My College Teacher is My Children's Mom

Chapter 166: The Cat Team Accomplishes a Great Feat

"Whimper, whimper, whimper..."

Hearing the sound from the bushes, Lin Feng thought, It must be a puppy.

He wasn't sure, so he carefully peered over to have a look. He could vaguely make out a thoroughly filthy dog, but he couldn't tell its exact condition. He hesitated for a moment, took off his coat, and then cautiously approached, afraid the dog might suddenly turn and bite him.

"Don't be afraid, little one. I won't hurt you..."

Feifei meowed from the side.

Lin Feng placed his phone in his chest pocket and, guided by feel, lifted the dog from the bushes.

How should I describe it? It was incredibly light. Through the coat, he could feel its ribs and its trembling body.

When he walked under a streetlight, he confirmed it was a dog. Its fur was completely matted and so filthy he couldn't get a clear look at it.

Those eyes... They were just heart-wrenching.

He had never owned a dog, so he didn't know what breed it was.

Taking it home isn't an option right now, but I can't just leave it here. A pet hospital is the only choice.

Lin Feng placed the dog to the side and instructed Feifei, "You watch it. I'm going to get my scooter." He said it without knowing if the cat could understand.

A short while later, he returned with the scooter to find them both still there. He put the dog on the scooter's footboard and put Feifei on a leash. He then searched for a nearby pet hospital and took the two little creatures with him. He held Feifei in his arms to keep it from running off.

It was about a half-hour ride on the scooter to a 24-hour pet hospital. Lin Feng called the number from their advertisement.

"Hello, this is Rui Pet Hospital. How can I help you?"

If I remember correctly, this Rui Pet Hospital is part of a chain.

"Yes, hello. I found a stray dog, and it's in pretty bad shape," he explained. "I'm on my way now, so I hope you can wait for me."

The person on the other end chuckled lightly. "Don't worry, we're open 24 hours a day."

"Good. I'll be there in twenty minutes."

"We'll be waiting for you."

Twenty minutes later, Lin Feng arrived at the pet hospital where a nurse in a green uniform was already waiting at the door.

"This is it..." Lin Feng carried the dog, still wrapped in his coat, into the lobby.

The nurse put on gloves and unwrapped the coat, revealing the dog. It was nothing but skin and bones, its fur matted and caked with dirt. Facing the nurse, it only whimpered softly, looking completely drained of energy.

The nurse called over the on-duty doctor. After an initial examination, the doctor said with a serious expression, "This dog is in very poor condition. We need to do blood tests, take X-rays, and run a few other diagnostics. If its condition is serious, it will need to be hospitalized. This will be a very expensive procedure, so you need to decide whether or not to proceed with treatment."

The doctor was blunt. In his eyes, Lin Feng was just a student and might not realize that veterinary care wasn't cheap—in fact, it could be quite expensive. A college student likely wouldn't have the financial means.

Without a second of hesitation, Lin Feng said, "Save it!"

The look in that dog's eyes is tearing me apart. How could I possibly not save it?

The doctor immediately arranged for X-rays and various lab tests, including blood and stool samples.

"You'll need to pay a deposit of six thousand," the nurse said.

Lin Feng scanned the payment code. Then he added, "This is my cat. Please give it a full check-up as well. We have children at home, and I'm worried since my cat was in contact with the dog."

The nurse nodded in understanding. "Alright."

The results of Feifei's examination came back completely normal. This was a good sign, as it meant there was a high chance the stray dog didn't have any contagious diseases.

An hour later, the test results for the dog came back. Its primary issues were severe malnutrition and multiple infected wounds on its body. The doctor instructed the nurse to shave the dog's fur, saying he would be back later to administer an IV drip and feed it some liquid food. After giving his instructions, the doctor noted that the dog was lucky; it knew how to take care of itself.

"Earlier this year, we had a dog in a similar condition. It was riddled with diseases and only lasted three days. We examined its stomach and found no foreign objects; it had protected itself well. Still, it's lucky you brought it in when you did. One more day, and it probably wouldn't have made it..."

Lin Feng breathed a sigh of relief and stroked Feifei's head. You really saved the day this time! "Feifei, you were great!" he said out loud.

Through a glass window, he could see the shaved dog. It was little more than a skeleton, a pitiful sight. As the doctor administered the IV, the dog whimpered softly but didn't struggle, either because it was too weak or because it had a gentle nature. With the IV drip in, the doctor prepared some liquid food. The dog tilted its head, struggling to eat.

After everything was done, the doctor told Lin Feng, "It will need to be hospitalized for at least ten days."

Lin Feng nodded.

"According to hospital policy, you'll need to cover any subsequent costs," the doctor explained. "We will notify you if anything changes, and we'll settle the difference later."

Lin Feng paid for ten days of hospitalization, medication, and other fees. By the time he was done, it was past three in the morning.

Crap! It's time to take the babies to the potty.

Lin Feng quickly rode his electric scooter home. After arriving, he took a quick shower and went up to the third floor.

"Yuxi?"

As he entered the room, he saw a drowsy Zhang Yuxi helping the babies use the toilet. She snapped awake the moment he came in.

"I just finished helping the babies," she said, placing the third baby back into the crib. "Honey, where did you go?"

Lin Feng wrapped his arms around her and began to tell her about the events of the evening. As he spoke, Feifei walked elegantly to its cat bed, found a comfortable position, and settled down to sleep.

"I always see stories like this on TikTok," Zhang Yuxi said. "I never thought something like this would happen to us."

Lin Feng thought back to the dog's condition. "Animals really are sentient creatures."

Hearing about the dog, Zhang Yuxi felt a wave of sympathy. "It seems like this dog was fated to meet us. Let's adopt it once it gets better."

"I was thinking the same thing."
