Inside the Oasis Battleship, Lin Feng recalls the underground shelter from back in the day.
Pipes of varying sizes and complex wiring, many of them already rusted in parts; cramped, low-ceiling corridors, impossible to discern direction without signs.
Like the interior of an old retired warship.
There's also a dull moldy smell, like an old room that's been unventilated for ages.
Lin Feng holds his breath, following behind Father Su An, winding through the narrow corridors for five or six minutes, covering dozens of meters, finally reaching the upper layer of the battleship.
Opening a large white-painted door, the true residential area of the Upper Class within the Oasis is unveiled before Lin Feng's eyes.
Suddenly, everything becomes clear.
The scent of civilization rushes forth.
Above is a dome assembled from hexagonal semi-transparent glass, capable of reflecting most of the light and heat, making the residential area unusually comfortable in temperature.
In addition to the release of cool air conditioning, the temperature in the Oasis Upper District is only about twenty-four to twenty-five degrees, extraordinarily refreshing.
Lin Feng's gaze shifts from the gigantic dome above to the tranquil and pleasant abode below.
Looking around, along a straight main road lined on both sides are uniformly shaped three-story villas, most still in modern minimalist decor.
The large glass of floor-to-ceiling windows reflects sunlight.
The living environment of the Upper Class is as relaxed and pleasant as the twenty-first century during the Old Earth era.
Lin Feng sees children playing soccer and young males and females chatting leisurely while drinking coffee by the roadside.
They are dressed appropriately, faces full of smiles.
Just like modern people from the Old Earth era.
At the end of the four-meter wide street, near the battleship's bow, stands a ten-meter high Great Cathedral.
A golden manhole cover lies atop the cathedral spire.
The Teaching Emblem glimmers in the sunlight, reminding Lin Feng of the chapel at Holy Spring Village, whose silver emblem clearly does not compare in advancement and nobility to this one.
The chapel in the Oasis is also far more magnificent and solemn than the village chapels carried by heavy trucks, with its glass even painted with gold lacquer.
Lin Feng then looks back towards the battleship's stern, where atop a tall building is a garden platform filled with flora and a giant lens set at an incline.
From start to finish, the entire upper world of the Oasis is shrouded under a sun-reflecting glass dome, like an isolated paradise.
Living within are the Upper Class, while below the Oasis, the Deserters continue to struggle for survival in the Wasteland. Though all are human, they've evolved into two different species of worlds.
These over two thousand Upper Class continually draw nutrition from the nearly twenty thousand Permanent Residents below Oasis Town.
Among them are eight thousand Upper Servants and over ten thousand Permanent Residents stationed in the battleship, all providing and serving the Upper Class.
Offering them such a comfortable living environment and endless food and drink.
If one were to average the lifestyle of the two, Lin Feng estimates Oasis Town could at least support double the number of survivors.
Raising the population from over twenty thousand to fifty thousand.
And still at the level of eating and drinking their fill.
It's unfortunate this is almost an impossible feat.
Even if the upper echelon disappeared entirely, resources distributed evenly, it would eventually lead to the formation of a new Upper People Group, and the current model of concentrated supply would continue.
At this moment, Lin Feng follows the Priest, walking down a small path on the right side of the Upper District.
Though avoiding the crowds on the main road, many curious eyes still observe the unfamiliar man behind the Priest.
Partly because it's rare for a disheveled Deserter to directly enter the Upper District of the Oasis, and partly because of the man's handsome appearance.
Though the Upper Class live in privileged environments, with fair, blemish-free skin, Lin Feng's foundation surpasses theirs greatly.
Coupled with his golden wheat complexion, it possesses a rough exotic beauty.
Initially, only children pursued and watched, eventually even adults, especially women, turned their eyes towards the commotion.
"Don't mind their gaze, they're just curious about the unfamiliar."
Father Su An spoke casually, quickening his pace.
Lin Feng lowered his head and followed closely.
Soon they traversed through a narrow path below, entering the church district below the cathedral.
Su An led Lin Feng inside a bathhouse, where a grey-robed Cultivator handed Lin Feng a set of white clothing.
"Clean yourself thoroughly, when you meet Lord Bishop later, you can't bring the smell of meat."
Lin Feng chuckled, nodded, and entered the bathhouse.
The small bathhouse had the same layout as before, with individual stalls containing benches, showerheads, and toiletries.
After selecting a stall at random, Lin Feng turned on the faucet, and the thirty-degree lukewarm water poured over him.
It's free water anyway, a waste not to use it.
Reflecting on the luxury of life in the Oasis's upper layer, Lin Feng began using shampoo to clean the dusty, crusted scalp. Afterward, using a bath ball, he lathered soap and foam to scrub off the accumulated layers of dead skin.
After about twenty minutes, Lin Feng finished cleaning and donned the white robe, emerging from the shower room refreshed.
At this moment, Father Su An had already left ahead, leaving behind a grey-robed Cultivator to guide Lin Feng:
"Just leave your old clothes with me, please follow me, Mr. Lin, the Priest and Lord Bishop have been waiting in the cathedral for some time."
Lin Feng nodded:
"Let's set off quickly."
One after the other, they traversed the church district, soon side-entering the Great Cathedral.
Though the exterior of the cathedral was magnificent and solemn, the interior decor remained simple, walls painted only with white putty, yet every place Lin Feng visited was exceptionally clean, spotless.
This was the most sacred place of the Church.
Soon, Lin Feng followed the grey-robed Cultivator to a secret room at the back of the cathedral.
Unlike Lin Feng's imagined church audience, his first meeting with the most powerful and influential person within Oasis Town was in a windowless secret room.
After the grey-robed Cultivator knocked on the door for Lin Feng, he swiftly left the place.
A few seconds later, the door slowly opened.
Father Su An stood behind the door, nodding:
"Come in, Lord Bishop has some questions for you."
Lin Feng swallowed his saliva, suppressing the nervousness and excitement in his heart, and walked inside.
The airtight small room contained a three-meter wide original wooden table and densely packed books stacked on three sides of bookshelves.
At the moment, an elderly man slightly familiar to Lin Feng sat before the wooden table, wearing glasses and flipping through an ancient text.
Seeing Lin Feng, the latter revealed a faint smile:
"I've heard Su An speak of you."
"A smart, promising young man. What are your views on Nongzhuang Village and the Li Family?"
Lin Feng's heart skipped a beat, clearly not expecting such an opening for his first audience.
And the question from Lord Bishop was evidently probing Lin Feng's character.
Luckily, before coming, he'd already conducted a preliminary analysis of the situation, not completely in the dark.
After pondering for a moment, Lin Feng revealed his view:
"The Li Family holds Oasis Town's food supply, also a lifeline of the Oasis, while Enhanced Meat and Evolutionary Meat aren't just daily staples for Oasis residents. The Life Source Material within Rock-Horned Horses is the foundation for Evolvers to be born and continue getting stronger."
"So, gradually, Nongzhuang Village will surely use this to slowly control the other two villages, including suppressing the Hunting Wilderness Guild of Fifth Village."
"While additionally infiltrating the Oasis Upper District."
"This poses the greatest threat to the Church, with weak foundations. On the surface, it seems the Three Major Clans each go their way, but behind the scenes, the three have already become one, and coupled with the weak Guild, as far as Nongzhuang Village and the Li Family are concerned, just taking down the Church and filling the last piece of the puzzle for water source..."
"And thereby completely and thoroughly controlling Oasis Town!"
The elder nodded, expressing satisfaction:
"Though Holy Spring Sect has strict screening restrictions on those who join, in extraordinary times, extraordinary measures must be taken."
"You now have two choices..."
"One is to continue improving Horse Taming Skill, assist the Church, eliminate the Li Family, and upon becoming an Upper Class in the Oasis, take over Nongzhuang Village, ensuring stable meat supply."
"The second choice still requires improving Horse Taming Skill, but after handing it over to the Church, in return, we will grant you a portion of Leader Level Rock-Horned Horse's Evolutionary Meat."
