My College Teacher is My Children's Mom

Chapter 201 Columbus Discovers the New World

As everyone was admiring the villa's beautiful scenery, the babies in the stroller began to wake up. Lin Feng carried them into the yard to play, and they were absolutely delighted.

"Lin Feng," Zhou Cuilan suggested, "you could install some children's play equipment in the yard and lay down some of that soft track material. The children would definitely have a wonderful time."

"Yes, yes," she added. "A big yard like this is perfect for them to play in."

Zhang Yuxi was already getting impatient. "Honey, let's move in tonight!" The villa was fully furnished and ready to go.

Zhou Cuilan felt a pang of bittersweetness. She was reluctant to part with her son and daughter-in-law, and even more so with her grandbabies. But children grow up and eventually leave the nest to build their own homes. No matter how parents tried to hold on, the day of parting would always come.

Zhao Lizhen gently patted Zhou Cuilan's arm as if to comfort her. "Don't rush to move in yet," she said with a smile. "We need to tidy up this yard first, so the babies don't stumble and hurt themselves while they're chasing each other around."

"Right!" Zhou Cuilan quickly added. "And the corridor and balcony on the second floor! We need to install safety railings on those. It would be terrible if one of the babies fell while they were playing."

Zhang Yuxi slapped her forehead. "Look at me, getting so excited that I completely forgot about all these important things."

Lin Feng was supervising the babies as they played, terrified they might fall, get scraped, or bump into something. Sure enough, Si Bao, the fastest runner with the wobbliest steps, suddenly tumbled to the ground. Lin Feng rushed over and immediately scooped him up.

"Quick, let Daddy have a look!"

Zhang Yuxi hurried over as well. Aside from a scraped knee, he wasn't injured anywhere else.

Si Bao wasn't one to cry easily. He just pouted, looking up at Lin Feng with a wronged expression.

Lin Feng soothed him, "It's alright, it doesn't hurt, it doesn't hurt! We're a little man, aren't we? If we fall, we just get right back up. It's okay!"

Si Bao's little lip quivered. "Dada..."

Holding him close, Lin Feng cooed, "Good boy, good boy. When we go back, Daddy will clean it with some iodine, and you'll be all better."

Just as he was being comforted, Si Bao turned his head, let out a giggle, and toddled off to chase after Da Bao.

Very good. My son is very strong. Lin Feng thought.

Si Bao and Da Bao were now playing a game of tag. San Bao, meanwhile, was fascinated by the flowers in the flowerbed, so Zhang Yuxi held her. She brought a rose over to her. "San Bao, smell this. Doesn't this flower smell nice?"

San Bao leaned in and took a whiff. "It smells so good!"

Hearing this, Er Bao called out, "Mommy, what smells good? What smells good?"

Lin Feng lifted her up. "Come and smell this flower!"

Er Bao sniffed with all her might. "It smells so nice! But not as nice as Mommy. Mommy smells the best."

Normally, Er Bao was a complete tomboy, but she had a silver tongue, as if her lips were coated in honey. Zhang Yuxi couldn't help but laugh.

"Mommy, Da Bao wants to smell, too! Da Bao, too!"

"Come on, let Da Bao have a sniff."

After smelling the flower, Da Bao's expression turned a little strange, like a miniature adult. "It's... okay, I guess."

While things were lively over here, San Bao had squatted down and was staring intently at the ground. Curious, Zhao Lizhen walked over to see what had captured her attention and immediately broke into a smile.

"Oh, so our San Bao is watching the little ants! Aren't they cute? But don't touch them, okay? They might bite your little hand."

Si Bao, who was about to smell the flower, heard the word "ants" and came pattering over.

"Ants? Where are the ants? Let me see, let me see..."

Then, he yelled at the top of his lungs, "Ants! There are ants here!"

The babies were filled with curiosity for any and all small creatures. Hearing Si Bao's shout, they all came running over. The yard was paved with stone slabs, and little ants were crawling out from the cracks between them. The babies watched, completely captivated and amazed.

Seeing that it was getting late, the group decided it was time to head back and prepare lunch. The midday sun would be out soon, and it would get terribly hot. They left, taking the babies with them, though the children's minds were still on the little ants.

"How about this," Zhou Cuilan said. "I'll go back and clean out that old fish tank. You two can go to the market and buy some little turtles and goldfish." Since the children loved small animals so much, they might as well put the fish tank to good use.

Lin Dashan added, "I think there's a flower and bird market not far from here. You could check it out."

Zhou Cuilan wrinkled her nose. "Don't go there. That place stinks to high heaven. Just go to an aquarium and buy some goldfish and turtles."

Lin Feng nodded. "Alright."

「...」

There was an aquarium nearby. When the couple entered the store with the babies, the little ones nearly went wild, hopping up and down with excitement.

"So many fishies!"

"Wow, that fish is so pretty! Daddy, Mommy, can we buy it, please?"

"That fish is so big, so, so big! Daddy, can we buy this big fish?"

"Mommy, this fish is so tiny, tiny, tiny! It's as small as an ant! I can't even see it!"

The babies pressed their faces against the glass tanks, their eyes wide with curiosity. They looked like they were dying to dive in, scoop out the fish, and play with them, all of them urging Lin Feng to buy, buy, buy.

The owner was very enthusiastic. After asking the couple about the size of their fish tank, he recommended some easy-to-keep fish, along with aquatic plants and an oxygen pump. They also bought a few little turtles and headed home with their bountiful haul.

In the car, the babies chattered away in their own language.

"I saw a weally, weally big fishy!"

"Aww, so tiny, so bitty-black and tiny... wike an ant."

"One fishie was gwowing... glowing..."

Seeing them babbling in their cute baby voices, Zhang Yuxi couldn't help but smile. With the four of them chattering at once, she could only make out a word or two here and there. The rest was all guesswork.

「...」

When they got back home, Zhou Cuilan had already cleaned the aquarium. Lin Feng began setting it up according to the owner's instructions. The four babies crowded around, their eyes wide with curiosity.

"Dada, what's dat?"

"Dada, why you put that in?"

"Hurry, hurry, Dada! I wanna see the fishies!"

"I wanna see the wittle turtles! The turtles are the cutest!"

Whenever the babies' sentences got too long or they spoke too quickly, their words became slurred. But Lin Feng could guess what they were trying to say nine times out of ten. As he worked, his ears were filled with the sound of his little treasures scrambling to ask questions. Yet he remained perfectly calm, patiently answering every single one.

Once the fish tank was set up, he carefully placed the fish inside. The babies gathered around the tank, watching them swim back and forth. They immediately started another discussion in their own unique toddler language.

Zhao Lizhen pulled up a small stool and sat down. "What are you all talking about? Can Grandma listen in?"

Si Bao pointed at one of the fish. "That one. That one's pretty."

Zhao Lizhen feigned surprise. "Wow, you're right! It's so beautiful. Who bought it?"

Er Bao eagerly chimed in from the side, "Daddy bought it! Daddy bought them all!"

"And do you like them?"

"Super, su-su-super like them!"

At just one year old, the babies could already say so much and clearly express their feelings. Zhao Lizhen thought they were absolutely amazing.

For the next few days, the fish tank became the center of the babies' universe. They would squat in front of it for ages, never seeming to get enough of the view, looking just like Columbus discovering the New World.
