「Two hours later.」
Zhang Yuxi finished her class and rode her electric scooter back to the pedestrian street. Seeing her furious expression, Lin Feng poured her a glass of water.
"What's wrong? Did a student make you angry?"
Zhang Yuxi nodded, then glanced around the break room, noticing the babies were gone. "Where are the babies?"
"Mom took them out shopping," he replied.
Hearing this, Zhang Yuxi quickly called Zhao Lizhen. "Mom, where are you? I'm done with my class, so please hurry back."
Lin Feng looked at her, his expression full of admiration. Way to go, honey! He'd been wanting to make that call himself!
Before long, Zhao Lizhen and the others returned, pushing the strollers.
Zhang Yuxi washed her hands, then picked up the fourth baby, ready to nurse him. While feeding him, she turned to Zhou Cuilan and asked, "Mom, where would you like to eat tonight?"
Although Zhao Lizhen was right beside her, she felt it was safer to ask Zhou Cuilan.
Zhou Cuilan smiled. "It's all the same to us. You young people can decide, and we'll go wherever you choose."
Zhao Lizhen suggested, "Why don't we just eat at home? We have plenty of leftovers from lunch, and Lin Feng is an excellent cook."
Zhou Cuilan had been thinking the same thing, but with so many guests present, she was too embarrassed to bring it up. After all, in this day and age, taking guests out to a restaurant seemed to have become the standard.
Zhou Cuilan nodded, then looked toward Lin Daan and Lin Dahu.
Lin Daan smiled. "I don't really like eating out anymore. The food isn't very sanitary."
Lin Dahu had no objection either. "I'm fine with that. I've long grown tired of the oily, spicy food they serve at restaurants."
The two aunts also chimed in, "That's right! I don't think restaurant food is nearly as good as Lin Feng's cooking. Let's just eat at home."
Seeing that everyone had unanimously decided to eat at home, Lin Feng called Sun Rou.
"Lin Feng! I'm taking Chuan Chuan to McDonald's, so we won't be coming back to eat. Don't wait for us."
"Okay, got it!"
Sun Rou then handed the phone to her son. "Chuan Chuan, say goodbye to Uncle."
With his mouth full, Chuan Chuan obediently said, "Goodbye, Uncle."
A warm smile spread across Lin Feng's face. "Goodbye, Chuan Chuan!"
Next, Lin Feng called Lin Jiajun. His family of three was at the Changlong Zoo. It would be a while before they could get back, so they would just eat out.
Lin Feng then called An Lan's family. An Lan couldn't make it to dinner either because her parents had dragged her along to visit friends. On the surface, they were just visiting friends, but in reality, her parents had set her up on a blind date, so she wouldn't be back tonight.
"Ugh, this is so annoying," An Lan complained. "Lin Feng, could you please tell my parents to just go home for dinner?"
"Uh, about that..." Lin Feng felt awkward and quickly found an excuse to hang up.
Was she kidding? An Lan's parents were desperate for her to get married as soon as possible! If he ruined their big chance, how could he face them?
"Alright, let's head back and eat," Lin Feng announced after finishing his calls.
The babies had all been fed, and Zhao Lizhen and Zhou Cuilan were each pushing a stroller. By the time they got home and ate, it would be around seven or eight.
Zhang Yuxi had arrived on her electric scooter. The house was a bit crowded lately, so Lin Feng had been using the BMW to drive their guests around.
"I'll ride the scooter back. You all can take the car," she said.
But then, Zhang Fuyong suddenly stood up. "I'll ride the scooter and give your mother a lift."
Zhao Lizhen was completely taken aback. "Are you serious?"
Zhang Fuyong chuckled. "Hey, it's been decades since I've ridden one of these. How about I take you for a spin? We can reminisce about our fleeting youth."
Hearing this, Zhao Lizhen's heart skipped a beat. That old coot. He still knew how to make a scene!
Zhang Yuxi, however, looked a little worried.
"Don't worry, your dad used to be an amazing rider," Zhao Lizhen reassured her. "Back in his youth, he was the Racing Prince of Modu! How else do you think I fell for him?"
Hearing her mother's words, Zhang Yuxi didn't know whether to laugh or cry, feeling powerless against them.
The couple put on their helmets and got on the electric scooter.
Zhang Fuyong turned to Lin Feng and the others. "You guys go on ahead. I'll follow right behind you."
Zhao Lizhen patted her husband's shoulder, signaling that he could start.
"Don't rush me! Let me get the feel of it," he said. "This is the brake, this is the horn..."
Watching Zhang Fuyong, Zhao Lizhen was suddenly struck by a bad feeling. She couldn't help but ask, "Do you actually know how to ride this thing?"
How dare she question him? The Racing Prince of Modu?
Zhang Fuyong snorted. "Just watch me!"
The moment the words left his mouth, he twisted the throttle, and the scooter shot forward with a jolt. Startled, Zhao Lizhen quickly threw her arms around her husband's waist. "What are you doing?"
"I was just testing the scooter's acceleration," Zhang Fuyong retorted stubbornly. "Forgot to warn you."
Zhao Lizhen was speechless. The only tough thing about this man was his mouth!
Just then, the scooter lurched forward again. Their helmets crashed heavily into each other. Growing annoyed, Zhao Lizhen prepared to get off.
"Sit tight! We're about to hit the road."
Adjusting her helmet, Zhao Lizhen silently pulled her foot back onto the scooter. "I'm warning you, if you do that one more time, I'm getting off!"
"Relax, I was just testing the speed."
That line... Why did it sound so familiar?
After a few more jerky starts, Zhang Fuyong finally managed to get the scooter moving down the road. But Zhao Lizhen was on pins and needles, muttering constantly under her breath.
"Be careful, there's a car up ahead..."
Zhang Fuyong, however, seemed to have been transported back to his youth and couldn't help humming a song. He felt exceptionally cheerful! The speed, however, was nothing to brag about.
"Can you go any faster? People on rental bikes are overtaking us."
"Look, another one just passed."
"We might as well walk! We'd be faster than you on this thing!"
"Stop nagging and sit tight," Zhang Fuyong glared at Zhao Lizhen. With that, he twisted the throttle, intending to speed up. But the sound of the wind whooshing past his ears scared him, and he slowed down again.
Zhao Lizhen fell silent. She was so frustrated she could spit blood.
