The Winter Wizard: Integration [Dark Fantasy | LitRPG]

Chapter 75: Frostforger

Ethan slowly opened his eyes, the feeling of perpetual heaviness vanished. He took a deep breath and the mana that was suppressed inside of his body burst free for a moment, the guardian in front of him didn't even react. Slowly he floated to the ground and landed next to Lorena who was watching with interest. She had stopped kneeling, Ethan presumed during the time when he was shown the memories of the Elysarion.

All of them stood there in awkward silence for a moment before the beast of myth spoke, his voice ringing in all of their minds simultaneously, the sudden feeling of benevolence instead of getting suppressed made Ethan sigh in relaxation.

I think it's time to discuss the imminent future, you came here with a warning about an evil that befell this jungle. This evil, I know of it and as you know I already destroyed one of their mediocre plans which could have worked if it wasn't such a bad attempt. What attacks us is a different thing, it's no man or animal. No elemental or stray soul. It's an amalgamation of evil spirits that form one being. What worries me is that I can't discern what their actual plan is with these attacks, but there is one thing for certain. Their attempts all failed, either thanks to you or the magic that is laying dormant in this mountain. You can now ask me questions and I will answer them truthfully, I can feel them burning under your skin little ones.

Lorena and Ethan stood there, looking at each other before Ethan gave her a nod. He still had the memories of the guardian fresh in his mind and was enthralled with their world and the destruction that was used to annihilate most of it. There was power on another level on display and it fascinated him even as it occurred during a tragedy, taking a step back he gestured for Lorena to go ahead.

She stepped forward, her back straight as she approached the guardian in a few quick steps, her eyes wandering over its massive body before she spoke. Why she could have asked any kind of question to a being that was hundreds or even thousands of years old her main concern was still the well being of their people.

"Guardian, what can we do to fight these evil spirits? Is there a way to destroy them permanently or banish them? While we're strong we can't fight things like these on our own." She looked embarrassed, admitting that her people weren't able to protect themselves alone, relying on the guardian for that.

My child there is nothing to fear because you brought along all the help we need, because he is able to destroy this creature with his help. But he has to make a decision, it could make him stronger or cripple him. The decision is his to make, I ask you to protect the mountain while Ethan and I discuss this threat.

Lorena bowed down low and gave Ethan one sad look before she quickly moved away, ready to do as the guardian told her. Ethan stepped forward and raised an eyebrow, the guardian leaned down and touched him with his massive beak and second later they stood on a different mountain again, this time there was no attack on this world.

The guardian also vanished, replaced by a man in a white suit. White feathers covered his head and his face showed signs of aging, making him look around forty years old give or take. But his impressive physique showed no signs of weakness. The guardian crossed his arms and sighed.

"You're a dumbass young one."

One sentence and Ethan felt a lot of different things, he felt insulted, angry, confused and angry again.

"What?! Where did that come from you overgrown chicken!" he yelled, the comfortable cold that surrounded him was gone in this place and bottled up emotions threatened to boil over.

"I said you're dumb, for wasting your second class on something so mediocre, there are hundreds of classes better suited for you. After all, your primary class focuses on control. The guardian created a staff with his ice magic and twirled it in his hand. "The only reason you even managed to come this far was the fact that the system is in place and you're still in the tutorial. Out there in the real world, you are useless because there is no synergy."

The guardian came closer, looming over Ethan like a wall made from ice, an unavoidable obstacle he had to overcome. "So what? Do subclasses fall from the sky now? I can't change it and my path is already determined. So what should I do huh?" His usually pale cheeks flushed with anger as he looked at the guardian who looked totally unconcerned, like an adult talking to an unruly child.

"Well of course you can change it, for you have the means to ask the system for it. I will even help you but promise me to think about the legacy you're carrying, remember you need to decide if you want to walk this path in the future. Now, let me tell you about a class more…suitable for you."

He pushed Ethan down who suddenly found himself sitting on a chair made from ice. The guardian turned his back to him and looked over the mountains, he waited a while for Ethan to cool down before he spoke. "Autumn, Winter's closest companion is focused on curses, the withering of all and the transition between warm summer and cold winter. Curses are a discipline that is frowned upon but they have their places, especially in dark mages, assassins and other unsavory types. Spring is a time of rejuvenation, the disciples of spring are strong healers, druids and usually aligned with the good, if you want to think in the terms of good and bad that is. Summer is volatile, it's dominant, demanding, impulsive. It's a time of warmth, fire, lava, brimstone. Summer brings mages focused destruction and big attacks. Melee fighters imbued their weapon with flame or other things related to it.

Then there is winter, the standstill, the absence of warmth and life, when only the elements rule. As you already know winter is perfect for mages like you, crowd control as some call it. Some decide to conjure blizzard and storm, covering massive distances. But I think there is another way for you, you see, your special ice variant gives us a unique opportunity, one that will benefit you back on your home planet."

The guardian turned around and looked at Ethan. A smile on his face. "For I will help you gain an army that can't die Ethan, the Wizard of Glacial Chains. There are many classes that originate in the house of Winter…" he gently placed a hand on Ethan's forehead and some weird feeling penetrated Ethan's thoughts, searching for something. After a while the feeling aligned and a system message appeared in his vision.

Ethan read the messages from the system and felt his body change, as skill got ripped from body and replaced by others melting into him, it felt like ice cold water ran down his spine. He shivered and slowly the world started to turn black as he passed out in this world built from memories. Jeriel stood over him, a smile on his face. He knew this was the right path for Ethan, patiently he would wait for the progenitor to wake up again. Born anew with the heavenly favour he received all that time ago.
