Getting Stronger By Fighting

Chapter 438 Guarding the City! _1

The Beast Clan was in Quan State. They were preparing for a fight-to-the-death war with humans, who wielded both firearms and the martial arts. Unfortunately, Quan State City's greatest disadvantage at this moment was that their preparations for the attack were incomplete; they were almost defenseless. Furthermore, they not only lacked outside assistance, but even their basic reserve forces were far too few!

After all, one only needed to look beneath the city walls at the beasts swarming the surroundings of Quan State City, gathering and beginning their attack. Their numbers were well into the millions! Even if one human could kill ten beasts, with the current strength of Quan State City—a couple of hundred thousand regular army units, plus two hundred thousand reserve units—they could only kill just over half the beasts. At least half of the Beast Clan group would remain untouched.

This is clearly a meaningless slaughter, not the siege battle we initially envisioned!

So, it was painfully clear that Quan State, despite the battle having just begun, was already teetering on the brink of failure, merely awaiting a fiercer, unstoppable enemy assault. Thus, the situation in Quan State City was becoming increasingly perilous.

Therefore, Jin Botao once again slowly lifted his head, glancing around. He looked at the blood-stained crowds and the beast corpses carted into the city as emergency rations. Then, steeling his resolve, he decisively bellowed, "Go! Inform all noble families! There are no rules of precedence now! Everyone in Quan State must prepare for battle! If we can't hold Quan State City, we all die! Dispatch a letter to the Federation immediately—Quan State needs reinforcements!"

Quan State needed reinforcements!

This was Jin Botao's stark realization after nearly an hour on the city wall, an epiphany forced upon him by the grim, spiraling situation and the ever-increasing number of enemy troops. He looked at the Beast Clan group beneath him, already gathered in full force. But who knew how many such massive Beast Clan groups were hidden across the vast Earth Federation! And who could guarantee that these cautious and secretive major groups living in the wilderness wouldn't be summoned by their kings for this Quan State catastrophe? Even Jin Botao found it somewhat incredible, but given the current situation, it was entirely possible! Therefore, this had to be a premeditated attack!

Simultaneously, the Beast Clan's determination and decisiveness had caught the entire Federation by surprise. After all, nobody could have imagined that the Beast Clan would audaciously ignite another war on Earth Federation territory, aiming to open a second front and fight on two battlefields simultaneously! Even the threat of a massive counterattack from the Federation, a force that could be lurking anywhere, didn't deter the huge armies amassed by dozens of Beast Clan groups. Their sole aim was to conquer a city and then annihilate it!

Since the Federation's inception, no one had ever witnessed such an event! Yet today, Jin Botao, a man with one foot already in the grave, had the misfortune of witnessing it—this tragic, yet magnificent and increasingly turbulent spectacle!

The tragedy lay in the grim future he foresaw. The magnificence, however, stemmed from something else. One should know, if the Beast Clan failed this time and, in doing so, lured out the formidable forces hidden within the Earth Federation, then this event would undoubtedly become a prime opportunity for the Federation to undergo a painful but transformative cleansing—like scraping bone to heal a wound, leading to a complete rebirth! Because this time, the enemy wasn't bothering to hide. The Human Race could finally cleanse the Earth Federation of these roaming Beast Clan groups.

However, although Jin Botao realized this, after comparing the Federation's likely response with the movements of the vast Beast Clan group before him, analyzing and pondering their strategies, he could only sigh with bitter resignation. He had to acknowledge an unalterable fact. If the enemy could maintain this offensive and continue their relentless assault, even for just a day and a night—barely enough time for the Federation to mobilize forces and send aid to Quan State—Quan State would already be on the brink of collapse! It might even be utterly defeated, beyond any hope of recovery. That was their plan, wasn't it? To crush with overwhelming power, a force that no one could stop…

Yet, Jin Botao simply couldn't comprehend it. Why had things escalated to such an irredeemable point? Why had the once-inconspicuous Quan State become the primary target for the Beast Clan groups' first rare, large-scale mobilization?

Of course, things had already reached this stage. Further speculation was pointless.

Fortunately, regardless of the reasons, Jin Botao had resolved to go all-in this time, even if it meant bankrupting all of Quan State! His sole objective: defend the city! Defend until the last bullet was fired and the last grain of food consumed! Defend until reinforcements from the Federation arrived! Defend until everyone understood their desperate plight! Defend until the entire Federation thoroughly understood from this battle that perhaps, starting from this day, the Beast Tides of the Beast Clan were no longer the simple, almost harmless phenomena they once appeared to be. Now, a single misstep, a moment of carelessness, could lead to the annihilation of an entire human city, its people lost!

After all, even though the Human Race had Grandmasters, Martial Kings, and even Martial Emperor level experts guarding the Earth Federation and suppressing all threats, the enemy's numbers had clearly reached a point where they could simply choose to disregard all reason, to flip the table and charge forward with brute force.

Therefore, what difference would it make even if reinforcements arrived swiftly? As long as the enemy meticulously planned and chose a suitable target, then even if the Human Race was eager to fight, they would be powerless without a clear objective once that target was lost! This was something everyone needed to be deeply vigilant about!

Meanwhile, a Federation employee who had just received the latest news about the students immediately reported to Jin Botao, "State Governor, those students have started adapting to culling the beasts! One beast has already fallen at their hands!"

After Jin Botao saw the picture and the students' reactions depicted, he immediately ordered, "Have our people step forward and tell those students to stop messing around! We need them! Quan State needs them! Also, relay my message to all school Principals: have them immediately send all students who have embarked on the Martial Arts Path to the top of the city wall!"

However, upon hearing Jin Botao's command, the staff around him—those analyzing the battle, directing responses, and patching weaknesses in the city wall—were utterly shocked. Their expressions changed drastically. One person vehemently objected, attempting to dissuade Jin Botao, "State Governor, that's the fruit of your long-term planning, those precious seedlings! Are you going to throw it all away now?"

A few junior high students weren't a major issue in themselves. However, a junior high program capable of consistently producing Martial Students was of undeniable, paramount importance to the entire Federation! Consider this: even students from the Federal Martial Arts Academy, like Wang Zhan's cohort, typically only became Martial Students at seventeen. But now? The age at which Quan State's younger generation could become Martial Artists had dropped to fifteen, fourteen, thirteen... and was still decreasing! They had already surpassed all previous Federation records, advancing the age at which the Federation's Martial Artists embarked on their Martial Arts Path by a full four to five years! This was a monumental miracle!

However, if Jin Botao's command were carried out, it wouldn't take long before these 'seeds'—the very talents he had striven to hide and protect—would be reduced to unnoticed ashes on the ground outside Quan State City! Their only contribution would be to make the flowers and grasses outside Quan State City flourish more abundantly the following year! This wasn't just a tremendous loss for Quan State; it was a colossal loss for the Federation! One should know that any Martial Artist, provided they could mature and possessed decent talent, had the potential to become a powerful Grandmaster, a mighty Martial King, or even a revered Martial Emperor level expert! Such individuals could be considered the guardian deities of a city. Yet now, this tangible hope was about to be snuffed out, reduced to meaningless ashes in the blink of an eye, all under Jin Botao's command and watch!

However, it wasn't as if Jin Botao didn't understand this reasoning! But the enemy's onslaught was relentless! What difference would any further concessions make? This was a fight to the death. Quan State would either be annihilated in this Beast Tide Attack or rise, reborn from the flames! Furthermore, since he had decided to wager everything, holding back even a single 'pawn' would be an insult to his enemies and a betrayal of his own resolve. Moreover, though they were students, they first had to remember a fundamental truth: even if they were geniuses, they were first and foremost citizens of Quan State! This wasn't an opportunity they had earned themselves. It was an opportunity that he, Jin Botao, the State Governor of Quan State, had fought tooth and nail to secure for these children—children who had managed to become Martial Students and embark on the Martial Arts Path at such a tender age. It was the greatest chance he could offer them. Therefore, Jin Botao believed he had the right. Therefore, his conscience was clear.

Thus, Jin Botao made his decision without hesitation. His eyes were cold and indifferent as he met the doubtful, wavering gazes of everyone present.
