My College Teacher is My Children's Mom

Chapter 96 Death Issue

Lin Feng opened the suitcase and took out all the babies' belongings. Of course, this included Fei Fei's food bowl and cat food.

As soon as they arrived home, Fei Fei ran into the living room to keep the babies company. Lin Feng went into the kitchen to prepare some baby food. Most of the dishes were already on the table. Outside on the balcony hung the sausages and cured meats that had been prepared for the New Year.

Zhou Cuilan served the last dish and asked, "Where's Yu Xi?"

"She's changing."

"Oh, right. Grab one of my coats for her to wear so she doesn't get her own clothes dirty."

"Which one?"

"The red, cotton-padded one."

Lin Feng found a thick, red, cotton-padded jacket in the closet and handed it to Zhang Yuxi. "Mom said you should wear this at home. It's warm."

Zhang Yuxi changed into the red jacket, took a satisfied look in the mirror, and then followed Lin Feng into the living room. Lin Feng brought over the bowl of baby food and began feeding the infants. Zhang Yuxi stood there, unsure of what to do, so she simply moved closer to him.

Zhou Cuilan came out carrying the final dish. "You two go ahead and eat. I'll feed my grandbabies."

Lin Feng didn't stand on ceremony. "Mom, why don't you feed the two oldest first? The younger two can go last."

"Why?"

"The younger two are fussy eaters!"

"Oh, I see. You two go eat before your dinner gets cold."

Lin Dashan added, "Come on, you two. Your mother has it under control."

Lin Jie also chimed in, "Feng, Yuxi, come and eat."

Lin Feng set down the baby food and said to Zhang Yuxi, "Let's go."

Zhang Yuxi nodded and obediently followed him.

That night's dinner spread was lavish. In addition to braised pork knuckles, sweet and sour ribs, and braised carp, there were also several cold dishes.

Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi sat down. Noticing his daughter-in-law's hesitance, Lin Dashan reassured her, "Yu Xi, just make yourself at home. Don't be a stranger."

Zhang Yuxi smiled. "Okay, Dad."

MEOW…

Just then, the sound of a cat came from the living room.

Zhou Cuilan asked, "Is the cat well-behaved? It won't hurt the babies, will it?"

"Mom, don't worry!" Lin Feng called back from the dining room. "Fei Fei is very good-natured, and I've already had her vaccinated!"

Zhou Cuilan had been about to nag him about keeping a cat, but she thought better of it and held her tongue. Young people these days don't like it when their parents nag. They all seem to enjoy keeping cats and dogs. Maybe it's just a trait of this generation. While feeding the babies, she kept a close eye on Fei Fei's movements. The cat was crouched nearby, watching the four infants intently, more like a loyal guard dog than a feline.

At the dining table, Lin Dashan overheard the mother-son exchange and chimed in, "That cat seems to understand people. When I was watching TV in the living room earlier, it stayed with the babies the entire time, never leaving their side. It's not afraid of strangers, either. It's as if it knows we won't harm it."

Lin Feng shared a few funny stories about Fei Fei with his father, and both Lin Dashan and Lin Jie listened with great interest. Zhang Yuxi ate quietly, an inexplicable emotion stirring in her heart.

Next year, I should go back to my parents' for the holiday.

When Lin Dashan heard that his son had partnered with An Lan to open a restaurant that was bringing in 200,000 yuan a day, he was incredibly pleased. He was now completely reassured about Lin Feng's future.

Lin Jie finished his meal quickly and stood up. "You guys take your time. I'm going to check on the babies."

Lin Dashan smiled. "Go on, but be careful." He then turned to Lin Feng. "Your great-aunt and your second and third uncles heard you and Yu Xi were back. They said they'll come over for a meal one of these days, as an early reunion dinner."

"Alright."

They had just finished eating when Zhou Cuilan's voice came from the other room. "Oh my, An An, why are you eating so slowly? The food's getting cold. I'll go heat it up."

Lin Dashan got up and went into the living room to play with his grandchildren, while Zhang Yuxi started to help Lin Feng clear the table.

Lin Jie offered, "Bro, Yuxi, I'll get it!"

Zhang Yuxi shook her head. "It's okay, I can do it."

"Honey, why don't you watch the kids? I'll take care of this," Lin Feng said. After being together for so long, the couple had a natural understanding.

"Alright, then. Thanks, honey. You too, Jie."

The two brothers washed the dishes in the kitchen, the atmosphere quiet. Lin Feng was the first to break the silence. "How were your exams?"

Lin Jie managed a small smile. "They were okay."

"Don't put too much pressure on yourself," Lin Feng comforted him. "The college entrance exams aren't everything, and your grades don't define your future."

Lin Jie nodded. "Mm."

Lin Feng continued, "Your big brother has a little money now. Even if you don't get into a university, I can pay for you to study abroad."

"Brother!" At the word "brother," Lin Jie's voice caught in his throat. He had never expected Lin Feng to be so good to him. When they were kids, their parents had always favored Lin Feng, which made Lin Jie feel resentful. He was their biological son, after all, and he had often clashed with Lin Feng because of it. But he'd never imagined that Lin Feng held no grudge against him at all.

"Brother, I'm sorry," Lin Jie said, his voice thick with emotion. "I was immature back then, and I always picked fights with you…"

Lin Feng smiled. "I never let it bother me. I'm not mad at you."

Lin Jie forced a faint smile in return. "Brother, I actually want to get into Qinghua University! But with my current grades, that's just a pipe dream. Are you going to laugh at me?"

Lin Feng's voice was earnest. "Why would I laugh at you? It's a good thing to have a dream."

Lin Jie gave a silly smile.

"Work hard for it! No matter what you do, your brother will support you!"

Hearing this, Lin Jie's eyes reddened completely.

As the two brothers chatted in the kitchen, Zhou Cuilan couldn't help but eavesdrop from just outside the door. She'd completely forgotten her daughter-in-law was still in the house!

Lin Dashan, seeing this, couldn't take it anymore and shot his wife a warning glare. Only then did Zhou Cuilan remember. Oh, right! My daughter-in-law is still here! She awkwardly returned to the living room.

Zhang Yuxi pretended not to notice and continued cooing to the babies.

It was almost ten o'clock, and the babies were getting sleepy. They looked around the room, and Zhou Cuilan asked with a gentle smile, "Are you looking for Grandma?"

"No, they're looking for Lin Feng," Zhang Yuxi said, then called out, "Honey, the babies are looking for you."

"Alright, I'm coming." Lin Feng wiped his hands and walked out of the kitchen.

The babies broke into mischievous grins the moment they saw him.

Zhou Cuilan chuckled. "Hurry and take the kids to bed. It's getting late."

"Okay! Mom, Dad, Jie, we're off to bed."

"Well, goodnight then," Zhang Yuxi added.

In the unfamiliar environment, the babies were restless and couldn't sleep soundly, perhaps unsettled by the new bed or the room itself.

"Honey, you get some sleep. I'll watch the babies," Lin Feng offered. "I slept in the RV earlier, so I'm not tired yet."

Zhang Yuxi patted the spot next to her on the bed. "Honey, come here a second. I want to ask you something."

Seeing her expression, Lin Feng broke into a suggestive smile. "Honey, do you know what you look like right now?"

"What?"

"Wearing that big, flowery jacket and telling me to 'come here.'"

Zhang Yuxi playfully swatted him and pouted. "I was trying to ask you a serious question. Is your first love from Meicheng too?"

Lin Feng's expression was one of helplessness. "Yeah, why?" He couldn't believe this dreaded question had finally been aimed at him.

"Hmph, I knew it." Zhang Yuxi pouted. "You're so handsome. I bet you had tons of girls chasing you in high school, right?"

"Honey, you're imagining things," Lin Feng said, brushing a stray hair from her face. "Actually, not that many... just a dozen or so."

Lin Feng teased before leaning in, using a kiss to stop any further questions.
