「Arriving at the Mall」
Shan Ni led Zhang Yuxi into a high-end jewelry store. The staff were all familiar with Shan Ni and greeted her warmly the moment she walked in.
Shan Ni boasted to Zhang Yuxi, "I'm a VIP member here. I shop here all the time! I've spent at least several tens of millions."
She then introduced Zhang Yuxi to the staff. "This is my dear friend, whom I haven't seen in years. Bring out all your latest designs for us to see!"
Several sales associates happily scurried off. "Right away!"
The luxury goods here came with significant discounts, all thanks to a certain Mr. S.
Since An Lan was already planning to go on a shopping spree, she decided to buy a few pieces of jewelry she liked as well. I can wear them for now, and they'll make a nice gift for my future daughter-in-law when I'm old!
Her husband wasn't with her, so she browsed around the store on her own. Wang Lu came over and asked, "See anything you like?"
Lin Jiajun had already given her his card, telling her to buy whatever caught her eye. He was now sitting on a sofa, scrolling through his phone.
Meanwhile, Lin Feng was holding their little girl, Xiao Bao, and admiring the jewelry with her. Good heavens, who knew a child this young would already be fascinated by these dazzling things.
An Lan covered her mouth with a laugh. "Oh, yes. I wish I could buy everything in this store, but alas, I'm just a poor woman with no money!"
Wang Lu beckoned her over. "I've got my eye on a pair of earrings. Come give me your opinion."
"Let me see!"
As the two of them were examining the earrings, Zhang Yuxi called them over to look at the new collection. The staff had laid out every single one of the latest arrivals.
Zhang Yuxi smiled. "Come see if there's anything you like!"
An Lan and Wang Lu sat down beside her. "Let's see what they've got!"
Shan Ni, meanwhile, picked out the most expensive necklace in the display. "What about this one?" It was set primarily with pink diamonds, but the center stone was particularly eye-catching, looking to be at least ten carats.
Zhang Yuxi thought it was beautiful, but not quite her style. My children are already so grown up; pink doesn't seem very appropriate for me anymore. She shook her head. "I don't think it's right for me."
Without asking, Shan Ni draped the necklace around Zhang Yuxi's neck. "See? Isn't it gorgeous!" Her words were laced with a sour, reluctant envy because Zhang Yuxi looked genuinely stunning in it.
I really need to find out her skincare secrets, Shan Ni thought. She looks impossibly young.
Zhang Yuxi looked at her reflection in the mirror. Wow, it actually looks pretty good!
The nearby sales associate was very persuasive. "Wow, what excellent taste! Madam, you look absolutely beautiful in that necklace."
Zhang Yuxi turned to ask An Lan and Wang Lu for their opinions.
An Lan agreed that it looked beautiful. "It suits you perfectly. In fact, it makes you look even younger."
Wang Lu laughed. "Among all of us here, you're the only one who could pull that off." They all felt they looked older than Zhang Yuxi.
An Lan then asked Lin Feng for his opinion. He thought it looked quite nice, and Xiao Bao, the little girl in his arms, chirped, "Mommy is super pretty!"
With everyone in agreement, Zhang Yuxi made her decision. "Alright, please wrap it up for me!"
Zhang Yuxi's decisiveness caught both the sales associate and Shan Ni completely by surprise. Shan Ni was secretly delighted. She definitely doesn't know the price, she thought, mentally urging the staff to wrap it up quickly. It'll be so much fun to watch the look on her face when she can't afford it.
Shan Ni then added, "Just buying a necklace is too plain! You should get matching earrings, a bracelet, the whole set!" She went on to recommend several other pieces, making Zhang Yuxi wonder if she was getting a commission.
Lin Feng came over, still holding Xiao Bao. Zhang Yuxi was trying to decide on a pair of earrings. "Xiao Bao, help Mommy choose!"
A child's logic was simple: why choose when you can have them all? Zhang Yuxi decided to listen to Xiao Bao. She would take them all!
As a vice principal, Zhang Yuxi's personal style was always minimalist, so she wasn't accustomed to wearing a lot of jewelry. At home, her collection mostly consisted of simple earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. For other accessories, she had plenty of brooches and hairpins.
"Alright, that's everything!"
An Lan and Wang Lu had also each picked out a necklace—one with blue sapphire diamonds and the other with purple diamonds. In terms of quality, Wang Lu's was slightly better and naturally more expensive.
Shan Ni had secretly asked a clerk about the price. Zhang Yuxi's total came to 6,530,000, with the pink diamond necklace alone accounting for over five million. She stood to the side, eagerly awaiting Zhang Yuxi's moment of humiliation at the register.
But Zhang Yuxi simply took out a Black Gold Card. "Ring me up," she said, then pointed to An Lan and Wang Lu's selections. "Put theirs on my card, too."
An Lan and Wang Lu immediately objected, both pulling out their own bank cards. "Don't listen to her! We'll pay separately," An Lan insisted, then turned to Zhang Yuxi with a grin. "Too late to start spoiling me now!"
It was said that the pinnacle of friendship between men was wanting to be the other's father. For women, it was waiting for one of them to become a sugar mama and support the rest. In the past, whenever the sisters shopped together, they never split the bill, always figuring that whoever got rich first would continue to take care of the others.
Shan Ni's smile froze on her face. She truly hadn't expected Zhang Yuxi to have the money to pay for it all.
Xiao Bao gestured for her mother to put on the new earrings. "Mommy pretty! I want Mommy to be pretty!"
Zhang Yuxi obliged, swapping out her earrings. "Okay, Mommy's wearing them now. Do I look good?"
Xiao Bao then demanded to be held, but Zhang Yuxi initially refused. It was no joke; though the little one was only a year old, she was so heavy that Zhang Yuxi could barely lift her. Seeing Xiao Bao's unhappy face, Zhang Yuxi quickly relented and picked her up. My goodness, she feels even heavier now.
"Come on, let's go check out some other stores!"
Shan Ni trailed behind them, feeling dejected. Could I have been mistaken? Is Zhang Yuxi's family actually rich?
After walking a few steps, Zhang Yuxi handed Xiao Bao back to Lin Feng.
An Lan loved to shop, with a particular fondness for handbags. However, after she had her son, practicality took over. She had to carry so many things—bottles, diapers, a change of clothes—that she simply switched to using a practical and affordable backpack. Once her son started elementary school, her bag became a veritable treasure chest, filled with pencils, erasers, homework books, jackets, and more. She could have kept using her older luxury bags, but the styles felt dated. To save money, she'd limited herself to buying just two new ones a year. But since today was all about shopping, why not buy a few more?
When they finally emerged from the handbag store, An Lan had bought five new bags and Wang Lu had bought one. Zhang Yuxi hadn't bought any.
An Lan was grinning from ear to ear. "If we find any more good ones, I'm buying more!" Seeing Zhang Yuxi empty-handed, she asked, "Yuxi, why didn't you get one?"
Zhang Yuxi smiled faintly. "I'll just take your hand-me-downs."
An Lan was stunned. "Damn, you're ruthless!" she exclaimed. "Damn it, your family is loaded, and you still want hand-me-downs? You're so cheap!" Then she called out to Lin Feng, "Director Lin, doesn't this bother you?"
Zhang Yuxi chuckled. "You just bought all these new bags. You're definitely not going to use your old ones anymore, so you might as well just give them to me."
An Lan's eyes widened. "I'd rather sell them for pennies than give them to you!"
But a second later, a sly glint appeared in her eyes and she giggled. "Just kidding! If you don't mind that they're used, you can have them all! After all, out with the old, in with the new!"
That way, I'll have another excuse to buy even more bags! Now that her family's financial situation was so much better than before, buying new bags was no stress at all.
Zhang Yuxi just gave her a look that said, "I knew you were going to say that." After all these years as best friends, how could I not know how she thinks?
She didn't have a strong desire for designer bags; as long as the quality was good and the style was decent, she was happy.
