The Five Poison Heavenly King, Lie Baduo, originally came from a barbarian clan in the great mountains. Since birth, he had scales growing in reverse direction and a mouth full of sharp fangs, along with immense strength enough to tear tigers and panthers apart with his bare hands.
At about thirteen, he had a freak encounter where he mistakenly consumed the gallbladder of a poisonous python and an Immortal Herb. On the brink of death, he miraculously transformed and became a handsome young man.
Later, he fell in love with the female Sword Immortal, Yun Luo Niang, who took him in and introduced him to her master, Wei Bagong. Initially, he learned a host of peripheral Immortal Laws from Wei Bagong. However, having developed marital problems and feeling mistreated by his mentor, he left in anger and became a disciple of Wei Bagong's rival, mastering various Demon Techniques and Evil Magic.
Lie Baduo had carefully calculated the day of disaster for Wei Bagong and made a sudden return, killing not only his master but also the entire family of Yun Luo Niang. However, he was thwarted at the last moment by a Spirit Talisman that Wei Bagong had left behind specifically for him.
Peripheral magic, easy to master and swift to yield results, can indeed be powerful, but such spells always come with various flaws.
Knowing well the weaknesses of his own magic, Wei Bagong had left the Spirit Talisman to counteract this ungrateful disciple, causing his True Qi to become disorderly, leading to a state of Demonic Deviation. Lie Baduo fled in a sorry state back to Bai Man Mountain, only to have his blood circulation halt abruptly, turning him into a zombie.
Sometime after, overwhelmed by grief and indignation, Yun Luo Niang also succumbed to Demonic Deviation and became rigid in her meditative posture. For many years, the couple engaged in numerous spiritual battles, with Yun Luo Niang barely holding on to her life with her master's Protective Dharma Treasure.
Years prior, it should have been the time for the Emei Sect to establish its power and flourish greatly, with disciples roaming freely. The 'Emei Seven Dwarfs' should have come to aid Yun Luo Niang in vanquishing Lie Baduo.
But as destiny would have it, the expected catastrophe did not arise. Lie Baduo managed to escape this misfortune, and his rigid body began to show signs of potential recovery.
Just as he was about to venture out and finish off Yun Luo Niang for good, she suddenly vanished, along with the Golden-eyed Fire Falcon she reared, and all the Spirit Grass she cultivated.
After much speculation, Lie Baduo arrived at a vague divination — it must have been Wei Bagong's reincarnation who had come, rescued Yun Luo Niang, and taken her away.
When his own fortunes later decline, Yun Luo Niang would return for her revenge!
This meant that he had avoided, but not truly survived the previous disaster — a future trial still awaited him, and it would be even more fierce than the last.
Lie Baduo made efforts to seek support from Grandmaster Ha Ha precisely to find a backer for this tribulation. Having heard that the Emei Sect possessed a millennium-old Lingzhi, intense greed welled up within him.
From the conversation with the Huo brothers, the understanding was that teaching him the Cultivation Technique to cure his Demonic Deviation was in exchange for his help in dealing with Huo Wuhai. After the event, the millennium-old Queen Mother Grass, Immortal Mushrooms, and Purple River Grass would all belong to the Huo brothers, leaving nothing for him.
He had haggled back and forth in the conversation, eventually causing the other party to reluctantly agree to share with him the three-thousand-year-old Immortal Mushrooms.
But how could this satisfy him? He wanted all three Immortal Herbs!
On hearing Zhi Tong mention the Emei Sect's millennium-old Ganoderma Immortals, he formed a plan and told the Huo brothers, "I have long admired the Taiyin Hunyuan Ancestor of the Wutai Sect but regret not having the opportunity to meet him. Now that his direct grand-disciple has come seeking my help, I cannot ignore this; moreover, Yuan Gui still owes the favor. Wait here for a few days. Let me first avenge Zhi Tong, then I will accompany you to find Huo Wuhai."
He didn't ask the Huo brothers for help; instead, they themselves felt that they should be involved in the matter.
Grandmaster Ha Ha had had a long-standing grudge with the Emei Sect that dated back to when Master Changmei first entered the Dao. Although there was no great enmity, a series of small grievances persisted. Otherwise, he would not have taken Miedu Zi as a disciple, claiming to specifically irritate both Master Changmei, who had already ascended, and the remaining Emei disciples still on earth.
Xiao Yue became a disciple of Deng Yin behind Grandmaster Ha Ha's back. Not only did he not hold a grudge, but he even sent a broken bow to Deng Yin as a gesture. When the Emei Sect was established, he went to a distant mountain to cast spells, attempting to invert Emei Mountain, draw out the Earth Fire's magma, and completely destroy this foundation. However, he was punished by a combined effort of Bai Mei Zen Master and Tian Meng Zen Master, who beat him with a Zen Staff.
The Huo brothers were known for their recklessness. They were aware of the Blood Demon pressuring the Emei Sect and had previously only enjoyed the misfortune of others. Now that Lie Baduo intended to seek out the miseries of the Emei Sect, they naturally wanted to tag along.
Lie Baduo, too, was cunning. If he had asked the Huo brothers to join him in seizing the millennium-old Ganoderma Immortal, they would not have agreed, or they would have demanded a price.
But when he mentioned he was going on his own, the Huo brothers were eager to follow and reap the benefits.
Lie Baduo asked Zhi Tong to stay in the cave for a few more days, intent on fully recovering his body, then setting out with his Magical Treasure, along with twenty-five disciples, Zhi Tong, the Huo brothers, and a team of young men and women carrying ritual implements, totaling nearly fifty individuals, flying straight towards Emei Mountain.
Shi Feiyang had let Zhi Tong go last time, already anticipating this day. When he saw a lump of green Poison Mist miles away with a dozen people atop it rushing like the wind — among them Zhi Tong, the armless monk — he knew things had taken the right course.
He immediately ordered Leng Yun to gather everyone together and cast a spell to relay the news to the Taiyuan Five Mansions deep within the mountain's belly, informing the duty Elder of the powerful enemy approaching the Emei Sect.
If it were Shi Feiyang's true strength, defeating Lie Baduo and his crew would have been more than manageable, but as he could not reveal himself, he had to resort to Yue Yun's capabilities, which proved somewhat inadequate. Nonetheless, this was within his advance calculations.
Not long after, Lie Baduo and his people arrived atop Emei Mountain. This demon, both fierce and ruthless, made the opening move by launching his Colorful Cloud Immortal Miasma.
As soon as he released the Miasma, it enveloped the sky, spewing wildly, filling the valleys and ravines of the mountain. The multicolored haze covered the entirety of the Emei Sect within hundreds of miles!
Lie Baduo, worried that the millennium-old Lingzhi might escape and also eager to exert his prowess in magic once again after recovering his physical form, began with such a grand gesture.
Emei Mountain was shrouded in colorful Miasma, with billowing and swirling fumes of various colors containing deadly poison.
Disciples in the lower courtyard of the Emei Sect stood in the yard of Jade Emperor Temple, looking up to see even the Sun obscured. Surrounded by colorful clouds, the distant view became obscured.
Everyone was quite alarmed, having never witnessed such a spectacle before!
The poisonous fog kept encroaching upon the Jade Emperor Temple, and Shi Feiyang deployed the Ruyi Five Clouds Net outside the Jade Emperor Hall to block the miasma.
Then, the colorful clouds in the sky parted, revealing a platform formed by colorful cloud mists.
First to ascend the platform was a group of handsome boys and beautiful girls around the ages of fifteen or sixteen, each holding incense, silver lamps, censers, palace fans, and other items, lined up on both sides.
In the middle, floating in the air, was a red jade-like circular stool upon which sat a beautiful white-clothed youth—it was the Barbarian Ancestor of the Southern Border, the Five Poison Heavenly King, Lie Baduo!
Lie Baduo looked down from the heavens, and Zhi Tong beside him pointed with his left hand, "That one there is Yue Yun."
"I know of him!" Having cultivated for several hundred years, Lie Baduo had heard of Yue Yun even though he seldom visited Central Earth.
However, whether he recognized him or not, there wasn't much to say to the members of the Emei Sect. Seeing his Poison Mist blocked by the Ruyi Five Clouds Net above the Jade Emperor Temple, he sneered and with a flick of his hand, released his most prized Seven Evil Black Spirit God Sword.
This sword was originally formidable, refined from a fusion of the strengths of both righteous and evil.
Years ago, when the Green Robe Ancestor left, he dominated Bai Man Mountain alone, inheriting much of the Green Robe Ancestor's legacy, including his disciples and items from past Gu and spell refining. He had also purchased many materials from the Mingyu Immortal Market and upgraded this sword through sacrificial refinement. Its power had increased by more than tenfold from before!
With a point of his hand, the sword transformed into a pitch-black beam tens of yards long, crashing viciously onto the Ruyi Five Clouds Net.
Shi Feiyang's Protective Dharma Treasure had already suffered heavy damage, and he had not spent much effort to re-cultivate it. Now only a few thin wisps of colorful smoke remained, and when struck by Lie Baduo's full-force swing of the Demon Blade, it began violently fluctuating.
Shi Feiyang quickly released his Flying Sword, a streak of silver light intercepting the Demon Blade.
The sword and blade twisted together in the sky, like a black and white python, intertwining and rising and falling, clashing and sparking a great shower of Mars.
In terms of pure swordsmanship, Yue Yun was a notch above Lie Baduo. In this sword and blade struggle, Shi Feiyang quickly gained the upper hand.
Lie Baduo sneered, exhaled Primordial Qi from his mouth, and casually pointed. The blade light split into seven, turning into seven beams of black light.
In an instant, the duel went from one-on-one to a seven-on-one blitz. Shi Feyang's superior swordsmanship was useless, and even though Yue Yun's Flying Sword was of decent quality, it was still far inferior to the Seven Evil Black Spirit God Sword, and it was on the verge of being twisted and destroyed in moments!
Shi Feiyang hastily released the Golden and Jade Divine Blade, as dozens of golden and jade-colored blades flew out to counter the seven blades of light. They clashed and wrestled with the Demon Blade, grinding out ten thousand sparks!
Lie Baduo hadn't expected him to have such a Magical Treasure and was slightly taken aback.
He waved his robe, releasing millions of Dragon Locusts he had nurtured over the years.
Among the three Sect Hierarchs of the Southern Border, the Green Robe Ancestor possessed the Hundred Poison Golden Silkworm Gu, and Lie Baduo had Dragon Locusts, second only to the Hundred Poison Golden Silkworm Gu.
Another, the Red-haired Ancestor, had the Heavenly Demon Blood Transformation Divine Saber, while Lie Baduo possessed the Seven Evil Black Spirit God Sword, second only to the Heavenly Demon Blood Transformation Divine Saber.
He was essentially a fusion of the strengths of the other two Sect Hierarchs, yet a notch below. Over the years, as he had avoided one catastrophe, and having acquired many materials from the Mingyu Immortal Market to enhance his mana and upgrade his Magical Treasures, his strength had leaped forward tremendously.
His Dragon Locusts numbered in the millions, far exceeding the Green Robe Ancestor's Hundred Poison Golden Silkworm Gu of old. Although they were less powerful, they had their unique uses, covering the sky when released.
Each locust was over a foot long, golden-yellow in color, with sharp fangs, a pair of long pincers at the front, and their bodies wrapped in yellow fumes, with blood qi spewing from their mouths.
Normally, these Dragon Locusts were but a handful of dust, kept in his sleeve. When needed, he'd toss them out, and as he performed hand seals and incantations, infusing them with True Qi, the dust would rapidly grow into millions of locusts.
They swarmed and covered the already faltering Ruyi Five Clouds Net, spewing blood qi and attacking ferociously.
Shi Feiyang produced three Thunder Pearls with his hands.
"Five Fire Divine Thunder!" The Monk Zhi Tong blurted out in shock and resentment.
It turned out these were the Five Fire Divine Thunders given to him by his master, the Taiyin Hunyuan Ancestor. He had always been reluctant to use them, seldom bringing them out, and once used against enemies, they had always been invariably effective.
Only some days ago, at Qingyang Palace, when he used them against Shi Feiyang, he met successive defeats, almost blowing himself up, and his entire gourd was taken away. Now, his opponent was using it against his side.
Monk Zhi Tong knew the Five Fire Divine Thunder was refined using the Wutai Sect's Immortal Law, controllable at will, with explosions also managed by mental command. With a single thought, he could manipulate them, and outsiders wouldn't be able to use them at all!
He tried making hand seals to take back the Thunder Pearls but to no avail. He then rashly tried to detonate the Thunder Pearls hanging at Shi Feiyang's waist, hoping to obliterate Shi Feiyang along with the entire Jade Emperor Temple.
After repeatedly making hand seals and casting, none of the Thunder Pearls responded; they completely ignored his control.
Unknown to him, the Dharma Collection of the Wutai Sect was now compiled and revised by Shi Feiyang himself. Shi Feiyang understood the refinement process of the Five Fire Divine Thunder even better than he did. Over these days, he had already re-refined every Thunder Pearl. There was no way they could be wrested back!
