「The next day.」
After the family finished breakfast, Zhou Cuilan announced, "Your Eldest Aunt invited us over for a meal. Let's all go."
Zhao Lizhen and Zhang Fuyong were about to protest, but Zhou Cuilan just smiled and said firmly, "We're all going!"
Eldest Aunt had the best relationship with Lin Dashan and always thought of her little brother. Just last night, the couple had been saying they should visit her at Yu Zheng's house when they had some free time.
Lin Dashan declared he wouldn't take the RV, insisting on driving the SUV instead.
"Dad, I'll go with you. Take me for a spin before we see Eldest Aunt," Lin Feng said.
Lin Dashan chuckled. "Sounds good, I was thinking the same thing."
Zhang Fuyong cleared his throat. "Count me in."
And so, the three men left ahead of time. The two women looked on, a mix of amusement and annoyance on their faces. "Well, let's get going too."
By the time they reached the old house, the meal was almost ready. The couple, Yu Zheng and Sun Rou, had done most of the cooking, with Eldest Aunt just helping out here and there. This time, Third Uncle and his wife, as well as Second Uncle and his wife, had also come. Among the younger generation, only Lin Jiajun was present. Wang Lu hadn't come, as she had gone to visit her own parents on the second day of the New Year. As for Feng Yong and Lin Xiaolan, it went without saying. They simply called to say they couldn't make it, without even offering a reason. Lin Rui had also gone with his wife to visit her parents.
"Let's eat! I didn't really cook anything; it was all Yu Zheng and Sun Rou," Eldest Aunt said warmly.
Sun Rou's cooking skills were passable, but Yu Zheng was actually a little better than her.
During the meal, Lin Feng received a call from Jiang Anmin, who invited him out for fishing and tea in the afternoon, mentioning he had all the gear.
Lin Feng asked, "Aren't you with your girlfriend at your future in-laws' place today?"
"I'm right here!"
"I'll think about it. I'll get back to you after I finish eating," Lin Feng replied.
"Okay."
Zhang Yuxi casually asked, "Who was that?"
"Jiang Anmin. He invited me to go fishing."
"You should go," Zhang Yuxi said. "We still haven't properly thanked him for helping us with the car."
Lin Feng hesitated for a moment before nodding.
Zhou Cuilan quickly chimed in, "You're usually the one taking care of the children. During the New Year holiday, you can go wherever you like. We'll be here to watch them."
Zhao Lizhen added, "You live in Yangcheng and aren't here very often, so it's good to keep in touch with your friends." A man who stays home with his kids all day still needs a social life.
It wasn't that Lin Feng didn't trust them with the babies. He just couldn't bear to be away from them.
"Alright, I'll head out this afternoon and try to be back early," he conceded.
Zhou Cuilan smiled. "Take Yuxi with you."
He didn't need the reminder; he would have brought her along anyway.
After lunch, Lin Feng called Jiang Anmin back.
"Where are we going fishing?"
"There's a commercial fish pond. You just pay a fee to fish there."
Nearby, Lin Dashan quickly interjected, "Go to the Mei River! The fish there are wild. They're the best for making soup for the little ones."
Zhou Cuilan immediately agreed. "Yes, wild is better! None of that farm-raised stuff."
Overhearing the conversation, Jiang Anmin sounded a bit troubled. "To fish on the Mei River, we'd need a boat. Let me see if I can rent one, though I doubt it. It's the New Year, so everyone is celebrating. I'll try my best, though."
Lin Feng suddenly remembered his new toy. "No need to rent. I have a boat."
Jiang Anmin was stunned on the other end of the line. "Huh? You have a boat?"
"Meet me at East Bank Berth 2. Give me a call before you head out," Lin Feng instructed.
"Oh, okay."
After hanging up, Lin Dahu put down his chopsticks. "You and your friend are going fishing?"
Lin Feng caught his drift. "Coming with us, Second Uncle?"
Just last night, his uncle had mentioned that a sunny day was perfect for fishing, and today's weather was indeed beautiful.
Lin Dahu chuckled. "I have several fishing rods and all the bait we'll need. I'll go get them now. Wait for me!"
In recent years, after recovering from a long illness, he had taken up fishing, much like other retired men. What started as a simple pastime had blossomed into a full-blown hobby. His fishing rods had been upgraded from costing a few dozen yuan to several hundred. Forgetting he was in the middle of a meal, he hurried to the entryway to change his shoes. "Wait for me! I'll be back in half an hour at most."
Lin Feng grunted in acknowledgment.
Zhang Fuyong cleared his throat. "Ahem, bring a rod for me, too."
Lin Dahu then turned to the remaining brothers, Lin Dashan and Lin Daan. "You guys coming? Let's all go fishing!"
"Fishing at the Mei River sounds so relaxing! We might even catch a big one."
Lin Daan's interest was piqued. "Let's go! I'm in." Though he wasn't a skilled fisherman, that did nothing to dampen his enthusiasm for joining in.
Lin Dashan had never actually fished before; he wasn't even an amateur. He was usually too busy with work to have the leisure time for such activities. But since everyone else was going, he felt a lonely sense of being left out if he didn't join.
"Let's go! I'm coming too!"
With the men's plans settled, what about the women?
Zhou Cuilan asked them, "What about us? What should we do?"
Lin Feng suggested, "Why don't we have a barbecue on the yacht? Or maybe a small hot pot?"
After a brief discussion, they decided it was a great idea.
Second Aunt laughed. "You young people enjoy your barbecue. We'll have a small hot pot."
Since they were in an old district, there was an open-air farmers market right behind the house. Even on the second day of the New Year, some vendors were open, though prices were two to three times higher than usual. As for the barbecue grill, Third Aunt's son, Lin Jiajun, had used one before, so they could easily swing by their place to pick it up after getting groceries.
By the time they had gathered everything and were ready to go, two hours had passed.
Jiang Anmin and his girlfriend were already waiting at Berth No. 2. From a distance, he saw Lin Feng approaching with a huge group of people. They were carrying food, a barbecue grill, and even a portable induction cooktop. Jiang Anmin was completely bewildered.
This kind of place must have rules against barbecuing, right? Did Lin Feng mistakenly think we could have a barbecue here?
Lin Feng made a simple introduction for everyone. "This is Jiang Anmin, my old high school classmate, and this is his girlfriend, Su Qiqi."
"Hello, Uncles and Aunts!" the young couple said politely.
The group chatted and laughed as they walked toward the yacht, with Jiang Anmin and Su Qiqi trailing at the very back. When they finally stepped aboard the vessel, the expressions on both their faces screamed the same thing.
Who am I? Where am I? What am I doing?
Having familiarized themselves with the yacht the day before, everyone else knew what to do and went about their business. Lin Feng, meanwhile, took the helm himself. He'd learned from the captain last night that the system was mostly automated. After inputting their current location, the satellite system provided a navigation map. All he had to do was steer it like a car.
Lin Feng slowly guided the yacht out of the berth.
The three Lin brothers, along with Zhang Fuyong, found spots at four different points on the yacht and started fishing. The women, meanwhile, were busy preparing the food. Su Qiqi offered to help but was kindly turned down, so she could only follow Jiang Anmin around, looking at the yacht in awe. When they learned from Second Aunt that Lin Feng had bought it, the couple was so shocked their jaws nearly dropped.
Lin Feng found a spot for himself, baited his hook with some fish feed, and cast his line. After failing several times, he suddenly called out playfully, "I was just looking for you. Weren't you the one who invited me fishing? Where have you been?"
Jiang Anmin came over and swapped out his bait and hook. "This one is for small fish. To catch big ones, you need a larger hook. This bait won't work either; you need this kind..."
With a flick of his wrist, Jiang Anmin sent the line flying far out into the water. It was clear he was an expert.
Lin Feng took the rod back and sat down on a small stool.
At that moment, Lin Dashan, who was just as clueless about fishing, had been listening intently. "Young man, could you give me a hand and set mine up too?"
"No problem, Uncle."
Jiang Anmin chose a spot next to Lin Feng. He had originally just wanted a quiet afternoon of fishing with his old friend. He never expected so many people to show up and turn it into such a grand affair. He was also getting a firsthand look at how incredibly wealthy and yet low-key Lin Feng was.
This man, his own age, was so much more successful than him. A wave of complex feelings washed over Jiang Anmin.
Before long, Lin Feng's rod started to twitch. "Is that a fish on the line?"
Jiang Anmin rushed over to help him pull in the rod. "Whoa, this one's definitely big!"
When they reeled it in, they saw it was a grass carp weighing well over three pounds. The others hurried over to take a look.
"Wow, that's not small at all."
Zhou Cuilan emerged from the galley kitchen. "Lin Feng, are you cooking it, or should I?" Her son's fish dishes were the most delicious.
"I'll do it."
Lin Feng switched to a smaller hook, planning to catch some little fish for the babies.
Seeing Lin Feng's catch, the others, like Lin Daan, were filled with envy. It only strengthened their resolve to catch a fish of their own. Lin Dashan, in particular, had a look of eager anticipation on his face.
