Aegon held his breath as Liliana recounted everything. He couldn't help but shiver at her last words, as it was simply too chilling to imagine.
Rank 9 Beings were deemed as Demigods, wielding power closer to that of divinity. Every time they fought, the world was reshaped and pure devastation followed in its wake.
This was why Rank 9 Beings never fought unless it was absolutely necessary. Their sheer presence allowed a whole nation to persevere against deadly odds.
They were a sheer force of nature.
He wondered just what was going through Samuel's mind before he decided to forget everything and give in to his temper. Just how much was that old man suppressing that he couldn't hold back any longer?
Was his kidnapping really the trigger?
Aegon knew the answer already. He knew Samuel felt guilty and burdened toward House Augustus, as they sacrificed their lives and future for the sake of the Empire he ruled. He couldn't do anything but sit on his throne and watch everyone give up their lives, while he remained like a puppet, unable to do anything.
He felt he owed House Augustus way too much, so the moment the Demons dared to snatch away a young life from their house, it broke his suppressed barrier.
"Supposedly, they didn't fight for long. Only a few seconds of their clash were enough to kill thousands of demons. The Emperor used his intelligence even during his raging moment and killed a vast majority of demons while keeping most humans alive. It probably took a toll on his body, but he succeeded and brought humanity a quick victory."
Liliana heaved a sigh and said.
"By then, however, it was already too late as the Demons had achieved their goal. Mom was too attached to her family, so she kept an eye on their safety all the time. I don't know how, but she got to know about the situation and stopped her ritual midway to search for you."
She turned towards him and said after a moment.
"She found you using her mystical ways. The ones who helped the Demons in kidnapping you were none other than Wind Cloud Mansion, one of the oldest Clans of the Great Solar Empire. Apparently, they've been colluding with the Demons all this time, except they never contacted each other directly."
"A reserved force. A back-up bomb planted years before," Aegon hissed. "The whole clan was a fucking ticking bomb."
Liliana nodded.
"Yes. Planted thousands of years ago, so no one could predict it was them. At first, they were planning to bait Mom out using you, but they saw something which changed everything in their plan."
"My eyes," Aegon whispered.
"Yes," Liliana nodded yet again. "They learned that the newborn baby in their hands was a Valerian, the ticket to control all dragons and all of the Triana Continent. When the Demons heard it, they changed the plans to teleport you to the Demon King, even if it included the ire of House Valeria."
Aegon shrank back in his seat as he thought how close he was to becoming a puppet of the Demons, the inhumane entities who knew no empathy or love.
He was so close to living a similar life as before, but infinitely worse. How ironic was it that he almost became the same as before, used by others simply because he was born with special blood.
Fear gripped him as the possibility continued to revolve around in his mind. The trauma of his previous life came over him, filling his entire being with primal fear.
The cold rooms of the hospital, the numerous holes in his body, doctors wearing those white clothes. Everything became dream-like before him, as he lived through those memories yet again.
'No! Please! No! I don't want this! Not this! I hate it! Xiu! El! Opa! Someone please save me!'
"Aegon! Aegon!"
The dream-like memory lane shattered as he heard Liliana's concern-filled voice and her arms shaking him. He slowly turned to look at her frantic face and froze.
Liliana cupped his face and said, her voice trembling, "It's fine! Everything is fine. I am here, baby. I am here. Please, don't worry. Nobody is going to take you away. I'll chase them away."
Aegon didn't know what came over him, but he was in no situation to think properly as he buried himself in her warm embrace. It was strange really, considering Liliana was very cold, but all he could feel from her was warmth.
She softly caressed his back and continued to whisper in his ears, trying to make sure he understood that she was there for him.
Her actions seemed to work, as Aegon slowly calmed down and regained clarity. Still, even then he felt his blood running cold just by thinking how close he was to living the same life yet again.
'It's not the same, Aegon, so why are you so worried? In your previous life, you were all alone, but not this time. You are strong enough to defend yourself, but there are also many people who care deeply about you. They'll defend you.'
He reminded himself and then slowly backed away, leaving Liliana's cold embrace. Taking a deep breath, he asked, "Strange, why are you so cold... and why did the coldness feel so warm?"
"First tell me, how are you?" Liliana asked, taking his hand in hers. "Are you alright? Should we go outside and let a proper apothecary check you? Yes. That's the best option. We can't take any risks. Let's go!"
"Calm down!" Aegon pulled her down when she stood up to leave. "And please forget what you just saw. I can't explain it even though I want to."
Liliana stared at him for a moment longer before her brows quivered as she muttered, "You remember everything, don't you? Your perfect memory made you remember moments even from the day you were born."
She gasped. "You remember everything that happened to you that day... everything!"
Aegon pursed his lips and nodded. Well, it wasn't a lie since he did remember that day very clearly. And it also became the perfect excuse for his sudden seizure.
That day was indeed very traumatic.
