After their breakfast, everyone went back to their work. They enjoyed the time spent together, but they still had their priorities. Things needed to be done if they wanted to progress, and they never let their relationships halt their progress.
Xiu took Cali outside Dusk City, somewhere unknown, where she could train her properly without worrying about their surroundings.
After all, things were bound to get disastrous if those two were training together.
The next to leave was Xavier. An Imperial Guard came personally to escort him to Michael.
Standing before the tall metal gates of the palace, Xavier gave everyone a tight hug. Aegon was last, so he hugged him a bit longer before pulling away.
Grinning widely, he said, "It'll be a while before we see each other. Look forward to it."
"Buddy, you aren't my girlfriend," Aegon pushed him away and said. "Why would I look forward to meeting you? Death seems more appealing."
Xavier's lips twitched at his comment as he took a deep breath and said, "Next time we meet, I'm going to be stronger than you. So work hard."
Aegon smiled and said his goodbyes as the Imperial Guard took Xavier away to the capital city. It would probably be months before they saw each other again, but that was fine as well. They were used to it.
The next to leave was Rosa. Her mentor was Rovan, so she was leaving with Nora. For that, though, they had to move to the back lawn, which was very spacious.
As they waited, Rosa came closer to Aegon and said, "You promised me something, remember?"
Aegon opened his mouth, then closed it instantly. He did remember it well, but the problem was something else. The decision was already made, so he didn't want to keep her hopes high.
But he was also breaking a promise this way. His chest felt heavy thinking of everything. He really didn't want to hurt Rosa, but there was no other way.
Even if he didn't tell others about this, she deserved to know.
"Look at you, worrying so much about me," Rosa laughed. "I told you once that I'll pursue you till you either accept me or find the love of your life. You've already made your choice, so I'll do my part too."
She turned towards him, her beautiful crimson locks fluttering in the air. Her gaze was resolute, not showing any signs of sadness or regret.
Instead, all Aegon saw in her gaze was pure happiness. It was to such a degree that he was taken aback.
'How?' he wanted to ask, but the words didn't come out of his mouth.
As if reading his mind, Rosa smiled and said, "The answer is pretty simple, no? I love you, and this fact won't change for eternity. For as long as my heart is alive, it'll always beat for you."
She gazed into the twilight sky above them and said,
"Love isn't about getting together with someone, but wanting to see them happy. If you're happy with her, then I'll naturally be happy for you as well. So don't dwell on it so much."
Aegon stared at her for a bit longer and then bowed his head. "Then, thanks for loving me. I'm grateful. I won't apologise for loving someone else, but I want you to know that this means a lot to me too."
"Don't get so emotional," Rosa chuckled and said, raising his head. "You look more handsome with your smile, not this brooding look."
Aegon couldn't help but smile at that.
"Also, I'll solve my stuff with Elara soon," she said, glancing back at the blonde elf. "Your decision helped a lot, though. So thanks for that."
A soft grin formed on her face as she said, "I'm curious about something. You said you'll dedicate your entire self to your love, right?"
"Naturally," Aegon nodded without hesitation. "If she's giving her everything to me, then I will do the same. A relationship goes both ways, and even though I know it's unrealistic to expect someone to give a hundred percent all the time, it's always good to try your best."
"Then you're in for a surprise," Rosa said, patting his shoulder. "Come to Slyvanna soon. Only there can we explain everything to you and get this matter sorted."
"It'll be the start of my journey," Aegon answered with a smile. "I won't take long."
Just then, a terrifying roar resounded in the vast, colourful skies as a majestic crimson dragon leaped down from the clouds. With a long neck and jagged horns at its crown, the dragon seemed to look down upon the world.
Nora's whistle made the dragon circle around the palace before landing in the clearing with a powerful thump.
"She's beautiful," Rosa said. "Mind giving me a dragon ride in the future?"
"On my dragon?" Aegon asked.
"Of course. I'm curious if your dragon will be as handsome as you," Rosa laughed before turning towards him and opening her arms wide. "At least give me a warm hug to console me. I might not show it, but I'm really hurt, you know."
Aegon stepped forward and enveloped her in a warm hug. He smiled lightly and said, "I really hope you get a wonderful life. And once again, thanks for everything. You'll always be a dear friend to me."
"I'll become more than that, and that's my promise," Rosa said. Then, taking a pause, she added, "You smell good, hehe. Wanna have break-up sex?"
Aegon rolled his eyes and knocked her on the head, making her giggles turn into joyful laughter.
Then she separated and said, "See you later in Slyvanna then, Aegon."
Aegon stood dazed on the spot as Rosa walked off towards Virginia. Nora was soon alongside her as they both jumped onto the saddle, properly tied around the dragon's neck.
Then Virginia leaped off with powerful gusts of wind surrounding her. She soared high into the sky as Nora skillfully rode on her back while Rosa clutched tightly behind her.
While Nora was riding, her entire focus was on Rosa, so she quickly noticed tears flying off in the rapid wind currents.
"You're crying?" she asked, startled at the sudden change.
"Am I not supposed to? Can't I even cry after losing the love of my life?" Rosa asked, burying her head into Nora's back. "He chose her. Not me. It's proven she's better than me, yet I thought all of my short life that I was better."
She buried her face further as Nora's back was soon drenched in her tears.
"Just let me cry for now. I promise I'll be better."
