hmm?"

Olivia: "Huh?"

Others: "What?"

Even the stealthy intruders in the dark said, "President, you've met a hero?"

President Heisen boasted, "What do you mean met? I even fought him before!"

The little swan was also shocked and turned to Lumi, suddenly bursting out:

"Lumi, how old are you exactly?"

Duang~

The little swan held her head and squatted down.

The head maid said expressionlessly, "18 years old."

"Lumi, half-elves mature at a different rate, not 18…" The little swan closed her mouth meekly, looking at the head maid's smiling expression, "Lumi is 18. I'm certain."

She added in her mind, "Or rather, 18 years and over thirty thousand days, right?"

The little swan, intimidated.

Lumi is scary today.

President Heisen said nothing and just chuckled while stroking his beard.

But obviously, he dared not provoke the head maid either.

Louis hesitated for a moment and finally asked:

"What about this generation's hero then?"

The reason he asked was mainly due to some concern; wouldn't he be in trouble with the hero once his "Sin of Greed" identity was exposed?

After all, the western fantasy hero might have that "must oppose evil at all costs" trait.

Being burdened with the Sin of Greed, in some sense, indeed considered gravely sinful.

Then, the response he got was Lumi's silence.

"The hero, died."

Heisen Bansha stated calmly.

"Forget it, let's not talk about this. Lumi, thank you for helping us again this time."

"The underground ruins are vast, comparable to Tino City; relying solely on us to find the hidden monsters here isn't easy."

"Moreover, you know the deepest part of the ruins is the emperor's designated forbidden zone."

Lumi nodded, "We will do our best on our side, your part..."

President Heisen said, "I'll have my deputy continue the search. The underground ruins have not been this lively for a long time. As for me, I'll follow with you. You don't mind, do you?"

Several people subconsciously looked at Louis.

Louis tilted his head slightly in his helmet, "Why are you looking at me? Let's decide together!"

...2 minutes later...

The members of the Thief Guild had already scattered.

President Heisen, leaning on a cane, followed them as they continued deeper.

Moving quickly through the darkness, Ali said in a deep voice:

"The distance between the Underground City and the ruins must be eighty thousand miles. For unique monsters to appear here, either someone intentionally brought them in, or there's a change in the Underground City that transported them directly here."

"We must be faster, swift and decisive."

She looked at Louis and asked, "Can you still sense the direction of the dracolisk's movement?"

Louis said, "Yes, Limuru is still quietly following it, it still has my steel needle pierced into it."

The steel needles pierced into the dracolisk's flesh were entwined with Louis's magic power.

Both Limuru and he could use their innate magic to sense and detect the dracolisk's path.

Only the little swan's expression grew more puzzled.

"That's strange; this direction is completely different from my memory of the ancient portal's direction!"
